Welcome Jacob Blight

I haven't had the chance to watch him play, but from observers he has been mentioned as slow. I take it he's a poor man's Brian Harris (Lake) type? If so you'd have to use a zone defence to help aid his deficiencies I think.
As a measure of speed I would equate getting to contests. On short viewing he seems elite at marking (pack & intercept) which to me says his speed is OK. Miller is quick but is vulnerable against leading forwards,so speed is also quick of mind. Happy for him to debut but is Carlton the best option for his development and confidence?

Can any of the VFL watchers comment on his speed?

For such a large guy will he get shown up at AFL level with the speed off the mark of the large forwards he will be playing on?
For a KPD, his speed is as good as Astbury but has better mobility.

Love the idea of bringing Malcom in for the Blues , he’s not a lightly framed 19 year old , he’s a beast and what a great opportunity to get a taste late on a Sunday arvo .

I’d definitely rather he line up beside our best key defender when he debuts , however if Yze thinks Balta is with trying forward again , then Blight back will help that theory
Would be quite the initiation!

Yeah, you'd think Cartoon would be the worst for a debutant KPD's confidence given they probably have the best KPF in the league.

I would be amazed if he played on Curnow or McKay and did well in his first game.
I suppose we are tanking so its a Free hit.

Closing speed for a key back is not as crucial as it once was when the full forwards had open space to lead into. Now it's pretty congested with defensive zones and stuff. Body positioning, strength and reading the flight are much more important for a key back. How quick are Lever, Sicily and Weitering?

This.

In fact, I would argue that reading of the play is just as, if not more important than pure speed.

McGovern is a master at this. That's the template that Blight should use.

Use Miller on the faster forwards.

Yep the good interceptors read the play upfield and get into position early. The reason they take so many uncontested marks is because the forwards are mostly busy making leads and running to where they want the ball to go whereas the good key defenders will go where the ball actually ends up going once the pressure upfield us applied.

Not sure if he's any good but he has the complete key position player's rig. Great specimen

Going by how Yze has gone so far, he prob won’t get a game until the last quarter, of the last game of the season. 👍
