Week 2 Finals: Taking the Long Route

How sensitive we have all become.

Ginnivan said nothing about Port.

Wouldn't you want your players to be confidently saying they could get to a preliminary final against the Swans?

What has happened to footy banter? We are sucked in by thought police media beat ups.

These guys have injected life and excitement into a dead season and when they lose a final by few points the pecking party begins.
Banter is between fans. Why was the season “dead”?

Brett Daniels, you cost your team the game. Gives away a 50 which results in a goal, then GWS gets a free on the edge of the goal square a certain goal but selfish Daniels decides to take the advantage and misses an off-the-ground kick from 2 meters out. Instead of going back out to a 25-point lead, they are only in front by 19 points.
The Lions kick the next goal, (2 goal turn around) and the lions gain momentum and go on to kick the next 3 to win the game.
He had no pressure. Could have picked it up and kicked it through.

True to form, good of the AFL to be looking out for grassroots footy once again by scheduling next weekend's MCG prelim to overlap with the many grand finals happening around the suburbs and regions.
The clubs hosting these showpiece games need as much patronage as possible to generate some cash, and the leagues need the money and traffic as well.

But those at League HQ, don't forget to tell us how much the AFL cares about 'the game' by travelling out to an Old Scotch match in the affluent, leafy inner-east once a year before sprouting how great a shape the whole grassroots product is in.

Deadset couldn't make this *smile* up.

Really wanted the Giants to get through but fade-outs are signs they are not ready or not good enough.

We already know the Bears are flaky whingers so the Caaants will account for them.

Down to Sydney then. And they are suspect in the key posts.

FMD

Geelong-Collingwood-Geelong for the last three flags is nightmarish.

Stolen from weak comps, all of them.

Who are your likeable teams?
Fair point. Some are just more extremely unlikeable than others.
By my process of elimination on the remaining teams, my least unlikeable (not most likeable) is Sydney unfortunately.
Handbaggers, well they speak for themselves
The Bears, you have flogs like Zorko, Daniher etc
Port, just the whole club and supporters plus cornflakes
Sydney have a few but they are interstate and don’t have a whole lot of media flog fan boys around so if the y win the big one it won’t be as bad

Two very interesting games style wise this weekend.

Tonight we have the best ground ball team in the land (1st) V one of the worst (16th). And we know what wins finals.

And Port have double downed by bringing in yet another tall (Marshall for McEntee).

Add losing another backline distributor Burton and their ball movement will be non existent.

Only way Port can win is if they absolutely dominate clearance (normally a strength but got belted in there by Geelong last week).

All Hawthorn have to do is be competitive in the middle and bring the ball to ground in the backline. Do that and there run, spread, ground ball game will overwhelm Port.

The current 8.5 pt line is a gift.

The second game GWS v Bris

Again two very contrasting styles,

Kick to handball % - GWS #18 Brisbane #1
Uncontested marks - GWS #13 Brisbane #1
Pressure - GWS #1 Brisbane #16
Play on % - GWS #2 Brisbane #15
The amount of chaos games involved in - GWS #3 Brisbane #16

Brisbane want (and play) a controlled kicking game more than anyone else. GWS the opposite. Play on, pressure - Chaos.
The league's best ground ball player Lachie Neale will have to explode for Bris to win. Unfort for him Toby Bedford comes back and will go straight to him and put the clamps on.

Again, we know what wins finals - kicking games when met with Pressure and Chaos invariably breakdown.

GWS $1.75 H2H. Again a gift.

This weekend is one we can gamble irresponsibly.
How are you spending your winnings??

Yes. I can confirm that it’s possible to hate Ginivan/mitchell/watsn and think what Ken did was really poor at the same time. No excuse for that kind of behaviour from a senior leader.take your win and gloat in the rooms.

Saddest thing about a little hint of hang *smile* argy bargy is that all in the Meedjia complain n whinge about there being no characters in the game any more, and no-one ever gives any open and honest comments about anything, just rote house trained beige.

*smile* meedjia expert opinionators are the ones that have killed off every trace of character over the last 30 or more years by piling on and sinking the boots into anyone foolish enough to poke their heads up. Footy fans absolutely love and thrive on a bit of argy bargy n rivalry it's another facet of what makes the fabric of our game great. Yet the meedjia with the AFLHQ's help destroy every aspect of this side of footy because they don't get to control it and make money from it. Instead we get contrived shouty noise thrown at us as entertainment and are expected to be grateful for the privilege.

It's now an awful product.

Trent gets another week's work.

I'm hoping we are in discussion to bring him back to the club. Most of the older crew will be either gone, or leaving soon, so he won't be seen as ex-captain cotch but coach cotch going forwards. We need his positivity and winning mentality back at the club in some sort of format.

Hope that didn't hurt the bank too much. Chaos without an equal amount of courage or belief obviously didn't go as well as control. Let's see how long it lasts in 24.
