Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

The rule is very simple (not right but simple). It the umpire did not call play on then it was 50 metres.
If the umpire called play on then it’s not 50, if he didn’t then it is.
Simples.
Two mistakes doesn’t make the correct decision.
Yep. It probably should have been play on. The Roo moved inwards then stopped. But it wasnt called.
But according to Kane if players think it should be play on, they can run right over the mark. Cant wait til one of our players does it.

Wow. Enjoyed AFL 360. In lockstep with PRE.

  • Kane and AFL 'taking us for fools' on the no 50m penalty tick off. Whately and Robbo in agreement.
  • Robbo said the umpiring was in crisis and something had to give, throws, HTB, consistency, a summit or inquiry was needed.
  • Expressed deep concern about the AFL ticking off Petracca going back on to the field with internal injuries.
  • Laid it out for Vossy to express frustration with the timeframe and consultation on the draft points and bidding changes, which he duly did, and Robbo said the clubs 'should do a vote of no confidence'.

What took them so long?

Jack Graham did something similar against Adelaide last week didn’t he?
50 metre penalty duly paid, which it should’ve been

And to the surprise of absolutely no-one, the AFL has ticked off the no 50 metre call from the Norf-Pies game. The error according to Kane is actually because the ump didn't call play on after Scott took a few steps.
Saw this on the news tonight. I'd have called it play on as well. #Lolnorf was off n scuttlin till he realised there was two Colonwood's coming at him n then tried to creep back behind the mark while flappin for a fifty.

Yeah what would all the ex players know. Laura is the expert.

My Dad used to say to me. Do you know what the definition of an "expert" is.

X is an unknown quantity & a spurt is a drip under pressure.

Laura Kane fits that definition to a T

Such a sad and corrupt state of affairs. The umpiring in the North and Pies game was another level of blatant. They don't even try to hide it now.

Gawd, she sounds confused in the quote above, it was a mark not a free kick.

If the umpire has blown the whistle and not yet indicated what the whistle was for, how can it be play on?

Many players walk a little forward after marking the ball and then go back to take their kick, happens all the time. But the rule is crystal clear - you cannot go over the mark, in fact because of a recent stupid rule you cannot move off the mark, until the umpire calls play on. There is no discretion here, that was as clear a 50m penalty as you will see. Geez, Dan Rioli got one awarded against him a couple of weeks ago when he inadvertently touched the shoulder of a player marking the ball as he was too late to spoil - if that is 50m then 2 players tackling the player who marked the ball certainly is.

I know they have no credibility, in fact they are even losing it with their compliant media, but this has become a running joke. No-one takes their ticking off of decisions seriously any more if anyone ever did.

Since when does a mark only get paid when the umpire yells out ‘stand’? Isn’t it just the whistle?

The stand call is to direct the player standing on the mark not to move.

as well as who?
Laura of course.
Maggots should have called play on, but didn't because as we all know, they're *smile* incompetent, then they simply confirmed and enhanced their proof of incompetence by failing to adjudicate the next ruling which was a fifty metre penalty for blatantly encroaching over the mark. The maggots then simply chose to go for the AFL / Laura beige miasma of common sense applies safety net because we *smile* up. Then adjudicated nothing to see here, we'll simply go back to pay the mark n restart from there.

Exactly. Graham didn't think it went the required distance but the umpire had blown the whistle for a mark and had not called play on. A 50 you could not argue about. Now all of a sudden the players are umpiring the game.

So if a players feigns ignorance the umpire will not be able to penalise him?

Unfortunately that never works for Shai. But he don't play for the Pies.
