Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

Hawthorn player Frost bashes the ball out of bounds deep in Port fwd line with 3 minutes left and under 2 goals needed. Throw in!. Surely that is the absolute right in the blockhole perfect time to pay Deliberate OOB, the prime reason why the rule was written? Umpiring is in the crapper.
Only saw the last 40 seconds of the game by accident, I was channel shuffling after the Storm game. If it was a spoiling attempt in a marking contest, it's perfectly legal. if not the maggots need another foot up the arse. Chortled watching that last 40 seconds as I thought we were the only side capable of giving up a couple of Harmichaels inside the last minute of a game. Look on Mitchell's face after the siren was priceless. Stunned mullet cogitating ferociously trying to figure out what the *smile* had just happened.

Ludicrous statement on many levels. Her spin is elite. And do you actually believe a man in her posi would be any different? Better? Worse? She is an elite AFL *smile* artist spin doctor, even by AFL standards.
My apologies. She obviously got the job then because as per AFL policies she's more than capable of dribbling *smile* from under three foot of fresh concrete. Rather than actually being capable of being in any way competent at managing a sporting competition to the benefit of all those who have an interest or stake in the actual game. She'll fit right in with all the other five knuckle shufflers n manipulators at HQ then.

The umpire that paid the free to Hipwood should be stood down. Had clear line of sight and no excuse for getting it so wrong. I hope we have demanded as much behind closed doors.
Given that the mistake has been publicly acknowledged we might be able to demand it without doing it behind closed doors.

So, let’s see here.
Hipwood lays a dangerous tackle that slams Tigga’s head into the turf. Gets rewarded with a free kick.
Tigga, frustrated with the lack of umpire protection from repeated hits to the head over the years, gets into a shoving match with hipwood a short time later. Hipwood gets him high again, Tigga retaliates with a tummy tap, gets a free against him again, plus a fine from the AFL.
Lefau goes for a mark, gets tunnelled, possible jaw broken in that action, gets a free kick against for “ unrealistic attempt” .
Rioli lightly brushes against a lions player, 50 metre penalty. A few occasions last night, after a Richmond player marks the ball, gets a rough shove in the back, no penalty.
Ah Chee, hands clearly on the Richmond player’s shoulders to elevate himself to take a speccy. Mark paid.
We point out that we are continually on the wrong end of free kick counts, going back years, we get called whingers, get laughed at ( even by AFL officials) and also dismissed by media. Salty Scott complains once and the head of umpiring makes a pilgrimage to appease the great one

Am I missing anything?
What am I not getting?
The other 7 blatant clangers against us in the game by the umps

And all the commentators said was that it was a good strong tackle, brayshaw I think it was.
Plus the fact I reckon he handballed it out anyway! Ump couldn’t blow his whistle fast enough. Umps don’t like Nick.
Vlas is a talented man’s man who loves a surf, is grounded and calls it as it is.
Everything a lot of Umps would love to be but aren’t

Commentators just laughed.
As they do. They are incapable of making a sensible comment so they laugh it off and continue rambling on about all things not football. Just commentate the game and stfu about other *smile*.

I thought he hand balled it too. Poor players have had a gutfull. Whilst retaliation is undisciplined, the players are only human and I can’t really blame them. I say every week that I’m not going to swear and get worked up and every week without fail I’m swearing and cursing like a trooper.

Sharp runs 22 plus meteres without bouncing, no too far call. Only 50% over what you are allowed. But hey, it's exciting so why not let it go?

They then called what looks a 15-20m kick (it was a Brisbane kick) as not far enough. I'd hate to drive in a car with these guys, their depth perception is attrocious, it would be accident city with a bunch of umpires driving around.

If there was an Umpire Clanger of the Week, there would have been a few contenders for Umpire Clanger of the Year from R 10 IMO. Some real doozies.

There are 3 big factors that compound and render umpiring abysmal IMO.

1) Most of the umps just aren't good enough often enough. Pay, recruiting and development issue.
2) Constant rule changes and bolted on sub rules that often don't align or conflict with each other. No clarity or consistency from the AFL, and rightly or wrongly, total inability to reconcile the physicality of the game with concussion and other injury issues like taking the legs. Don't get me wrong, these are very difficult issues and I don't have the answers, but the fact the AFL can't or won't address them transparently and systematically means we have big problems.
3) Compounding and closely related to 1) and 2), having 4 umps. To the eye, a lot of inconsistency and non-calls when they all think someone else will blow the whistle then its too late, and objectively, there are a lot of very late whistles currently. Far more than there used to be.

We all know that the rules of the game are now overly complex and contradictory. With many of them based upon interpretations that can go wither way. We've also seen the comment that the rules can be interpreted based on "common sense" even when the rule is black and white.

Most recently we heard the boss of football at the AFL say that the "grey" in application of rules makes the game more enjoyable.

My thesis is this. This whole umpiring debacle is by design. The intent is to increase fan engagement with the official AFL website and with articles written by accredited journo's and with shows affiliated with the AFL, All with the hope that perhaps now someone will finally acknowledge what we, the poor schmucks who follow footy, know that the AFL is rotten to the core when it comes to the rules of the game and the officiating. Of course these channels never do acknowledge it, but we keep going back, hoping that they will. Thus we support the AFL's agenda. more eyes, more clicks, more advertising (betting) revenue. We are the idiots.

Despite us getting thrashed and knowing it would have no impact on the result I was blowing my woofer valve in this game at the umpiring. Need to be careful or I'll be on meds. Just over it.

Get ready. While Vloss donates $3000 to the Gestapo Ponzi Fund, the Paddle Pops will appeal the 1 week suspension Hipwood copped and win it.

i actually just laughed when i saw that. absolutely *smile* ridiculous.

worse than the non free to Vlastuin, worse than the 50 against Broad when he moved off the mark when the player run a mile with the ball last week.

yes, there is "grey", yes mistakes happen, but why do these things always seem to happen against us. (though the Crows appear to be copping a few lately.)
