Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

This isn't getting better anytime soon, was at corporate function Friday Arvo, and had the pleasure of the GM of footy speak dribble. Said she loved the grey in the game when it comes to umpiring decisions, the crows CEO had to pipe up and say no one wants grey, they want consistency. With someone like her in charge of the game ain't nothing going to change anytime soon.
Good on the Crows CEO. She’s a complete idiot if that’s what she really thinks. It just an excuse for not actually doing her job. *smile* poor.

Just watched parts of the replay. WTF was that stupid, dumbsh!t call from the flog in the 3rd when Pickett leaped for a mark and gave them a gimmee? We had a small momentum at the time.

I was listening to 3AW yesterday morning and a caller (Richmond fan) queried why the media aren’t calling out this incredible, years long, bias against Richmond. Caro and Bartel say ONE of the reasons is Richmond’s game style of letting the opposition get the ball first and then put pressure on them which means giving away more frees (for too high or in the back), Bartel agreed.

They don’t get it.

There are none so blind as those who refuse to see.

How many coaches, how many different game styles, how many generations of players? Yet, we still lose the free kick count week after week, year after year.

Something is clearly amiss.

I genuinely believe oppo players are instructed to ham up everything when they play us as they know this’ll result in extra free kicks.

It looked like unrealistic attempt to the naked eye, but I think the intent of the rule is if you take out an opponent, he didn't. The umps were negligent cheats last night. You cop one or two clangers sure, but so many crap decisions gifted them goals or stopped our momentum and allowed them easy outs. Some were so bad you'd have to bring it to their attention by the back channels surely?

Agree.

Agree. It looks so predictable everytime we pick up some sort of momentum. Been happening too often. That 50 on Duz was another pathetic decision.

Grey in the game perfectly suits the beige miasma that's been pouring out of HQ for the last 30 years.

How on earth did she get this job? Just absolute drivel.

Allows them to get way with anything they want and to reduce the number of free kicks given because, hey, it's a grey area, we don't need to award a free if we don't feel like it.

Also, the notion of grey areas is not reflected in the rules as written and published by the AFL, could hey at least be honest to the supporters? Yeah, I know, too much to ask for.

This is a recipe for inconsistent adjudication - which is exactly what we have.

How can someone say that with a straight face? Oh I forgot, it's Giggling Laura and her weekly word salad.

Reminds me of Muhammad Saeed Al-Sahhaf - the artist formerly known as Comical Ali.

Talk that Hipwood will get suspended for the sling tackle on Vlastuin, for which he RECEIVED a free kick. I can't remember too many times when a player RECEIVED a free for an incident they were subsequently suspended for. I remember a similar thing happening to Kamdyn a few years ago. I'll go out on a limb and say wee would be leading that particular stat, as in the free awarded against us.

Player infringes, receives a free kick from bad umpiring decision, and is subsequently suspended for the infringement. Wouldn't be many. The stat could be called "undisputable uber-clanger umpiring decision".

Asking for a friend. Is there an AFL rule called behind the nine?
THAT is a very good question. Numerous times this season we have given up a 50m penalty for this, last night it was Dusty. Would like to know if it is written in black and white or just another “common sense” rule (that only applies against Richmond). I have definitely heard umpires asking players to step behind the 9, but last night we get no such courtesy.

Or stupidity.

But we must remember that umpires are only human ---- apparently!!!!!

A player could cave in Vlaustins head and floss would give away a free kick for headbutting. No other club has to put up with this bias.

And all the commentators said was that it was a good strong tackle, brayshaw I think it was.

Not talk, official. Hipwood got 1 week and Vlastuin a fine for the tummy tap
