Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

Pop quiz sports fans. 2 questions.
In 2024 a team has the ball knocked out in the tackle. Ump response, play on. Who tackled who?
In 2024 a team has the ball knocked out in the tackle. Ump response, free kick Brisbane. Who tackled who?
It's not a change in outcome, who actually gives a *smile*, but the actions of the umps fro the first free to Joe the goose shows how absolutely *smile* we are in the AFL.
The 50 against Rioli.
The 50 against Dusty ‘outside 9’ is just a joke of a rule which he barely breached.
Harris Andrews basically tunnelled Lefau.
Holding the ball early against Vlastuin is always play on - against us it’s HTB
Ball knocked out with no tackle laid - for us its HTB

The game is a nightmare to watch umpire and rule wise, for Richmond supporters regardless of the scoreboard..!

Have been against speaking out on the umpiring but tonight has changed my mind. Yze needs to demand action on the Hipwood sling tackle on Vlastuin that resulted in a free against Vlastuin!
If the AFL is serious about protecting the head then that error has to be called out. No equivocation, simply state that the umpire was wrong.
Anything else has no credibility.
My view would be that given all the publicity about sling tackles and protecting the head it would also be the right thing to stand the umpire down for a week.

We’ll probably be investigated for not taking Vlastuin off for a concussion test. The umpires never ever make mistakes. We all know this.

Its another one of those (and we've had them before), that they get MRO punishment but the umpires in their wisdom saw it the other way, was a pretty clear sling tackle, with obvious head high contact to the ground, but they pay HTB.

Add that to the ridiculous 50 against Dan Rioli for barely brushing the shoulder of Lohmann.

I am just sick of it, that 50m f against Rioli was the biggest head scratcher. They make up their own *smile* and it seems unaccountable for their bizarre decisions. Seem to get away with it week after week. What have we done to upset them tog eat this *smile* on a weekly basis.

What goes through umpires minds? You really have to wonder. Lets gift a few extra goals to a side that is already winning by 10 or 15 goals? How come we never got that fringe benefit when we were dominating?

Yep. How was it holding the ball when he wasn’t tackled? Even if he was the ball was knocked out - if it was us it’d be play on. Different rules. And the Rioli 50!

Vlastuin was so pissed off that the umps missed that tackle. Don't blame the guy. The AFL has not looked after him one iota!

Vlastuin has been very badly treated by umpires for years, they just don't seem to care if he gets his head knocked off. He should sue the AFL when he retires for any problems which come from not having his head protected at all.

It is a disgrace.

I went back all the way to 1998 and this year Tigers thus far is the worst differential by a long way at this point. The next worst was 2015, you guessed it Tigers at -5.1. It's insane really. No frees don't have to be the same but last or near last every single year for years on end?

I was listening to 3AW yesterday morning and a caller (Richmond fan) queried why the media aren’t calling out this incredible, years long, bias against Richmond. Caro and Bartel say ONE of the reasons is Richmond’s game style of letting the opposition get the ball first and then put pressure on them which means giving away more frees (for too high or in the back), Bartel agreed.

They don’t get it.

But we’re not doing that now. Other teams do it and are not penalised for it, but what can you expect from an ex Cat and a woman who has used her connections to the club to get sensationalist stories and further her career.

This isn't getting better anytime soon, was at corporate function Friday Arvo, and had the pleasure of the GM of footy speak dribble. Said she loved the grey in the game when it comes to umpiring decisions, the crows CEO had to pipe up and say no one wants grey, they want consistency. With someone like her in charge of the game ain't nothing going to change anytime soon.

I said this elsewhere, but it seems that no matter what an umpire does, the AFL will clear it. If Peter Carey was still umpiring (about the last decent one) and marked the ball like he did one night, even if he didn't make this call, one of his mates would probably pay a free kick against the player who kicked the ball for endangering the umpire. Then the MRO would try and suspend the player for making contact with the umpire.
