Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

I can't be bothered re-typing my thoughts on this o am just gonna cut and paste from precious rants...

Kicking in danger has been for a few years now "Kicking in a manner likely to cause injury". That's what made the two different decisions on the weekend harder to fathom. Either pay both or pay neither.
The trouble is that the rules of our game are open to interpretation. Then the AFL change or alter, the interpretations. They then alter them back because this didn't work or, as a result of the interpretation change, this happened.
Then you have 3 different umpires interpreting all of the rules in 3 different ways. Some umpires are sticking to the way they have always done it. Others take a few of the interpretation changes on and ignore the others. Then you have the robotic umpires who go out their armed with Gieschen's latest fresh in their minds and follow it religously.
Then you get the umpires who mash up a combination of all of the above but yet also cling on to long ago changed, albeit slightly, interpretations of the rules.

I think one of the factors is that we have gone from 1 to 2 and then to 3 umpires. All of whom have slightly different interpretations as to how they pay decisions.
Add to that the fact that the AFL seem to have a 'rule of the week, or month' and each of the umpires seem to hold onto the changes in interpretations for a different amount of time.
While one ump (ump 1) of the 3 is paying the latest chopping the arms rule (for example), the one at the other end (ump 2 or 3) has decided that isn't so relevant as it was at the start of the season and therefore is reluctant to give similar frees to ump 1. Obviously this creates huge inconsistencies in the interpretation of one rule alone.
So, over the course of the game, you have so many inconsistencies that it becomes almost farcical, because as we all know, there are so many rules in our game that over the last few years the AFL have had the rule of the week (which they deny) but that has contributed to the lack of uniform decisions made by the umps.
This results in major frustrations for both players, coaches and fans alike.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Port two goals soft frees. The second one was a shocker pure guess work from the umpire as he could not have paid otherwise.

The first quarter was some of the worst umpiring I have ever seen!

How can you dominate in every stat and have so much of the ball but still significantly behind on the frees?

Can't say I have any real complaints this week. Maybe coz we won?
I'm much the same, it wasn't good, but it wasn't absolutely dreadful, which is about the best we can hope for. Put it this way I didn't swear at them as much as I normally do.

Thought the umps did a reasonable job overall today. At least they kept the game moving and weren't petty.
Like any team sport the ump is bound t make some mistakes but are not hammered as much in other sports. Methinks Some of the tigers supporters want perfection but due to human nature it ain't going to happen

Agree. 1st quarter was the worst umpiring. Lol at port fans at the ground thinking they were crucified by the umps today. Port fans were feral and had no idea today

I'd settle for a bit of common sence

What is annoying me more than anything (and im not just referring to Richmond games), is the amount of free kicks the player being tackled is receiving. Way too 'tiggy touchwood' push in the backs and high contact free kicks. There was one free kick in the lions v eagles game earlier where a perfect tackle was laid, but the lions player arms dropped just a smidgen late in the tackle, so the ump gives the eagles player a free for an alleged 'legging.' It was a joke.

having a listen to SEN on Friday even Neil Balme had a crack at KB over the marking rule. Luv KB but the stupidity, arrogance and defiance there is nothing wrong was in itself summed up that nothing will change and part of the problem that wont be fixed

From the fingernails touching someones back being a free kick and that puppet Giesch carrying on about degrees of this and that. ITS ALL BULLDUST. In some way I pity the umpires as they are the messengers in this.

From supporters, players, coaches and commentators since a few years ago when this farce happened its getting worse.

Oh and KB's response watch the dvd, its free. It's also on the AFL site. It's easy to understand...blah, blah blah. crap

I wonder is it all about egos running the rules committee to see themselves with some self glorification of importance in the game. Still graving for some limelight about all those involved in this farce. I do really wonder.

Umpiring was ok after 1/4 time. First quarter we got murdered. Every point they scored came from frees. Was frustrating to listen to the lame commentary as well - getting sucked in by the Port ferals. The Gray free in the first and the Martin free in the second were almost the same thing. Yet one was obvious and the other fortunate. Clowns. Could have been 60 in front by quarter time if not for the lime green Port Adelaide Cheer Squad.
