Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

For those who watched the Footy Show yesterday, they showed BT going spastic in some games where the umpire just clearly takes it all in and doesn't report or penalise him.

What's wrong with these wimps nowadays??

And the call for the review on the remotest possibility of a finger on our goal 20 minutes into last? Difference was 40 points . And they ignore it last week.

Its as if our great game has fallen prey to censorship from a mindless pack of little dictators determined to sanitise it beyond recognition. There is no black and white only grey areas. And the game is REALY suffering now.

The middle part of that game was bewildering

I get frustrated with umpires but rarely openly criticise them because it is generally a cop out excuse for teams that play poorly. However, the 2nd and 3rd quarters tonight was just about the worst umpiring against one side that I have seen since the 1995 farce against North Melbourne where Brett Allison kicked 3 goals in the last quarter of a tight game from free kicks when he took dives Matthew Lloyd would have been proud of.

Fair dinkum that was a disgrace tonight. It bordered on outright cheating. That no. 19 umpire whoever he was umpired like he was on Brian Cook's payroll or else he had $10K on Geelong to win. We were clearly on top by 3 goals until midway through the 2nd quarter and then the farce started. Soft free kicks to Geelong players which weren't reciprocated when the same thing happened to Richmond players. It was like they wanted them back in the game.

Then that 3rd quarter decision against Newman who got dealt with roughly by Hunt after he kicked the the ball to Dusty who marked 20m out dead in front. Yet somehow it was against Newman :frustration Then we gave away 50 metre penalty and the game is over. :veryupset :veryupset

We did not get one free kick in the second quarter. Geelong got 6 but we were on top for at least half the quarter :headscratch

Nup, the umpiring tonight was diabolical. It must have been very deflating for the players. Never seen a Richmond crowd so angry with umpires (well maybe that 1995 game against North).

Umpire appreciation week? They can get *smile*.

This league has deteriorated badly and I feel sorry for the kids of nowadays and the future. I'm glad I grew up watching better times.

I almost wish that my son had taken up soccer at the moment.

yeah it was just shocking. The whole crowd could sense it. Even neutrals.

Agreed - umpiring was incompetent and biased in favour of Geelong at the crucial parts of the game.

Most annoying thing is the frees ended up being 18-13 due to a couple of late cheapies to us. So when the umpiring review comes arounf this week they will pat eachother on the back and say a job well done.

It was 10-4 at half time when it counted. Including 6-0 in second quarter.

I suppose most people have already said it, but the last 10 minutes of the 2nd quarter was just high farce. If you didn't konw better you'd think the umps were literally asked to swing the game. Free after free went to them for bugger all. Absolutely sucked the momentum right out of us.

At the ground you could just sense the whole thing. It was like a balloon being delflated.

I hate when umpires just wreck a really good spectacle.

Agree 100% with all that. It was like they had all backed Geelong to win. One of the most corrupt displays of umpiring I have ever witnessed.

the second quarter was diabolical. I've rarely seen one sidedness the like of that in 40 years.

And I follow Richmond!

Absolute momentum killer

Yep it killed any chance we had in this game. We were smashed by a better side for the last quarter and a half but the umpires had well and truly set it up for Geelong before that.

no no no no no.

the game is going to the dogs. it shouldn't be this way. and we as fans of the game definitely shouldn't accept it as 'it is what it is'

i agree with you ian4, but there is nothing that we can do about it.

it is what it is

Can someone explain something to me? Although being about the umpires maybe not.

Anyway I can't recall the quarters but West I think it was jumped at the ball and his knee hit Maric in the face and it was play on not that long after Maric playing the ball made contact with West again I think it was and a free kick awarded against Maric. Surely in a ruck contest if you are playing the ball there will be some incidental head contact and it should be play on.

Am I right or have I got it wrong?

I just saw the Newman incident again. I still can't believe that decision. I haven't been this upset since Libba hit Knights.

Why are the umps red hot on the holding the ball at the start of each year, and as the season gets going, it just seems to disappear? Can't remember one being paid all night, yet I remember yelling ball a lot. Joke.

It was right in front of me. A staggering decision. Can only deduce the umpires were cheating. The crowd in our section went ballistic. Just about the most furious I've ever seen a crowd.

Wouldn't mind another look myself. Did you see it online somewhere?
