Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

My argument about cheating umpires was just displayed then on the Olympics.
Aussie player gets deliberately tripped in the women's hockey, blatant as day,Aussies go for the video review as the trip wasn't called by the umpire.
The video review gets rejected.
Just an example of cheating umpires and this is the pinnacle of sporting competitions lol.

I was all for the "goal line technology" as though it wouldn't be perfect it would at least minimise errors. But i think after watching it in action the error rate if anything has increased. Though no doubt the AFL spin doctors will tell us otherwise.

Prepare for some gratuitous referrals to get the percentages up.

:hihi how that push in the back to Jack wasn't paid in the last is just comical. And then there is the treatment Cotchin got from Raines!

Good umpiring tonight. They stayed quiet for most of the game and let it roll on.

Yep, thought they were ok. Good to see the trend of umps rushing to ping players for the holding the ball has ceased.

I agree. Pretty good tonight. Most frees paid tonight were all pretty obvious. Pay the obvious ones is all they need to do.

I thought that they were ok, although i'm sure Mathew Lloyd would have got the free kick that Jack didn't.

I think the push in the back has been unoffially retired from the rule book. It happens all game, every game and all teams do it. It's become a real novelty when you actually see it paid. It seems ridiculous that the merest touch in a marking contest is a free kick when the umpire is 50m away, yet you can dislocate a players spine in plain view of everyone and it doesn't even warrant a "play on" call.

I think you,re referring to pitb when a player is kicking? This is odd.

Hardly noticed them. I would honestly pay extra to have this sort of umpiring every week.

Was there at the G (abba) and would agree with that, it made the game vastly more enjoyable to watch.

Yes I drives me insane. You see a player burst through the middle being chased, then as he kicks it the chasing player lunges and shoves him usually between the waist and the rib age.

Not sure if anyone saw the Eagles vs Cats last night but the umpires were on a mission. I was cob smacked, the commentators were also at pains to justify what was happening.

Deliberate out of bounds is the NEW INTERPRETATION of the week.

That Afl puppet Geisch has sent his sms to enforce. (Not the umpires at fault) Ready... 9 paid in one game. It's been a long time since I have seen umpires leave so quickly from a ground with a full escort to protect. Crowds from both sides were uncontrolable in my view. Every single time the ball went out of bounds the crowds were going crazy like a big farce demanding a free kick.

The banner in the crowd where they walked off said it all. Umps, all we want is consistenancy.

AFL YOU ARE A JOKE !

Also just found in the AFL site Chris Scott's response to being question. See title FREE KICKS 'EMBARRASSING. Not sure if I can put link but it's easily found

One thing I agree with Scott, it's not the umpires fault as they have been directed to do this.

Also Scott said the following "But I felt desperately for the umpires because in a really hostile environment, you know there are some idiots in the crowd here, they were under all sorts of pressure because, I reckon, they were doing what they were told."

The AFL are a joke. The clubs, players and spectators have no idea how this once great game of ours is being officiated irrespective what AFL dribble is spilled out. Worsfold said he was told nothing of the change, Scott said he had heard Geisch during an interview talk about that rule but was not told anything in the briefing. Further saying that the briefings were irrelvant.

Which brings me to one of my many points in my 10000th post... How can Anderson seriously justify keeping geisch in his job?

The Giesch just does what he's told, which is partly why he has the job.

Had to laugh during the week, he sounded exactly like he did in his days as Richmond coach...all positive spin.

Sometimes it an advantage not playing on the friday night so you can see what the rule of the week is going to be and plan accordingly, with so many deliberate OOB paid last night and the media and public beat up about it, you can almost guanantee that they wont pay it for the rest of the round except for the blatant ones.

All we have to worry about is which rule they dust off for our game tomorrow.

we should know that rule by now. The 'free against, you play for Richmond' Rule. Not to be confused with the 'free against, your Jake King' Rule or the 'No free, your Jack Riewoldt' Rule ;D
