Like you, in recent years I have switched off games purely because of umpiring - games of teams i don't even support becuase of the pure frustration of the game being dumbed down to suit the umpires.

While we are on the Subi crowds, what is it with all that constant standing up out of their seats that they all seem to do? I'm glad I don't watch footy there, I'd be forever yellling out: "Siddown in front, you goose," to pretty much everyone sitting in front of me.

I don't think many would disagree but it's swung so far the other way that even the players look confused. When the rules committee realises that as custodians of the game there is a duty to listen to the frustrations of those who keep the damn sport afloat - i.e. us - then we'll see some action. Deliberate out of bounds, a fingernail in the back, brushing the arms or a 50m penalty for looking at an umpire the wrong way does not constitute the spirit of the game.Jason King said:
