Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

i didn't see jack playing for free kicks,i did see the north player constantly wrapping his arms around him though.

jack wasn't playing for free kicks....geee we were right in the forward pocket during that second quarter that roo,s player was just holding and grabbing him the whole time..it was quite mind boggling ...at stages i thought some fans were so frustrated they were going to jump the fence...

watching the replay last night we were absolutely slaughtered by umpiring in that first half..the free against tuck which gave hansen his goal at quarter time was madness to point of serious questions asked about biased umpiring.....one of the worst decisions in my lifetime......we woulda won if that wasn't paid ya know

I just had to laugh when they squared up the deliberate out of bounds by awarding a ridiculous one against North. These blokes are clowns. No feel for the game. The melee needed an NRL or Rugby style ref calling over the captains and making it clear to North that if one more player tries to impede Ivan from getting to the ruck a free will be paid.

I was sitting with a few Tigers and one North supporter today and the conclusion we came to - aside from abject frustration - is that unlike many other codes, AFL adjudicators seem to lack that innate, natural instinct for the game.

correct. we've got too many robots umpiring the game who are more concerned about perfecting their backward run

I suppose the great teams win regardless of getting a shonky deal.
I guess I will have to take some medicine and realise this after all this time.

:hihi

Hope we put in another 'please explain' this week.

We will and geishen will say that the umpiring in our game was all above board and that the umpires should be applauded for their decision making throughout the match and also adding that umpire no.24 had an outstanding match and wasn't biased at all towards NM.

I say it every time: it is not the free kicks that are given that are the problem, it is the ones that aren't that hurt.

Is Deledio the first player to question an umpiring decision this year? He clearly was tackled high in an open field position but the free didn’t come. He questions the decision and gives away a free, then he questions it again gives away a 50.

Now that umpires are miked up, on TV we hear them discussing decisions with players all game long. It seems to me that they are always in two-way banter with players querying and umpire explaining. No, I saw a clear hands in the back, no that wasn’t a push, no, you didn’t touch it before it went through for a goal, no, I was on the wrong side and couldn’t see if it was a throw….blah, blah, blah………….. Watching the replay last night, I quite clearly heard an umpire telling a North Melb player not to get upset with him because the free that he had just called was against another player and he hadn’t done anything wrong. Every time there they request a video replay for a score, there are a number of players putting in their 2 cents worth, were are all the frees and 50 m penalties then

Similar circumstances, different result.

Why single out one incident out of many? It is very hard to win games under these circumstances.

You got me going TOT70

I for one hate the presumption that umpires know what the player was thinking in order to pay deliberately out of bounds. It's the height of pontification.

Fact, they don't know, just as the player rolls the ball goalward and it ends up out of bounds, players roll the ball boundary wise but don't always control the oval ball - Cotchin for example yesterday. It was execution error not deliberate.

Nuh....it'll be the usual cliche: 'We wuz wrong dis week, maybe next week hey?' or let's go formal: 'We apologise for any incovenience caused'.

That really got my blood boiling yesterday TOTTIES. The video review. The ump has to make that decision on his own, he got forced into it by the North players, that is a complete disgrace and not the way the system (which I don't endorse anyway) is supposed to work.

Cotchin was hard against the boundary, under pressure, and got the ball forward the best way he could. He was trying to attack - how on earth any umpire could think he was actually seeking the boundary is beyond me.

dont be silly, bumping off the ball is never a free. oh wait.......

I think Jeff Geischen and Rowan Sawyers are the two most overly paid bureaucrats in the AFL.

That is, after "Zee Fuhrer" Demetriou and his henchman "Himmler" Anderson.
