Trent Cotchin (Merged)

Staggered at people turning their nose up at Cotchin including an honest assessment of the key issues.

Im more annoyed that Dimma ended a generation of success over a fling.

Dimma got ahead of himself.
Thought he deserved to bask in the Premiership spoils, including pay rises and new fluff.
He built the team’s cultural fabric on old fashioned values.
Forgot how the game of Jenga works

Maybe our era ended in October 2020.
We are all blessed to have won 3 flags.
Clubs haven't won 3 in 100 years.
Who really gives a flying toss.
Fingers crossed now that Yze has taken job he can bring in new kids that can take us back up the ladder.

You just knew there was something with the split that affected the group as we where never the same. Personally i dont like exposing it and it shows some of Cotch's true character although a lot of this seems to be his wife getting her revenge for her close mate Mrs Hardwick. Bit rich from Cotch though who milked the last 20 or so games of his career for a personal milestone robbing minutes of others. Astbury for mine was the most Richmond man we had. Did it the right way!
Said it before that Dimma gave us 3 flags but perhaps how many did we also miss out on

Love Dimma, forever indebted and hope he does well at GC. Am sure he will - he's an outstanding coach.

But his ego has definitely grown 10 fold over the past few years.

He had "eye of the Tiger' revenge.
He went after all those knobs that laughed and joked about him and the club.

It did but it shouldnt have,
4 in 5???
We wouldn't have beaten Melbourne.
They were playing quality footy.
But we will never know.
Our dominance at the G disappeared too.
We couldn't kick a goal against Stkilda.
There were signs the group were tiring.

The AFL targeted rule changes halted our dynasty more than anything. Unprecedented interference.
Wonder if Cotch put the club reaction to that in the book.
It did affect our game but any good coach would have adapted to suit the new rules. All the other coaches managed it OK yet we still haven't caught up.

Love our skip like my own child but he is very naieve.
Some of the excerpts have been cringeworthy.
Silence is golden.
Doesn't and never will need the cash.
Just roll off into the sunset with reputation in check.

People forget Hardwick wasn't a good at changing things mid game.
Match day coaching wasnt his strongest asset.

Interesting to see if/how/what Dimma responds.

It’s not really that controversial but I guess it does give some insight into Dimma’s thought process just before quitting given Cotch has said it was different. What’s not been said by Cotch is that Dimma probably did a fair bit of self reflecting of his own coaching before pulling the pin & has said as much.
No reason to doubt any of what Cotch has said. Also not much reason to doubt that Dimma saw that Lynch down and Jack finished (and Rance gone), meant the end of an era on field.

His personal circumstances, which probably also included a young woman who was embarrassed to stay, meant that it was time to change his surroundings.

It wasn’t until the 22 draft that our emphasis turned so emphatically to disposal skill, our game before the stand rule being so different.
That rule change was aimed directly at our chaos game and hit us like a bomb.
Never to be forgotten.

…that should read 21 draft.

I said it multiple times about the split affecting the group (and told its BS multiple times), its logical as Cotch had said when the suit of amour was connection..

Remember during the premierships Dimma would often say before speaking of Cotch that he gets emotional just speaking about him... After 2020 that was never the case.

As I've stated previously, life and circumstances can change over the years including the person, I have nothing but love for Dimma, i have no doubt we got the best out of him and the playing group. did we let one slip, i think 2018 for sure and possibly more, but we got 3 memories we will take to the grave.

Start of a new era with Yze, lots of media stating we need to fall further to eventually move back up.

As others have stated our future is clearly determined by how many of the younger players improve in 2024., not just for 2024 but as a list and into the future, fascinating season ahead.
