With Brodders on this. His ability to see understand why his teams lose (or are losing) was (and is) and underrated skill of his.

Only need to look at the teams ability to:

1) Turn around an earlier loss then reverse that in big games later in the year.
2) Turn around an in-game deficit in finals matches. All the Geelong games were cases in point.

We did these things when the key assistants were there, Fly, Leppa, Carracella.

Noticeable drop off after 2020. Dimma was a culture builder. Someone who can build a culture, a game plan and get buy-in. But not a in-game tactician.

That's what the rest of the crew did for him. He played to his strengths and built the right team around him.

Dunno.... everyone is crying out for transparency and he gives it and some don't want to hear it.
Can't see how this impacts Cotch's standing at the club one little bit.
As for KB.... loved him as a player and everything he did to help us have success.
As I've aged though, I sort of see him as a bloke with a huge narcissistic personality.
Transparency of the inner sactum is fine but when you start dragging peoples personal life that involves their kids and extended family then i think it is a low blow just to sell a few books.

LeppaFlyCella as the masters of our success is almost as big as myth as Hardwick cant matchday coach.

Exactly we had a list that was build strategy based around a certain style of play that worked. The AFL turned the game on it's head by removing pressure on the ball carrier with us most affected. Chaos out, clinical in. I remember thinking in the round 3 loss against Sydney back in 2021 that the sport looked completely different.
That was not easy to correct overnight. We're playing catch up now by placing a premium on disposal but were at the wrong end of the draft. Gil's henchman SHocking royally shafted us.
The umpires were instructed that day to destroy us. They got like 8 free kicks in a row to open up an 8 goal lead. The one before half time was blatant cheating.
That game was so obvious the AFL had enough of us dominating.
That was the game Warner showed how good he was.

Not calling them the masters anywhere but feel free to create your own myth pal. But you cannot deny the significance of their departures.

Hardwick hated the attention they were getting especially Carcella & Leppa.
He busted his ass for 6 yrs and soon as he wins the flag. The media are pointing to the assistants.
They played a huge roll.
Carcella got us playing with 1 key foward and 4 pressure fowards and leppa made our back 6 unbeatable.

Just don’t understand why a bloke that is probably worth 10mill, would bother writing a book that will cause you grief
Can’t imagine he did it to make money.
More likely that, as the club Captain, he just wanted to tell the truth.

True, still impacted the group and changed dynamics.

No it's not, Dimma had a game plan and rarely deviated from it. It was a strength and a weakness.

The magnets rarely moved.
Disagree.

Mid game, 1/4 time or by 1/2 time the team structure was tweaked. Some positioning was shifted, minor change that cut off the bad guys ball movement.
Say they played through the corridor, or were going short at hbf. We'd close it up, and suddenly the oppo had no path forward. How many times did we see them stop scoring in the 2nd half, but still have plenty of the ball.
We shut down their ball movement, simple.
That tweak in mid-game is Dimma and his team.

Example #1 the 2017 AFL Grand Final. Crows couldnt switch and run it through the fat side to Lynch after 1/4 time.
Example #2 2020 AFL Grand Final. In fact every Geelong game. They'd lose all drive after half time. Every time.

Trent has been honest.
Spoke about his anxiety attacks in the 2017 finals series and consulting with Ben Crowe to remedy it.
It's not just about the sum total of disposals, but uplifting presence on the field.
Interesting to read how pivotal Jack was in persuading Dusty to stay loyal.
Earlier, Jack had rejected major pay offers from Fremantle & especially Brisbane.

It's building his media and influencer profile. Much more about clicks and more media exposure than book sales.

His right to do that of course.

Both can be true.
A snr coach is only as good as his assistants & it's largely up to them to source the quality of those assistants.
Dimma may have the top job & ultimately gets the credit but there's several working parts to a Premiership & I am sure he'd be the first to acknowledge that.

Kingsley, Clarke & McQualter also deserve a mention in this thread. All made a great contribution to our period of success.

You've got Zips in your corner, Ive got Lazy in mine. Should we call it a nil all draw?

But seriously, i dont deny it those guys appeared to contribute to our success, but the original statement was that Hardwick isnt a good match day coach, our results prove this is not the case, unless you reckon those assistants had control on game day.

Cotch will be spewing when he reads this thread. Seems pretty much that his whole book has been quoted and dissected on here.

Probably will cost him 10,000+ sales.

We will find out about Dimma’s coaching ability soon enough.

Gold Coast is primed to blow open a Premiership window in a few years. The talent they have coming through is unbelievable.

This

In the end the secret of any leader’s success is the ability of those around him/her. Assembling a great team is a skill in itself and the days of a football team being successful on the back of the coach alone are long gone.

We literally have no idea in what way the assistant coaches contributed to our success or to what extent but what we do know is that we had a great football team, a great head coach and a great support team around him. No team can be successful without that and recognising what people bring to the club and the team is an indispensable skill of a modern day coach.

Whether our drop off since then has been caused by the drop off of performance by the head coach, lesser qualified assistants or loss of quality players is not something we can judge. In all likelihood it is a combination of all 3.

Whatever the reason in my mind Dimma was a Tiger coaching great as much for who he assembled around him as for what he brought personally to the role. I don’t like the narrative that seeks to diminish what he achieved.
