Trent Cotchin (Merged)

Best speech was with the club where even the little future legend looked a bit sad.

Yeah his opening line at the presser was something on the lines of “ I’ve already spoken to the boys do I have to speak here”…. ( something like that )

Wasn’t comfortable speaking about himself.

I’m more convinced then ever after listening to Balme, that Trent was the inspiration, instigator of the culture shift and how he thought things could be achieved with care, love , vulnerability and togetherness.

It forced a shift in Hardwick and a loosening up.

Other clubs who have copied this ‘mantra’ have achieved premiership success , but it was Trent together with Hardwick and the people at the club with the shift in mindset after the disastrous 16 season that saw us climb ‘the mountain’ , three times in four years.

Trent’s legacy will be immortalised in time alongside Jack Dyer.

Waiting.

I watched the video of his speech to the players and others and it was a privilege to be able to watch it.
Absolutely 100% spot on ............. bought a lump to the throat and a tearing to the eyes, but that's OK because I recall those very same feelings when watching us lift the Trophies in '17, '19 & '20 and what a feeling it was.

It's already been perfectly posted in here by everyone how much this Man has meant to us all, so I'll simply say ....

Thank You Trent Cotchin, your leadership and direction and great Footy ability has this Great Club back where it belongs, enjoy retirement, you've more than earnt it.

Well done Skippa. You probably changed the culture of the club more than anyone else in it's history.

Totally agree. He looked more nervous today than when he was younger accepting captaincy.

i'll leave it to my partners line watching a game in 2019.. which I've probably posted here before..

high praise for a Captain

How has the AFL not pinned on the landing page of its website the announcement of his retirement? Three time captain of the contemporary dynasty!

I truly believe he hasn't received the plaudits he's deserved from the AFL media throughout his stellar career.

He's one of the greatest Captains our club has ever had.

Salutations Trent, you're a true Legend.

Dunno about the media but hes a bit of a selwood with the fans both champions who for one reason or another seem to rub people up the wrong way

Firstly, how did Jabber get more Brownlow votes than Chimp!

My time watching live
1. Richo - club would’ve folded without him
2. Dusty
3. Cotchy/Rance/Jack
4. Weightman/Knights

Was a special thank you for his mentor Ben Crowe. Massive reason for his turnaround from the depths of 2016.
Crowe’s work with Chimp, Barty etc and his general thoughts on dealing with pressure, thoughtfulness, performance etc are really really interesting. And it’s not your fluffy, light weight sort of stuff either or even this popular “accepting your imperfections”. In fact, some of it is the opposite. A lot of it is hard nosed assessment, how to deal with adversity and not look to blame shift like a lot of people do nowadays and a lot of other very direct self improvement advice.

He’s actually quite critical of how a lot of high level sportspeople, executives and what not go about things in the current age.

There was a dark time when Coughlan was my shining light. If he'd played more games I'm sure he'd be in contention too.

Great player, great captain and great person. We were very lucky to have him at our club. Gave us all memories through consistent elite performances and three flags that we never thought we'd see. Didn't and still doesn't get the recognition he properly deserves beyond our club, but retires as an all-time Richmond great - never to be forgotten. Thank you Trent Cotchin for everything.
