Trent Cotchin (Merged)

Love a couple of these stats from the ALF article:
  • 2012 AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year.
He and Touk Miller in 2022 the only players to win the award in a side that didn’t make finals.
Polled in 20 games that year, the only person to have achieved that in a H&A season
  • Holds the record for consecutive games polling AFL Coaches Association votes.
19 straight games from 2012 Round Seven through to 2013 Round Three.
No other player has polled in more than 15 consecutive matches.
Also:
  • Won his first 16 games vs Brisbane, the first player to have had a 16-0 vs any team since Chris Langford v Richmond in 1994. His record vs Brisbane now stands at 18-2

Amazing stats re 2012. Staggered that some ( not us) think he didn’t deserve the brownlow that year.
Still very dirty on that drug cheat denying him the glory on the night

It is a fARCe it is not 19-1.

As for his 2012, i reckon his reputation has suffered a bit from his change in style. he is painted as a bit of a kick chaser early in his career, when he was in fact a brilliant player who didnt have the necessary quality around him.

he is truly one of the all time greats at Tigerland.

Buddy was front & centre for his 350th on the AFL website last week. Lets hope Trent is accorded the same honour in the next few days.

What a fantastic player he's been, not only for us but for the entire competition.

Well done Trent, you are an absolute Legend.

Congratulations on reaching your 300th, you truly are one of the greatest players that has ever played for The Mighty Tigers.

my enduring memory of Trent

there was a lot of froth n bubble on the forums about Trent 's first few games
from what I saw on TV I was thinking maybe our supporters had got ahead of themselves

Mid season I got to see the Tiges live V Lions at Etihad

a scrubby kick goes out to Trent on the wing , a clean pick up but he's isolated and has 4 Lions in pursuit

he ran like a figure 8 pattern , even had a bounce , it wasn't Castagna headless chook
he was under real pressure but didn't panic
and finally somebody drifts up to the centre and calls , bang 40 mtr flat handpass on the tit mind you

I was 10 rows back from the fence , absolute perfect view , WOW , its was all true , we have ourselves a gem

love it. Another nice one is Cotch and Jack on the all-time games played together list, already in rarified air, another 5 and go top 5.

As a long time committee man of the Skip fan club , where do you think they’ll move Jacks statue to :)) .

3 things I believe the Skip is generally underrated for by the general footy lover . 1 his exceleration he had early in his career .2 his strength , as strong as I’ve seen in a contest , again and again he’s beaten much bigger heavier opponents and probably his most underrated strength in the non Tiger supporting flogs is his unsurpassed toughness and hardness at both ball and man , I’ve always thought G Archer stood alone in this area , with numerous others been just behind , however Trent Cotchin in my extremely bias eyes is the toughest/ hardest most courageous player I’ve seen .

Anyone want to buy the very first Trent Cotchin 9 signed autograph he did as a Tiger ? Well it’s not for sale , it is my most treasured Tiger possession

unassuming genius is Trent Cotchin ..

"it's like he's conducting an orchestra", were my partners words when she watched him play ... right on ..

The measure of how much he played a part in our transformation from that disaster of 2016, to then be a 3 x Premiership Captain will be felt post retirement.

This isn’t putting down or denigrating a Nankervis or Grimes, but Cotch was the ‘spiritual “ leader at the RFC in my eyes. I love both those two co-captains so please don’t attack me for my view.

We will feel his loss more than we realise now.

We all know ( Tigers supporters) how most in the media circle, supporters of other clubs, that Trent isn’t regarded in the top echelon of Captains. Premiership Captains.

In the last 20 plus years I rate him as equal to Voss, Carey , Hodge. ( as premiership captains 2 plus times).

In time , he should be an “Immortal “.

Well we might well see milestones for the both of them on Saturday night.

Trents 300th obviously and Jack will go past KB into outright 3rd on our all time goalkicking records with 1 goal.

He wasn't just denied the glory, but the marketing and merchandise opportunities that come with it. I'm sure we're talking at least 6 figures, probably 7.

So, Chimp becomes #6 in our 300 club. Duz, Grimo and maybe Vloss might reach it in the next 2-5 years. It's sad that some players in our 90s/early 00s teams couldn't reach it: Campbo 297, Richo 282, Knighta 279, Flea 274, Newy 268, Sheeds, B Gale, Lids.

There will be 300 game players even with as many premierships again BUT I guarantee you will never get a player who kicks over 1000 goals, 4th on all time list.

Two completely different players and careers

Looks in great nick atm. 300 is a nice milestone on the way to 400.

Richmond triple premiership captain and Brownlow medallist Trent "Chimp" Cotchin has a lot of work ahead of him. Gawd give him strength.
