Training For 2023

For what it's worth when you play Dr from afar, I'm firmly in the camp of Prestia having completely resolvable issues.

The thing is there aren't many non-modifiable risk factors for hamstrings and the absolute leader of that pack is previous injuries.

If he has a truly non-modifiable factor causing hamstrings like a hip deformity then there's no way he get this far as a professional athlete. Yes, you can get some referred pain from back conditions but these are all highly treatable.

In terms of modifiable factors it's things like hamstring weakness, fatigue, flexibility, and the balance in strength between hamstrings and quads. Then you have things like the strength and coordination of the core.

Your non-modifiable factors are age and previous injuries. Age is a non-issue with Prestia but previous injuries certainly are. If you have a hamstring injury you are much more likely to have another one and so on. That's partly because of the scar tissue that forms each time you damage the muscle but also ecause it is the most reliable indicator of the presence of the non-modifiable factors.

I'll bet every cent I have that Prestia's issue are because of a modifiable factor(s), which is being exacerbated by the non modifiable factor of the previous injuries. So it's a vicious cycle, he has a factor causing him to ping one, which lays down scar tissue and makes the muscle deal with the same factor but with a little less resilience. Ping again and on it goes.

The team around him will be analysing every factor and working to find the right mix in all areas but it is a slow and painful process and there is no magic formula (including calves blood injections which are complete *smile* in my eyes and the eyes of anyone with any regard for proper process of the practice of medicine) so can be one step forward, five back for a long time but I'm sure they will find the right mix at some point.
TBR i think last year he had 3 hamstring strains, his other substitution was getting knocked out.
Is the fact that each one was a strain rather than a serious injury significant in any way, or would you think he is so aware of his hamstring he stops playing before he really pings it?

That's a lot of factors to factor ;)

Unfortunately that may be be more of indictment on Tarrant.
If he cant dominate/outmark Miller then he is in trouble.

Who will step up to replace Tarrant in early 2023?
Balta, with Young/Biggie taking the second tall?

Young is an older player but with plenty of improvement likely as he is relatively new to the game.
On his best days Tarrant is now just too slow to keep up with Miller, and just about anyone else.
Not sure where Biggie is with his football.
Miller being prepared to play in the forward line.
If Soldo is selected to back Nankervis, Miller still likely, as a key position swing man.
Round 1 maybe,
B Broad Balta Grimes
HB Baker Vlastuin Rioli D
C McIntosh Bolton Pickett
HF Cumberland Cotchin Rioli M Jr
F Martin Lynch Riewoldt
R Nankervis Hopper Tarranto
I/C Graham Miller Short Sonsie
Sub Soldo.
Em Clarke Ralphsmith Ross and Young
TBC Gibcus Prestia and Smith.

Prestia won’t be left to carry such a heavy load this season…same with Cotch… that can only be a good thing. I’m sure he will be managed accordingly. I’m more concerned about Lynch and to a lesser extent - Grimes. Can’t afford Lynch to not be at his best for us to be any chance of going all the way again.

Hardly any games from Dusty n Lamblett last year n then the Fridge started gimping around with a turf toe puts a fair sized hole in your midfield capabilities. Bloody surprised we still managed to make the 8 last year our midfield work was so patchy and inconsistent.

Beautiful sunny Sat morning, 8.15am and boys about to hit the track :)
We have umpires too so bound to be some match sim.
Players just come out of the sheds @ 8.35am

Lynch not out there at all.

Rehab:
Prestia
Grimes
Graham
Sonsie
Seth Campbell who I said went off injured last session.
Colina still walking
Gibcus
Kaleb Smith
Banks

That is bloody 11 players:mad::confused:

So today we are relying on 6 VFL top ups plus our 2 train ons to field two teams.

Any chance Colina breaks into a jog or hop today??
What's the issue??

Really only 5 players.
2 with chronic hammy issues
1 with a Toe issue
1 that was unlucky to cop a hammy
1 that the club is scared to give him the all clear that he is ready..

Where does Sonsie fit into this and why have we heard absolutely nothing about him from the club? Personally had him right up there to play round 1 but his chances are probably dwindling as he spends week after week in rehab with no update on why

Sonsie has been 3 weeks in rehab

Sonsie, Brown, Banks. All three haven’t exactly had the best of starts from an injury perspective the last 15 months. Hopefully these niggles resolve themselves soon and they get some clean air.

Still about 5 weeks from the season starting emperor.
While every club wants to have best 22 available for every possible game all year long it's simply never going to happen.
Reckon it might be wisest n way less stressful to at least wait until we head to the starting barrier for the first, to see who's up n about rather than over analysing a couple of barrier jump outs before the carnival even starts up.
