Training For 2023

There are structural problems causing his soft tissue injuries that like Lambert, won’t go away, and will be there forever.

And like Lambert, he will be managed until he can’t be.
They don’t call his m meatball for nothing.
Probably has played a part.

For mine the successful management of senior bodies comes down to whether we get a step up from the next gen of players that should be ready to play 6-12 games a year. Not the responsibility of the new trade-ins. Cotchin, Jack and Prestia need whole blocks of games off - 2 or 3 in a row - a couple of times per season. It's up to Ralpho, Nyuon, Miller, Dow and Ross and co to fill their shoes and give us reasonably equivalent production. Not Hopper and Taranto.
I agree equally as important as the imports x 2 , are that rossy, sonz Hugo mrj and cumbo really press hard to be walk up starts in starting 22

Would appear to me more, match sim, is that case Caesar or biz as usual
It's not just match sim. It seems to be longer sessions and extended (20 mins continuous) of circle/surge work and then match sims. And 3 days a week, Monday, Thursday and Saturday. From my limited viewing it comes across as more training and different workload patterns. My gut feel is that loads are higher.

And equally, I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about his ability to get on the park and his ultimate longevity.
He’s a long way from where Lambo was

Lambo couldn’t train and even bend down and do up his shoe laces at times. You are being a bit alarmist in that comparison imo.

Leave it at that

Ok. If you’ve got better intel than me let’s hear it. I’m only posting what I got from somebody inside of the club and who’s been working with him. I probably shouldn’t have posted it in hindsight.

But again, as I say, if you’ve got something better other than just your personal opinion, let’s hear it.

Who’s calling for an “opinion ban” ?

Your source sounds as if they’ve been on the sauce.

Fair bit of metacognition going on there Red?

She's a pretty quiet old forum,

If opinions lose their currency?

Fwiw, my sauce tells me Grimesy backed himself for the Coleman/brownlow double
You’re either 1) not believing what I’m saying which is fine even if I did reference this and the conversation I had with a Richmond staff member late last season or 2) you think you know better than the people inside our club do.

In respect of 2) that’s also fine, but something other than just a personal opinion would probably strengthen that.

Or maybe it’s just as Scoop mentioned on another thread the other day, PRE Richmond cheer squad myopia again.

Also, she’d be a pretty boring old forum if it were just opinions, and not some inside intel too wouldn’t it ?

No, but if a player plays 19 games in a year as Dion did last year it would have to be a massive deterioration to have him compared to a bloke who had a chronic hip issue like Lambert did.
Time will tell of course.

And from memory, he went down in the first half in 4 of them.

And, if reports are correct from some, is having problems again without having played a game.

We’ll be applying some pretty thorough management to him, that’s obvious. Let’s hope we’re successful.

I’m with Red on this one. I have no intel but to not be participating in any drills the last couple of weeks is alarming. The most physical thing he did on the camp was carry a microphone around.

I expect him to line up Round 1 but I hope we have a mid as an our sub.

Nah he rode a bike. And carried those cement bags on a plank or whatever the hell it was for a while. Probably pulled a shoulder doing that weirdo activity….

For what it's worth when you play Dr from afar, I'm firmly in the camp of Prestia having completely resolvable issues.

The thing is there aren't many non-modifiable risk factors for hamstrings and the absolute leader of that pack is previous injuries.

If he has a truly non-modifiable factor causing hamstrings like a hip deformity then there's no way he get this far as a professional athlete. Yes, you can get some referred pain from back conditions but these are all highly treatable.

In terms of modifiable factors it's things like hamstring weakness, fatigue, flexibility, and the balance in strength between hamstrings and quads. Then you have things like the strength and coordination of the core.

Your non-modifiable factors are age and previous injuries. Age is a non-issue with Prestia but previous injuries certainly are. If you have a hamstring injury you are much more likely to have another one and so on. That's partly because of the scar tissue that forms each time you damage the muscle but also ecause it is the most reliable indicator of the presence of the non-modifiable factors.

I'll bet every cent I have that Prestia's issue are because of a modifiable factor(s), which is being exacerbated by the non modifiable factor of the previous injuries. So it's a vicious cycle, he has a factor causing him to ping one, which lays down scar tissue and makes the muscle deal with the same factor but with a little less resilience. Ping again and on it goes.

The team around him will be analysing every factor and working to find the right mix in all areas but it is a slow and painful process and there is no magic formula (including calves blood injections which are complete *smile* in my eyes and the eyes of anyone with any regard for proper process of the practice of medicine) so can be one step forward, five back for a long time but I'm sure they will find the right mix at some point.

If it's as bad as you are suggesting it could be based on the info u have, then we just need the aim to be to get him right for Finals.

On the Ross/Cotchin training vid he's seen doing the bike ride at the camp. That being the case it can't be too much of a concern atm but that's just wishful thinking from me.
