Training For 2023

The Herald Sun has a write up on their interpretation of yesterday's Match Sim, not sure if it is in both printed and online version.

Dusty and Shai earn high praise.

They are still going with Prestia, Grimes & Hopper on modified programmes, of these Hopper is the only one i know for sure to be true, he does one full session a week and and is eased off in the second one of the week. Hopper had multiple knee surgeries last year so hope all is well, i don't believe i have seen him in re-hab as such so pretty sure he is tracking fine.

Still saying Lynch & Graham to join main group in next two weeks which has been the narrative for about the last 3 weeks.

Anyway if you have access to the HS you may as well take a look.

Unfortunately that may be be more of indictment on Tarrant.
If he cant dominate/outmark Miller then he is in trouble.

Who will step up to replace Tarrant in early 2023?
Balta, with Young/Biggie taking the second tall?

Tarrant will be vital to our chances in 2023, indictment talk is rubbish IMO.

Dunno if we’ll get that many out of him Joking Faces. Think he’s rapidly getting to that Lambo state of broken body.
It's definitely a worry.
One thing to go & get Taranto & Hopper to add to the midfield mix. Quite another if they're only recruited in an attempt to substitute a broken down (proven) Premiership player.
Dion has been so important for us in our Premiership seasons with the way he plays. He's underrated & not easily replaced.
Fingers crossed & praying to the injury gods for his good health.

And that is a modified program, management as opposed to rehab. Which in not what Prestia and others are doing (As you know).

The Herald Sun article also mentions we have been doing drills focussing on bringing pressure back to the ball carrier after we ranked 15th for it last year.

Could put that on the stand rule until you hear a couple of young and hungry teams, Sydney and Collingwood were 1 and 2.

If we don't find that manic effort again then a couple of midfielders aren't going to be the difference.

Its the last dance

Theylle fill him with calfs placenta and hell be sweet for september

There will alot of twists and turns this year.

Or maybe there wont be?

Maybe we wont lose a game until March '24, when the netflix series is released with Dusty drinking anejo tequila from a big crystal tumbler in his snow white surfers penthouse, describing how Cotchy went late onset psychotic and won his 2nd brownlow

So with have some players in rehab (injured)
and some players on modified programs (older with chronic issues)

i believe caesar over the HS any day on which players are in which category

Obviously you would like all the top 22 to have uninterrupted pre seasons but that is not likely

At the moment we have Prestia,, Lynch, Grimes, Graham, and Hopper who have had not had great pre seasons. Also Gibcus and Sonsie. Probably too many for my liking

fitness, conditioning, rehab and luck are so important when you have a Top 4 capable list

If Kaleb Smith is going to be off legs for 6-8 weeks, he won’t be running or playing footy anytime soon… maybe we will move him to the inactive list and pick up both Bradtke and Narkle?
Inactive list is different to the old LTI list. Once you're placed on there you're out for the season.

Is it just me or are the fellas doing a lot more pre season training and more intense training compared to previous years?

If you are placed on the inactive list are you allowed to play VFL football if you are fit before the end of the season

Hi Ceaser, what is your read on Grimes?

Another critical piece to get right, who needs to play all 22 games this year.

Maybe he felt a hamstring twinge or just tight in the hammy after last weeks Monday match sim where he exited late in game?
But that would only be guessing and a guess influenced by past history.
He has been in rehab group Monday and Thursday this week.
Doing a reasonable amount of run through's and a little bit of kick to kick.
We shall find out in the fullness of time.

Very unlikely that will happen at his age and injury history.

We'd all bite our hands off if he plays 18+

We don't need or want our geriatrics playing every week. Getting the old warhorses to race day. I wonder if Bart Hardwick has a plan for that.

For mine the successful management of senior bodies comes down to whether we get a step up from the next gen of players that should be ready to play 6-12 games a year. Not the responsibility of the new trade-ins. Cotchin, Jack and Prestia need whole blocks of games off - 2 or 3 in a row - a couple of times per season. It's up to Ralpho, Nyuon, Miller, Dow and Ross and co to fill their shoes and give us reasonably equivalent production. Not Hopper and Taranto.

Totally different to Lambo who had a chronic hip problem. Prestia doesn’t have a chronic long term injury, he gets soft tissue injuries a lot.
It’s not the same situation. Dion is still the same player when he is fit, Lambo wasn’t.

There are structural problems causing his soft tissue injuries that like Lambert, won’t go away, and will be there forever.

And like Lambert, he will be managed until he can’t be.

The point I was making is that what is different for Prestia is that when Dion is fit he still plays as well as he ever has, he doesn’t have an injury that will stop him performing at a high level when he is on the field.

And equally, I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about his ability to get on the park and his ultimate longevity.
