I dont think that is right. Markov is leaving because he has a better offer. I am pretty confident we would have re-contracted him if we could, but he has made the decision to leave.
I have no doubt we would have wanted to re-contract him, but realistically he would be fighting for a spot against Bachar and Broad. The club turned their attention to signing up these guys as a priority (as they should), and so whilst they would have liked to have kept Oleg he decided his future lay elsewhere.
If we prioritised Oleg over either of these two then he would have been kept. So I do see it as a choice between them - and I think we made the right choice (even though I would have liked to have kept him as well).

Reckon Markov made a mistake leaving as IMO he could have cemented a spot in the team and perhaps got himself a medal. Especially with Houli's ageing calves. Now he has very little chance of a premiership. 2 year deal, get a medal, then get the bigger dollars.

It's irritating other clubs look to be interested at the Pies discards, can't they see they are wanting to get rid of these particular contracted players for a reason.

I'd hate for the Dogs and Roos to bail the Pies out of their salary cap dilemma, especially for 2 suspect players.

Tim English rucking solo all year. Recognise they need support and get Stefan Martin, who'll last 1 year tops. Instead of paying a bit more (in a year they can afford to pay more), for a slightly better ruck who could help for 1-2 years.
I wouldnt even entertain the Dunkley deal. Not only will Essendon drag it out and try and pay unders, the Dogs should back themselves to convince him to stay over these next 2 years. And Essendon are also so scatter gun, they are just as likely to not come back calling for Dunkley next year - having moved onto someone else they try and bribe with an inflated contract. Only to again fall over in putting a fair deal together!

Why would you take Treloar on such a high salary? I don't get it, he is being paid overs because he was paid less over the last couple of years. You don't take on another clubs problem. Maybe they negotiated his salary down.
