Trade talk 2019/20

Saints have offered a future 2nd rounder for Higgo. We've told them to get nicked. I reckon we'll do a swap. Their 2021 1st rounder for Higgo and the GC 2021 3rd rounder we got for Markov.

Its an ok starting point, shows they aren't in the wrong stratosphere.

It'll come down to Higgo, I suspect he won't ask to leave until he knows they are willing to give up enough to get him.

The suggestion you have isn't far off, a 1st for Higgo and Markov in a strong draft is a decent return for the 2 of them being as we need to drop at least 1 of them due to list size reductions.

I still think we need to move our 2nd this year somehow too so it will be interesting to see what we do with that.

If the Saints need a 2nd this year (for list spots) then I'd be comfortable using that instead of GC's 3rd next year. Saints 1st for Higgo (next year) and our 2nd I think is fair. Not sure they will want to give their 1st up for next year though so we'll have to see how far they go and if Higgo requests a trade. If he requests 1 I expect us to trade him but get a good deal back.

I am glad we told them to stick it.

Essendon holding up alot of trades it seems. Saad and Fantasia not worth first rounders. strange that dunkley leaving the dogs for culture issues and choosing to go to essendon.
650k makes bad culture disappear

If Anastasia is worth pick 16, then Higgins is worth 2 top 10 picks

Effectively that would be Higgins and Markov for the Saintd 1st round pick next year. That could be a real win for us especially if the Saints don't make finals.

Very much doubt we will get their 2021 1st rounder though.

What a waste of time, most of these clubs have had over a month to work out deals and now with 3 days to go, dodododo once again is holding other clubs up.
If the AFL dosent introduce a mediator to sort the trades out. This is going to become a week of constant delays and speculation.
Trade week was once exciting and a week of dreams. Now it's who can back door the other.
Give them a week and that’s it.
I know the AFLs reasoning but if you have club(s) holding others up it’s just.....
As usual there will be a mad rush last 24 hours.

You have that "what if" with every position, the next guy in is not as good (yet) otherwise they would have been in the team in the first place, no team ever has a "first" 44.
Still not an answer. Markov was in the team until Houli returned. Whether he has another year or two in him is moot. Maybe, or could end abruptly too.

Lego's been in the system for a fair bit longer than Stacka, Eggs n Naishy and he's come up short every year as well. Plays maybe around five senior games a year as an emergency hole filler then disappears back to the Magoos when the regular senior players return from injury / suspension. After five years in an AFL system, not sure Lego's going to improve beyond hole filler within a top four list. Could become a regular moderate player within a lesser team.

Raw talent / footy smarts Stacka's got more in his big toe than Lego's got in his entire body. Stacka's just had a fairly disjointed upbringing n needs to grow n develop some professional maturity, there's plenty of players been in the AFL system five to ten years n still struggle with this aspect.

Reckon Eggsy was fairly composed and organised in his half dozen games earlier this year. If you consider that both Eggsy n Lego were in for half a dozen games each with similar output n Eggsy has had a lot less development time and opportunity than Lego, then I'd think that Eggsy would be more likely to develop and improve further than Lego would.

Naishy still a baby in footy terms yet managed to crack it for a couple of senior games. Still gotta learn to play footy like a Richmond man, there's a handful of youngsters along with Naishy who've missed a whole year of VFL footy where they should've been learning their match day roles. Again, you'd hold him over Lego for the probable future development.
A detailed and well-considered answer and deserves a similar reply which I will give tonight. Just flat out today; so only doing some quickie responses now. :)

If the deal isn’t right for Higgins, keep him.
I so hope we dont give him away for Unders. He is a good player and he is contracted. It needs to be a 1st Round next year, not 2nd. Second next year will be in the 30s.

In the same year as Higgo was drafted at 17, Geelong drafted Lachlan Fogarty with their first selection, 22 in the 2017 draft.
Lets see how well the Cats trade him to the Blues vs us with Higgo. Its as close to like for like as you can get.

BUCKENARA: POLEC COULD BE TRADE STEAL FOR TIGERS

Richmond isn’t a big player in this year’s trade period but a speedy Kangaroo would be a perfect fit and could come cheap, says Gary Buckenara.

We managed to cover Rance in 2019. I think we can cover Markov in 2021.

But if need be we will spend the H&A season working out our best finals team.

I don't think you have told us how we should have kept an uncontracted player who wanted to leave?
A quality job at evading my question. Credit due.

I think RFC is really smart these days and seeks to develop a replacement for every first-22 AFL player ( shadow player). We selected an absolutely brilliant young KPP who has been able to even fit into our backline plugging the gap left by Alex the Great. Amazing how well this has turned out thus far.

I am not trying to make Markov a big deal; I simply thought he was our most promising 'shadow' HBF in '20. Understandably he wanted to leave for more opportunity and security I'd say. I think we would have liked to keep him but the new restrictions make it really tough (and a $100k fine to the SC that he had no blame for!) Houli returned fairly well and wants to go on. That makes it hard too.

But could have been done easily. It's just who you decide to keep. Whether they merit it or not, is an open question.

Oh we just found a replacement for Oleg. I fast, overpaid, outside flanker with no heart to replace someone with athleticism, speed, and difficulty maintaining fitness but lots of heart who is significantly cheaper.

I know who I'd rather have.

Where does he think he'd even play??

He's not our type of wingman. These guys in the media still seem to think that our wingers are crap as they don't get as much of the ball as others, and that just backs up why they don't understand why we are so good.

Kmac just finished 5th in the B&F, Polec is not coming into replacing him, so that leaves Marlion. I highly doubt a soft outside type comes in and replaces someone like Marlion who just does the team thing every time. I'm not fond of the ball in his hands, but the stuff he does off the ball is really important. I wasn't keen early in the year but the more and more I've seen the more I've seen his value and don't see Polec coming in and doing that job.

Would play in the VFL for us, so therefore whats the point.

He butchers the ball at best.

Buckenara obviously trying to sabotage our three-peat!
