Trade talk 2019/20

Loved when Rioli nailed him in a Dreamtime.
It was all about Saad and his little legs until Dan swooped.
If I remember correctly, Saad nailed Daniel's arse earlier in the game n then Daniel returned the favour later. One all draw for mine.

They are throwing them away and buying up half back flankeries
Funny thing about half back flankers recently.
Bash was second best on ground in two Granny's, just behind the incomparable Dusty.
JayJo the Doggies HBF actually won the Normie in 2016.

A decent half back wanker b serious important can opener when you want to rip up an opposition side.

Essendon can't afford to have another shocking kick in their midfield to partner Shiel. Dunkley better kick than turnover king Treloar IMO.

You seem very confident about that. Stack, Naish and DES were all tried there this year. Every one of them came up short (Or not! But no pun intended!). All failed.

I've posed this question to others claiming Oleg is no loss, but haven't seen an answer yet. So we lose one of our Premiership HBFs or wingmen 1st round next year with a LTI, who has your full confidence to replace them immediately?

You need VFL games to "teach them how to defend well enough." Something no one got in '20. If you say Stack, take a LOL now.
We managed to cover Rance in 2019. I think we can cover Markov in 2021.

But if need be we will spend the H&A season working out our best finals team.

I don't think you have told us how we should have kept an uncontracted player who wanted to leave?

Lego's been in the system for a fair bit longer than Stacka, Eggs n Naishy and he's come up short every year as well. Plays maybe around five senior games a year as an emergency hole filler then disappears back to the Magoos when the regular senior players return from injury / suspension. After five years in an AFL system, not sure Lego's going to improve beyond hole filler within a top four list. Could become a regular moderate player within a lesser team.

Raw talent / footy smarts Stacka's got more in his big toe than Lego's got in his entire body. Stacka's just had a fairly disjointed upbringing n needs to grow n develop some professional maturity, there's plenty of players been in the AFL system five to ten years n still struggle with this aspect.

Reckon Eggsy was fairly composed and organised in his half dozen games earlier this year. If you consider that both Eggsy n Lego were in for half a dozen games each with similar output n Eggsy has had a lot less development time and opportunity than Lego, then I'd think that Eggsy would be more likely to develop and improve further than Lego would.

Naishy still a baby in footy terms yet managed to crack it for a couple of senior games. Still gotta learn to play footy like a Richmond man, there's a handful of youngsters along with Naishy who've missed a whole year of VFL footy where they should've been learning their match day roles. Again, you'd hold him over Lego for the probable future development.

Totally agree T-mas on their importance.
Dont forget Shorty was 2nd best on in the last Granny. Massive mileage on the day.

Mcleod was doing it 25 years ago, Wanganeen nearly 30. No doubt you,ll name others from earlier times!
Crucial to winning flags

But we know most HBF are not the complete player.
So its what you pay and when.
Use a top 10 for a well rounded mid who is balanced inside and out. Or a footballing tall.
Get your flankers in the later Rounds or rookie.

And its easier to develop them instead of paying through the nose.
Carlton? Tried with Petrovski Seton. But theyve also played Kade Simpson onto his pension instead of preparing a replacement.

Haaarrrrrgh. Yesterday n last week are fairly hazy n " earlier days " is just a grey miasma of uncertainty.

Agree with developing your own flankers from mid to late picks but more than happy for Carlscum to spend a fortune on Williams n Saad.

Brodders, the point about losing Markov isn't about whether we are able to cover him or not, its the prospect of falling into the pattern of losing young developing players while keeping the ageing ones. Not just this year but in the following years too.

The saving grace is that I trust Blair and his men to be on top of it anyway.

Me too, but I thought the weird Blues list management stuff walked out with SOS. I really don't get dropping so much money on a couple of back flankers, even if it is a big part of your gameplan moving forward.

..the guy is 20x the player RCD or Ross will ever be.

LOL, he has had what... 8 years in the system? What has he achieved that makes him the amazing player you espouse?

IMO, he is one of those 'low value for every dollar' players and I'm glad Blair is steering clear of him.

Agree

Markov leaving means the next best Houli replacement is gone, will be missed

DES got bog in one game before running out of juice. Was his early or late form the true indication of his ability? That’s the question and how much improvement he has from that base.

Sure in the short term but who would have thought even 18 months ago how Short and Baker would have come on? All of Short, Baker and Houli came into the system as midfielders or forwards and I would assume that the club will be developing others for that spot.
We can't keep them all unfortunately
