Think you'll find that's a satirical mock-up.

royce67 said:Big day for Roycey. Chris Symons came through very nicely twice. Couple of other winners and nice trifecta to start the day. Only got second in the cup or it would have been a near record... Odds of returning it all back next week. 100-1 on.

Im pretty sure he wouldnt profit from winning Cups (6 times 2m plus some plunges wouldnt cover his expenses no way)
So I dont have any problem with him winning Cups.
My query is how the handicapper keeps going easy on him.
Rekindling pushed Order of St.George (who could carry 60kg and win The Cup by 5 lengths) to 4 lengths, but carries 50kg?
Admittedly, I dont understand handicapping very well, but its NOT WFA right? so why does a very well accomplished 3yo get a feather weight in a handicap?
Note: not sour grapes, i only bet loose change on the cup, and I backed the winner (for the place ), so this is not altogether hindsight insight.
tigerman said:easy, Rekindling beat the handicapper by being a European three year old. Their birth date is the 1st of January, ours is the 1st of August, he'd be a four year old if he was born here.
The best i could do was second in a sweep

LeeToRainesToRoach said:Agree that he beat the handicapper, but by virtue of being lightly raced. That seems to be the type of international best suited to the race. The handicapper has had the measure of those with proven records in big overseas races.

Where once it was a regular thing for 3yo's to run (and win), think Stylish Century was the last of the locals to attempt it. Carried 47 or 48kg after destroying the Derby field and was distanced.

Tony Braxton-Hicks said:I don't begrudge Lloyd. It's his passion, he targets just the one race and trains his horses throughout the year with just the one race in mind. Would have been handy on the Tigers board all those years ago.
scottyturnerscurse said:I don't begrudge him spending his cash anyway he likes. How he made his millions is another matter.
At least with Rekindling, unlike his past two winners, he bought it as a yearling.
He is the best in the business at the caper. Go ask OTI racing. Donuts after nearly 20 years of trying.

tigersnake said:anyone can do it....if they've accessed billions via dodgy casino licence tenders granted by his old mates.
LeeToRainesToRoach said:Ah, you're right jb. Won four on the trot and carried 47.5kg.
Was just trying to say that Rekindling wasn't done any favours because of his age. The handicapper is obligated to treat his as a 4yo and is influenced by the time-honoured WFA scale. But his race form would've taken precedence.
jb03 said:On its age and form i think Rekindling was probably fairly weighted. They shouldn't really go on about European ages of horses.
