How's that jockey who punched that poor horse in the stomach with an uppercut only get 2 weeks?

Low act.

Watched the footage again. The horse actually reacts.

Looks like he got it with the whip end. That would hurt. Shouldn't be allowed to work with animals with such a cruel streak and lack of self control.

Heard Mark Fine last night saying that although the horse flinched, the punch wouldn't have hurt. Don't know whether it would've hurt or not, but he was clearly attempting to bait the professionally outraged.

Jockey deserved to punished for a lack of self-control at the least. Very bad look for the industry as well, more so at this time of year.

Urban Ruler continued my glorious (not) punting over the carnival with an average 6th yesterday. He has now had 4 second up runs and never ran a place - do you think I would learn from that? Definition of an idiot - doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. Apologies to any who lost their hard earned. Does go alright third up though - said the eternal optimist.

Have to rewatch all 3 finals tonight to get back in a positive mood for the last day of the carnival tomorrow.

Like Liten in my Veins (race 4) and Cliffs Edge in the "old McKinnon (race 8)

dont be so hard on yourself 44.

everyone knows it user beware with punting recommendations.

Its a tough spring.

I think the bookies will be buying new mercedes coupes for christmas

taking the same approach. having a finals tigerthon tonight to try regain enough optimism to read the form.

Ive picked 1 winner in 5 weeks, and i backed it the place :p

the only positive I can see is I read the signs pretty early (the form seemed to be written in a foreign language I had never seen), and lowered my max bet drastically.

Hard to work it out - I thought UR was very disappointing.

Agree JB extremely disappointing but his second up record is terrible and he confirmed that! Still waiting on the litany of excuses from the stable.

My carnivale terribilus continued into Stakes Day but at the end of the Carnival we were still reigning premiers so all is good in the world.

I was on him too, it was probably the second up syndrome, but also i thought that Shinn went for a rails ran just as the leader got a stitch which cost him a bit of momentum.
He's a good horse, do you think he prefers a bit of room, ie coming down the outside?

Yes Tigerman he is much better outside horses. Shinn did go for a run inside the leader which closed on him (or UR wasn't forceful enough to take the run) so did cost him some momentum BUT he had plenty of time and opportunity once rebalanced to gain some ground and just plodded to the line. Was only beaten a couple of lengths but would have been better to make ground and lose by a length or so and then we could all lament the "what ifs". My view is that he just loses a little second up and then improves in his next run or two.

Still not sure when that will be.

Gallic Chieftain and Beau Geste at Sandown tomorrow, State Solicitor and Mikimoto at Ascot.

I get to have a bet in a G1 in perth on Saturday, and for those that like a long-shot, you may want to join me.

Durandel in the sprint. I got 50-1.

why can he win?

last start 2nd up, it flew home for a neck 3rd to State Solicitor, which is $3 favourite for this race and Durandel meets it 2.5kg better off.

Durandel is no world beater, but rather a tough G3 sprinter.

but this field is possibly the flimsiest G1 field ive ever seen. its a G3 field.

but wait, theres more.

when he was in Melbourne, Durendel was schooled by Matthew Ellerton, who to my mind, trains a disproportionate number of winners down the 6 furlong straight.

The sprint at Ascot on saturday, if im not mistaken, is down a 6 furlong straight.

Usual disclaimer: ive been horrendously out of form on the horses, but im first up after a spell, which can sometimes produce unexpected performances. Each-way all the way. :fing32

Ha re: first up.

Ascot is round a bend, but wouldnt let that turn you off if you like it.

Like you said it is a G3 field.

thanks Leysy. my mistake. ive never really punted Ascot seriously. im always either broke, or in spa eating lobsters with a gorgeous nude blonde by the time they start.

the straight 6 was pretty crucial to my plan, but too late to turn back now.

Im aboard EW at 50's

Dunno where else to post this. its not racing, but its four legged animals and odds.

this calving season, the first 13 calves to hit the ground have been bulls.

the odds of that happening are 8192/1.

It a far longer shot than us going undefeated at The G next year

A bull run. Literally. I think its an omen. :don't know
