Thoroughbred racing

I don't really get the point of that. I think you're either missing the point or being deliberately obtuse Leysy. It's not the use of animals but how they are treated that concerns a lot of people. Of course there are always exceptions but show dogs and guinea pigs aren't whipped to perform. They aren't forced to perform while completely exhausted. You can't say either of those things about racehorses. I know from when I used to ride track work that some horses are lovingly treated and respected but plenty are flogged and mistreated and often die cruel deaths.

My "morally can't support racing" comment was based on the fact I abhor cruelty to animals. I can see vanity in showing dogs but I can't see any vanity in how I feel about racing these days, despite what L2 and spook reckon. It can be a corrupt, cruel and heartless endevour.

Gotta agree with you Rosy. And that doesn't begin to get into the drugs and supplements that are used (both legally and illegally). The Cup is a handicap so on top of the jockey and the whip (they didn't call Cassidy pumper because of his physique) there is added weight all born by the horse. I'm no purist and I bet occasionally and I love going to the track but I refuse to pretend that that makes me a friend of the horses. That smacks of post rationalisation.

I read a story about a Red Cadeux's jockey being upset by the injury, I'd be interested to know if he spared the whip during the ride? They talk about being "horse people" and I'm sure they think they are. But I think it is an intellectual dodge to argue that they "love" to run and are bred to run and wouldn't "exist" otherwise. It is a meaningless statement to talk about their life being preferable to never having existed. How the hell do you measure that?

Of course they love to run. Watch the horse accompanying the clerk of the course to the barriers next time you're at the track. Chances are it'll be nudging the neck of the clerk's horse - horse speak for "Hurry up, get on with it!".

Of course horses love to run. They do it in their paddocks for fun. I don't think they like being whipped and flogged and abused and all the mistreatment so many suffer in the racing industry though.

Did any PRE-punters tip winners over the weekend? Before they raced. ;D

I had no luck Willo, I thought I was on a good thing, it was 10 to 1.
The bugger was still running at half past one. ;D

I expect the fees keep being charged irregardless of success, lack thereof.
If Dimma was the trainer he'd be sacked chopped and repackaged as fresh meat.
Maybe he's not that interested in running fast, your horse,
needs an off season in the gym under the mullet Evan

Selling my 5% share in racehorse if anyone is keen, message me.
Provincial horse, 2 wins from 17 starts
Darren Weir.
Fees are $48 a week.

Having three more runs this prep then only $14 a week for 3 months in paddock and back for weaker races in the winter.

Will probably only win a couple more but a bit of fun if someone wants to get involved.
$1100.

Good day at Caufield yesterday. Free entrance on Tiger membership, relaxed family racing and some good horses/results.

Mahuta and Tuscan Sling have been paying off of late.

Politeness and Lucky Hussler hurt a bit yesterday but have been pretty good for the account overall.

Normally the only bet i have between autumn and spring is on the stradbroke.
its a great, and tricky race thats been throwing up a roughie the last few winters.
With that in mind, i took some of Precious Gem EW @ 50s at the Tabulum Tote this morning.

Walked in a bit late to my local yesterday, looked up at the boards saw numbers 4 an 5 both starting with C , so threw $10 on the quinella , got distracted by a local bloody North supporter, missed the race, caught the result...$375 later ;D, omen betting sure beats thinking about it

Hi there

I am just wondering if anyone knows the following trainers full names please for a horse racing database project I am doing.

T.Bailey who trained Miss Haughty in 1989 Flight Stakes
JR Davis who trained Chamfa in 1985 Moir Stakes (may have being based in Pakenham ot Cranbourne)
AJ Douglas who trained High Equity in 1988 Wakeful and VRC Oaks
DJ Gladman who trained Josrafi in 1984 Queen of the turf
JF Harris who trained Suttle Knight in 1984 Herbert Power (may have being based in Epsom)
JR Higgins who trained Coringle Cottage in 1984 Lightning Stakes
FC Hill who trained Super Taj in 1983 Waterford Crystal Mile (based at Caulfield)
FD Hill who trained Crown Jet in 1985 Norman Robinson and
Na Botto in 1990 Sandown Cup and 1991 Herbert Power (may have being based at Epsom)
C Murdoch in 1972 Caulfield cup trained Ahjay
JF O' Reilly who trained Fair Warning in 1976 Melbourne Cup
AG Porter who trained Stargwyni in 1984 AJC Oaks
AT Rae who trained Lenka's Choice in 1986 Australia Guineas
MJ Robins who trained Celestial Motion in 1985 Caulfield Guineas (maybe for sale)

Jockey E Carter who rode Windy Minx in 1986 underwood stakes (I believe from Albury)

I have contacted various racing clubs and looked up trove etc and at state library and found plenty of answers but these ones have alluded me. Any help would be greatly appreciated

This http://ehorseracing.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=8281&PN=1 might've been the F.D.Hill based at Epsom. No mention of Na Botto who I'm pretty sure only had the one trainer (Peter Hollinshead). Might've been some sort of regulations involved where the horse had to be registered with a local trainer for a short period. Tough questions!

Thanks L2R2R

I have put Frank for Crown Jet

Trove had Hollinshead for 1990 Melbourne Cup but then Hill for races after, so unsure how that works. I do see he is owner throughout and other races Richard OTTO had Na Botto but they may have being in partnership in New Zealand.

Thanks for your help though

This site lists Hollinshead as the trainer at Sandown and Caulfield

http://www.breednet.com.au/stakes-race-results/stakesResults.asp?mdate=17/11/1990&v=SANDOWN&r=6
http://www.breednet.com.au/stakes-race-results/stakesResults.asp?mdate=12/10/1991&v=CAULFIELD&r=8&race=Herbert+Power+Hcp

He had a training partnership with Otto from mid 1988 to early 1991.

That website has had some inaccuries between it and Racing Australia website but I suspect it is Hollinshead and the hose may have being at Frank Hill stable.
