As there is some interest on this thread this is from the trainer....
Glass Harmonium (IRE) (Verglas (IRE)/Spring Symphony (IRE)):
Glass arrived in Sydney early Thursday morning and Michael reports he has settled in extremely well. Enjoyed his little freshen up and his jump out 2 weeks ago was very good. He has galloped brilliantly this week and all is on target for him to give the Doncaster tomorrow a big shake. This is a strong field as you would expect but they will all be chasing him as Michael will instruct Steven to lead and catch me if you can tactics. The track at the moment is rated a dead 5 but more rain is forecast and the likely prospect of a wet Doncaster which won't disadvantage our horse. In an open race his main dangers look to be the fairer sex in 11,12,13 & 14.

ran like a 100/1 shot and steven arnold should go to the tactical 101 course and sit beside Damien Hardwick

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Stiff, tgw. Gh misses the kick every other week and Arnold takes no part in any race for the first 400m. But they had combined brilliantly for two starts, leading. Two rogues flying. Both got up to their old tricks when it mattered. FWIW if they'd jumped, well, a drum, a win or thereabouts, I reckon.

My bloke (Happy Trails) didn't handle the wet. Oh I watched the BOM. Seven day forecast updated daily. A few showers. A shower or two. Windy. Looking good. The jockey told us Friday from Kenso it would be heavy. Que? WTF? A shower > Heavy?

It was Heavy. I got seriously *smile* winged. Biggest bet ever, just wanted a dead track.

Once the rain came I had two roughies to win. Pierro must run second at worst. And hated the filly. Ouch. Like, ouch.

The 3yos trifected it.

See y'all in the spring.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Singo withdraws all his horses from Gai's stable. Pissed off with confilct of interest issues with her bookie son. Tom very much on back foot, good stuff.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

As long as he follows through. Has had blues with Gai before and patched it up. If Stewards find something astray losing Singos stable must be lest of her problems. Having said that More Joyous is on a decline from a very high mountain but a decline nonetheless.
Only trouble now with Australian racing is finding class 4 year olds still racing that can be competitive wf a. The distance races are at mercy of imports and any quality 3 yo has gone to stud or is off overseas eg Guelph will be next to go.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Singo's public sacking of Gai has sparked an inquiry into 'conflicting interests'. What amazes me is that it has'nt been looked at sooner. Both in terms of the relationship, mother and son, and also the family history.

They showed footage of the spat yesterday on TV, and I swear Gai gave Singo a decent hip and shoulder as she left.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Interesting that Singleton knew nothing about the concerns they had about MJ, yet his vet and racing manager inspected the horse.

Lack of communication at Strawberry Hill?

Good on you RFC not KFC, I don't know what I am going to do now that Black Caviar has been retired. She has been very good to me, I have cleaned up on trifectas and first fours.

She was remarkably kind to me in the multis too. The half brother factor was what made me take all too hard ahead of more joyous.

I love seeing these types turn on each other. Ive been waiting for someone to take Little Tommy down a couple of pegs. Bought time, the little smart arse with generations of cheatin' in his blood.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Not trying to lecture anyone, but a mate is having marriage problems due to gambling. I suggested he talk to someone, get some counselling. He shook his head and said 'nah stuff that'. 'Can't hurt pal'. I said and left it. Anyway, that was friday, he went to his first session Monday and got a lot out of it. He thought about what I said, in the tote saturday, saw the helpline on the bottom of a tote ticket. Rang them, they booked him in locally for Mon arvo, he went and said it was a real help, and all free! He's got a spring in his step which I haven't seen for ages, time will tell, but I was rapt. I was a bit stunned actually, I've tried to get family to get help and failed.

Also good because his wife was talking about booting him out and he was angling for my spare room ;D.

Good punting though RFC, thats your one biggie I'd reckon. Enjoy it and try not to give it back.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

At the Warrnambool May race meeting. If you like attending races put this on your bucket list as it is a great three days.

If your mate was struggling with gambling I'm glad he may have found some help.

I'm fortunate to be in a healthy financial position and punt almost exclusively on quaddies and Big6 when there's a jackpot, weekends and holiday entertainment. Not chasing money, chasing the glory of picking horses better than my mates and the clowns who provide tips in the daily papers. My wife was rather excited about the cash on Saturday but I'm more impressed with picking Umgeton and Serene Star.
I only developed an interest in the horses a couple of years ago and was amazed at how people blindly follow the market and the aforementioned clowns.
Quaddies have paid for my share in the Darwin Donkey, aka A City Girl and I can happily report that with 6 starts for us including 2 wins, 2 seconds and a third it's been a joy to get more involved.

Great punting that KFC. Well done.

Its a good point snake. you gotta be careful on the punt. The race of the heart at the 200, the odd fistful of bookies money, the feeling of being smarter than every other dumb bastard. Its addictive for sure. When i was a young man, i was working in kalgoolie clearing the equilvalent of $2K a week with no commitments. I knew I had a problem when I had lost a fortnights pay before 10am one saturday (3 hour behind in the west, you can get on the first in melbourne over breaky). Me and maurice rioli strangely. The next couple of weeks of self loathing in my donga was enough to wake me up that I had the genetic loading, the personality, the upbringing to do the lot and end up drinking sherry from a brown bag, living in a half way house and scraping together a buck to have a go on the Dapto dogs. I think its like smack. The addiction never goes, you just control it. Ive got a few strategies in place. I punt on the horses in spring, on the tigers about 5 times a year and restrict myself to betting more than I can afford to lose (which gives the best rush, for better or worse, obviously) only once a year. Im on top of it.

again, a good point to raise snakester, especially for young tigers out there and especially with that little poonce waterhouse's face everywhere trying to get a slice of your hard-earned. Life is a punt, and being able to weigh the odds, do a quick cost benefit analyses and have a go is a good life skill. fortune favours the brave after all. BUT, you gotta be smart and measured about it. make some not-negotiable rules for yourself. Its like having a line of coke at the christmas party.

edit: Tigers @ $3 might just be my little annual treat . I'll have a think about it, apply my checks and balances and see.

edit 2: I dont want to be flippant about a big issue, but ive got to tell a funny story thats very relevant. My family has had a lean year fiscally speaking. Theres light at the end of the tunnel, but its been as tight as can be. The other day, the senate took the unusual measure of looking over our Visa statement and saw a $50 withdrawal for Xbet in Darwin and she said to me "you didnt really gamble $50, when we couldnt afford groceries did you?". I replied "Yes, I had $50 on the tigers to beat footscray by 60+, thats how the electricity bill got paid" It was a funny one, because (1) I didnt have a leg to stand on and i responded in a commensurate style BUT (2) I was telling the truth and so the senate kind of didnt know what to say. :don't know

I used to love going. A fun atmosphere. I didn't like seeing horses put down so lost my desire to go.

I had 3 bets yesterday, on the jockey not the horse. Bradley was very kind to me. 2 of them won at good odds.

I had 2 winners but one at $11 which set my day up.

Also a great story behind it. I love grassroots racing.

Gotta love Gai saying Singo was probably drunk and that he had a reputation for drinking too much. The girl has spirit and a touch of derring do.

Didn't mind singo's response to the question from Tom.
Tom asks Singo "did you have anything to drink on the day John? Singo says "I had 2 or 3 before the race and as much as I could afterwards"

Reckon it shows Gai as a bit 2-faced - happy to have a wealthy client supplying quality horses over decades, paying good money (for a top trainer mind you). Now he's a nasty old drunk. Talk about loyalty.

A bit of an issue with her record keeping as well, the treatment register for More Joyous was not kept up to date, 2 treatments given to her during the week not recorded.

Saw some vision of Tom leaving the inquiry, is that smile of his painted on? Reminds me of the Joker.

Do you have a bit of a pro-Singo bias? I couldn't care less about the outcome really. I liked the drunk retort though and don't see it as the least bit two faced. It was given as a possible explanation for Singo's out of line public attack and accusations. It was a virtual character assassination that publicly questioned Gai's integrity as a person and a trainer. Sounds reasonable to me for her to question such erratic behaviour and doesn't necessarily reflect on their previous relationship. Singo's alleged sources aren't exactly providing support for his claims by their refusal to appear.

I don't know the law about reporting treatments. Gai should get a big rap over the knuckles if she didn't follow proper procedure. The horse was passed fit by vets though, including Singo's own vet. Seems to be a communication breakdown. How would Tom know the horse couldn't win if the owners vet examined the horse and didn't even see a problem? He's a bookmaker who supposedly backed the horse himself...albeit a bookmaker with a dazzling smile.
