Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Glass Harmonium prepost in the Doncaster represents a HR/HR opportunity @ 70-1

why?

will strip fit 3rd up
everyone could be so worried about Pierro, in what the market says is a 1 horse race, that they could avert their gaze from GH, who will be bowling along out front
Its last run in the Aussie 2nd up over 2000 was gutsy. didnt go backwards when they headed him.
3rd up over a mile is my dad's (unequivocally the most successful punter I know) most enduring system.

So have a little slice EW @ 70's. You cant really lose because in 15 days you will have balanced your books and your forward looking investment will seem like a tony abbott policy launch on the 7.30 report.

EOS cricket trip this weekend, lots of punting happening. Have put this one in the memory bank. Not a lot of risk at 70's.

depends if you put next months rent on r2 :hihi

Snake took a slice at 100/1 on qtab so hes about $600 up on me already. Worth passing the hat around the bus for loose gold and having a punt at those odds r2. You could end up buying a strike bowler from jamaica for next season. (hey where did the icon with the afro go?)

That emoticon would be particularly dear to your heart wouldn't it? Yep got on Q State TAB $10 to $1010 W and $5 to $130. See how we go TGW! Hopefully he has finally grown a brain.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Good luck with the GH, gents, That's some value there.

OK. I've been into this Donny for over a month now. Very keen on the race.

Mahisara is close to missing a start but runs in the Prelude on Satdee. $5 for that race, 100/1 for the Donny. I'll probably have a third trim at him at the 100s. Poor run in the New(castle)market but Craig is still on board. May be set for Brisbane but it looks to me like either an undisclosed setback or a hick trainer's masterplan for the Doncaster. Untested at the mile but all glamour. On the minimum.

The Gyps and I have been hitting Happy Trails for a couple of weeks now. Still 25/1. We will keep at this one.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Seems strange. beat the best in a canter. If she was mine, id keep going till she ran 2nd. 35 34 1 0 still looks pretty good and youde get an extra 5 mill in the kick. Can you ruin the breeding potential other than breaking her neck?

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Shame we wont see her final run knowing its her last.

Caught most by suprise, only after the race Sat Moody said she's racing the best she has & could have another 12 months or more on her.

Smart move. Will go down as the greatest.

From a financial aspect very smart Tooheys. The appeal of her breeding has gone through the roof the past 12 months with All too Hard being a star & the breeding season starts b4 Spring Carnival. Her younger bro fetched 5 mill just last week so imagine what Black Caviars first foal will get....Far more than she will earn on the track in the next 12 months.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Good idea by Moody. Just find the fastest stallion to mate with Black Caviar and they might produce some jet foals. ;D

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

It's for the best. The story couldn't have been improved without the risk of running in a handicap or going back to Ascot, and she could only go downhill as a 7yo. Glad she raced in my lifetime!

Few of the great mares who did a lot of racing have been successful at stud.

Yep. Reckon that played a part in this decision.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I dont get breeding at all. A makybe diva - lonrho filly went for $200K at he inglis sales. Even if she was a slow runt, surely a slice of those genetics is worth more than that?

The connections have said there is no way the progeny will be sold. Peter Moody will keep training for them.

It's been a pleasure to follow such a special horse. BC I salute you.

Not an expert, but "conformation" is important - the combination of balance, bone & muscle structure, ease of movement and just having everything in proportion. Buyers assess these things as the horse parades in the sale ring. $200K seems very cheap; it's likely it had what was perceived to be a major flaw. Doesn't always work, e.g. Tulloch suffered from a sway back (curvature of the spine)...

Makybe Diva's been to a few top stallions already and produced nothing of note AFAIK. Desert Gold, Tranquil Star, Flight, Wenona Girl, Leilani, Emancipation, Let's Elope, Sunline - other famous racemares who didn't pass on their ability at stud.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

As LTRTR said there are many other physical factors.

The biggest thing ILO is not just the performance but the actual breeding and known offspring of the horse of the horse. Makybe Diva's family is not particularly well related, she has produced nothing of note herself, she was a stayer in a sprinters market & Lonhro whilst a solid sire doesnt generally attract the big money.

All these combined means the horse might actually have been over valued. ;D

Black Caviar is a sprinter from a family that is all the rage. Anything to do with her mum Helsinge is going for anything ATM. As long as the horse has good confirmation the above alone will guarantee a bonza price early doors. From there it will be subject to change depending on how BC's offspring perform.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

As there is some interest on this thread this is from the trainer....
Glass Harmonium (IRE) (Verglas (IRE)/Spring Symphony (IRE)):
Glass arrived in Sydney early Thursday morning and Michael reports he has settled in extremely well. Enjoyed his little freshen up and his jump out 2 weeks ago was very good. He has galloped brilliantly this week and all is on target for him to give the Doncaster tomorrow a big shake. This is a strong field as you would expect but they will all be chasing him as Michael will instruct Steven to lead and catch me if you can tactics. The track at the moment is rated a dead 5 but more rain is forecast and the likely prospect of a wet Doncaster which won't disadvantage our horse. In an open race his main dangers look to be the fairer sex in 11,12,13 & 14.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Nice report, EtR. tgw will be chuffed. (I'll have to put the old fraud in my tris.)

Heavy 8 at Randwick. Nyair. Not ideal for my bloke (Happy Trails) although the Gyps reckons he might be a swimmer. Schoefield was "excited" about his chances before the rain.

The funny thing about the race is that there are quite a few running with zero exposed heavy track form. The filly and mares love it and after the colt they'll fill the next lines of betting. FWIW Secret Admirer, a non winner, will be the roughest but strangely the one that is most likely to fill a hole IMO. And Streama is, to my mind, a very different proposition ridden back in the field.

I can do nothing but lay a 3yo filly in the race. And because Appearance keeps beating mares, but not by much, if she wins the males are no good*.

Hughie reckons Shoot Out "skates".

I was interested in Aeronautical on a dead track but looks like he'll faint in the damp so my roughies now are LiteintheNite and Sacred Falls. Big numbers (18 and 19) for trifecta value. Of course, each will be handled by a bloke who'd give a bike a sore back but anything short of literal slaughter may prove good riding on this track today.

Ethiopia has had a bizarre preparation - none at all. If he wins by a neck he should have won by five.

* The colt is not no good. Pierro is a topliner and all racehorse. Reminds me a bit of Manikato but fully gets the mile as a 3yo. He loves the mud and whatever beats him will win. I expect him to settle back as he did last start when he'd have been much better off outside the lead. That ride was no accident. Blowing wrongly IMO.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Bottom weights have a good record in the Doncaster. I got $81 fixed odds during the week on Lightinthenite, good run last start and likes the wet. I took the $41 today on Aeronautical, no wet track form apart from last start when he got home well, I liked his run in the Newmarket.
