Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Bad luck, R~K. Might have got a bit of the second up blues.

Had a good go at one at Sunshine Coast on Friday night. Explore the World. Killen was replaced by and apprentice - apprentices are always a worry.

Well this kid rode like a star. I watched the opening appear for him between the leader and the one outside at about the 250. It closed as he shoved his charges nose into it. He pushed a bit harder. The other riders gave him what for. So he eased back and then began to push through between the leader and the rail. There just wasn't an opening there. And the harder he pushed through the harder the leader pushed back.

He was almost through at one stage. And with 100m to go he was still going to win. At the 60m we still might have got second or third. (Trifectas everywhere.) Then the leader tangled with my horse and dragged him back through the field. Finished maybe seventh.

L Tarrant. (a -3kg.) Balls of iron and desperate to win. Might be a good provincial rider in the making.

I put the whole family on EtW and a mate who is outta luck. 20/1. The Christmas payday. Not much more the rider could have done given the way EtW races.

So now we'll all have to wait a week but hopefully get a bigger payday. I wonder what price I'll get for us about Ms K O'Hara in the Villiers.

Hope ya getting ya Xmas bonuses, punters.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Race 2 Darwin tomorrow - A City Girl is hobbling around again. If she runs like she did last time she can't win, if she runs like she did at her first start in Darwin she can. I'll be having a crack but wouldn't advise anyone to part with their money if they expect to get some back.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

A City Girl is going around again this Sat, r3 at Darwin. Solid 2nd last start, trainer is very happy with her work and not concerned about gate 8. 2 of her 3 starts in Darwin have been decent runs with a win and the 2nd. The other was a shocker so who knows what she'll produce this time around.

Happy to report she ran nicely and saluted again, $7 fixed was lovely too.

Congratulations, and thanks for the tip.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

A horse called Tigerland won by 4 lengths today at Warrnambool. It was the horses first start.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

For lesson on how to pull a horse (or not to pull a horse), check this race out from Belgium. Watch the horse that ultimately comes third (will likely need to watch the closing stages twice) in the red and white colours.

I saw that on either racing retro or racing review on Sunday, it doesn't get anymore blatant than that.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Received a text advising that the trainer of Odd Socks (Ballarat R8, $9.50 fixed) expects a good showing today. The urger didn't feel it important enough to mention his brother-in-law's $9 debut winner at Pakenham on Friday until after the event, so take on trust.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Fronting up for her 5th start in Darwin r4 on Saturday 16th Feb - A City Girl. Trainer still very happy with her work and not concerned by drawing barrier 8 again. Even though she is up a grade the field is not strong and we're hopeful she'll be there when they hit the line.

Also consider a first starter on Sunday at Bendigo - Air Strike.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Our Shock Value has been retired. Have a couple of 3yr old maidens coming up soon, will let you know. Prior also will be coming back soon, maybe 4/5 weeks, a really good prospect. Shocky didnt win over here (from WA) came pretty damn close on a couple of occasions, will have a lovely retirement home. Will be an "Uncle" to the new kids. Thanks Shocky for some greyt runs. Next one should be Human League, maybe at Kilmore next Sunday.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

What a graet story with Miracles of Life winning the Blue Diamond yesterday, she was ridden by 29 year old apprentice Lauren Stojakovic.
Lauren has had an injury plagued career, she was apprenticed at 17, but broke her leg in a trial before she had ridden in a race. She was out of action for 12 months, and then smashed her pelvis and was out for 3 years.
And then this flying filly called Miracles of Life came into her life, unbeaten in her first 3 starts, the tainer and owners had a big decision to make, do they leave Lauren on for the Blue Diamond.
They backed her in and she rode the horse a treat, after drawing the dreaded barrier one, she was 3 back on the fence, she then eased the filly off the rails with about 3 furlongs to go and the rest is history.
The reaction of her father after the race is what racing is all about.
Good on you Lauren!!

Awesome story, the trainer and jockey were just battlers from South Australia.

I was sitting at home bored yesterday when the story came on about 2 hours before the race.
The trainer is just a battler and was driving trucks to make ends meet, and Lauren had all those injuries and set backs as you said, and is still an apprentice at 29 years old.

Then this tiny horse (Miracles of Life) got sent straight to the trainer because they didn`t want to put her in the auctions or something because she was so small and they didn`t think anyone would buy her.

Even now the horse is still about 100kgs lighter than most other horses.

She won her first 3 races and then the Blue Diamond yesterday.

A bloody great story!

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Yes, just the best story for the Jockey and the Trainer..... will change both of their lives, for the better... Now the owner, he bred and still has a share in.. Redoutes Choice!!! and other good horses. He stays behind the scenes, and must be a nice man to let them have all the acolades. He let them have the horse as he thought she was just too small to sell...
A greyt story, and brought a tear to many eyes.. There are lovely people out there !!!

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Miracles of Life reminds me of another tiny flying filly from a year or two ago Karuta Queen, interestingly they are both by the same sire Not A Single Doubt.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Lovely to have feel good stories in a sport that isn't always that way.
