Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Thats Boss, his speech on Ocean Park was the best. Must have said I a hundred times. Compare him to a Craig Williams speech. Saying that leysy is happy to put his money on him, especially over a distance.

Howd the carnival end up JB?

Just on Boss, Leysy, G1s aside, or included, I thought his rides throughout the carnival were lengths better than his colleagues. And Oliver was outstanding. What does everyone else think?

On Fawkner? JB, I think you were dreadfully unlucky not to land the double there. Had Fawkner have drawn out wide, and taken his run around the field, I think he's the winner IMO. Hit the front way too early, and was in the wrong part of the track.

One of my mates mentioned at work tonight that they were talking a potention Sandown Classic run for Puissance De Lune in order to guarantee a Cup berth in 2013. I really hope they do the right thing and spell him, give him a light autumn (Aust Cup?) and just bank on Carpenter giving him a flattering weight. Carpenter is an absolute toff IMO, and there is no way in the world he will have missed his last two demolitons.

Bailey V Nikolic for those interested (audio only). Racing is actually in a pretty ordinary state ATM.

Interesting stuff. Cheers.

Nikolic is absolute scum, he & his brother have been very lucky to be as clean as they have been until now. Criminals.

Deserves never to ride again.

Saying that, its also obvious Bailey's out of his depth & emotion has got the better of him.

Not to mention the farce over spring re:Oliver. How he can continue to ride is staggering.

What I thought was remarkable was that Nikolic went into the room and all they talked about was the eyes on the road comment. Nikolic leaves and then Bailey loses the plot and brings up the threat issue which was far more serious than the eyes on the road side issue (sort of like telling the others he though Nikolic was a murderer but only accused of jaywalking when he had the chance).

NOt really sure how Nikolic can be found guilty on a he said-he said argument. Though think you are right, they really should both be gone. Racing in a bit of a mess ATM.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

OK carnival BTW though only really made some money by laying. None of my few key bets won.

Sometimes on a "he said he said" the panel/judiciary take into account "form" and "character" of each individual and assess who is "likely" to be telling the truth. Nikolic is obviously "dubious" and when one like says "i only said keep your eyes on the road" you wonder why he said it and what he really meant.

good puntin' JB

Unfortunately that s1/2hd margin cost me a nice double and a unit on the quaddie. And, if Sea Siren & Fawkner had got up there was a 19.23% slice of the B6 coming my way

Ah, 'if', the only two-letter, four-letter word. ;)

Love hearing the near miss tales, every punter has some good ones. To this day a mate of mine blames me for him missing a $100K quaddie back in the 90's simply because I said a horse "couldn't win" - he left it out of his quaddie (took the rest of the field) and the rest is oft refrred to history

Would love to know how many times punters have taken the field all bar one or two and one of those get up.

Quite a few years ago i had a quaddie in the dogs at Sandown. In the last leg i'd left the four and the six out. I was at the pub watching with a mate, and when i was still alive in the last leg, i was patting myself on the back, as i was sure the 4 and the 6 couldn't win, especially the 4, as it was a cat. Any way i had a saver on the 6 to win.
Sure enough the 4 jump straight to the front and never looked like getting beaten.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Round 21 (I think) 2007 v the Pies. We'd won 2 or 3 for the season but I knew in my bones we'd win this one. Knew it. Was at a convention on the Goldie and had been working all day. Got out of the shower and as I was leaving my room to go to dinner (fully paid for) got on the dog and bone to plunge on the Tigs. $5.50 we were paying. Was going to have a grand on it, because I knew we'd win. Had been umming and aaahin about the magnitude of the bet but with 10 mins before the game decided to bite the bullet. Took a while before I got through, so that I was at the restaurant when I was told I had not enough in my account. Put a grand on my credit card, I said. That's expired I was told (had been a while since I'd deposited obviously). Had left my wallet in the room. Dashed back up. Got back on the phone, back on hold. Got through, put a grand on this card. Processing, processing... (come on, they're gunna bounce the ball!) Ok that's through. Right, a grand on the Tigs. Sorry, that market has closed.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUU------------------!

Tigs won of course. Never in doubt.

If I'd got that bet up, I would have put another grand on Jimmy Bartel on Brownlow morning. He won. Paid $10.

Would have put $5k on Geelong 40+ in the Grand final. Paid $3.40. They won by 119.

Early the next season Richo was 300-1 for the Brownlow and 75-1 the place. I thought about plunging but didn't. Tortured myself for a couple of years with the thought of putting 10 grand on him the place.

Ah well, there are more important things. I would have blown it on coke and hookers anyway.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

As far as I'm concerned he should if charges proven be banded from race tracks for two years.

So Damien Oliver has been officially charged with 2 offences for placing 10k on another horse..

What is an adequate penalty?

Life ban

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

HS is saying eight months to a year. Things are pretty crook when even racing people are putting the boots into the industry.

I hate 'em. Every punter has a million of them that are only really relevant to themselves. If your aunty had testicles, she'd be your uncle.

On Oliver, definately banned from racecources for life. He has said he will retire with a year ban so retaliate first I say.

Has to be just about life but reckon they will go light as he is a bit of a poster boy. Can't really think of worse than backing against your own horse - essentially race fixing. As you allude, if he has done it once he will have done it many other times as well.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Blake Shinn and Peter Robl got 15 months and 12 months respectively, and they were found to have been betting on a bigger scale than Oliver. About nine months would seem about right.

Can't agree. The big difference is that they never bet against one of their own rides. Oliver's crime thus is far worse and should be punished accordingly.
