For what it is worth JB.

I have just been reading an article on Green Moon and realized he was an import that landed here just over 12 months ago. As they have different birthdays to us, imports can be 6 yr olds under the formula/ rules I use. Can't believe I didn't pick that up, from now on I won't be doing any form on very limited sleep, my fault.

Yes, Green Moon is five years old. Foaled 16/2/07.

Was told yesterday that Green Moon's trainer Robert Hickmott is "a front", and that Lloyd Williams actually trains Green Moon. Nick Williams' acceptance speech did nothing to dispel it..."I’m just so proud for all our team at the farm because everyone just puts in so much time and effort, of course led by dad and it’s another Melbourne Cup triumph for Team Williams."

Can anyone confirm?

Yeah it pretty much known that Lloyd is the one that actually pulls all the strings training wise for his horses.

Remember when Graeme Rogerson was the "trainer" & he actually lived in New Zealand. :hihi

Thanks Leysy, I tend to miss these things.

Thanks for the clarification mate, so the rules hold up again, pity my brain didn't. That would've made it 9 runners and a book at 54% which doesn't help my headache, should make up for it this Saturday though with what should be the best bet of the carnival, will post on Friday night.

Please do; need all the help I can get at the moment. Geez Derby Day was dirty.

Cheers.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Just finished reading a very interesting Cup preview by bookmaker-turned-pro-punter Dominic Beirne, in which he nominated Green Moon as one of the best chances. He also details a 'system', which is more a series of pointers:

1 - In the 21 editions of the Melbourne Cup since 1991, 15 of the 21 winners had returned a career best rating at their previous start. This is an extremely profitable factor.
2 - Abbreviated autumn campaign (max 3 starts), Australian or New Zealand. This factor has provided 5 winners / 15 years’ representation since 1993. You’d have made good money betting this factor.
3 - Personal best rating last start and is having 5th run from spell today. From a very small representation, this factor has provided 5 winners from 9 years. In the past 18 years, there have only been 11 qualifiers, but sadly this year there are no qualifiers this factor (I was banking on GREEN MOON qualifying in the Caulfield Cup, but they ran in the wrong race)
4 - Since 1993, there have been 13 editions of the Melbourne Cup where an international runner was racing at its second Australian start this preparation. This factor has provided 4 / 13 winners and has also been profitable.
5 - Since 1993, when Vintage Crop won for Ireland, there have been 61 international starters who entered the Cup without a previous AU run. They have all lost! One day, this streak is bound to be broken, but I’m not prepared to handpick the one that will snap it. Naturally, backing these horses has proven very expensive.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

He is ok Bierne but some of his rating assessments and stuff is just plain nonsense.

I have a look at his tips through Betfair and his strike rate is often leysyesque.

Nobody backed a winner today? Or has everyone done their punting money?

Yes from me L2, done my dough that is. Worst spring for years. The sound of crickets on this thread suggests I'm not alone.

Didn't see or hear a race and didn't have a bet. Likely to be the case on Saturday too. My Derby winnings, slightly dwindled by the Cup, will have to wait for another day to be donated back to the TAB.

Summerbliss e/w in Oaks. Small but pretty inconsequential profit. Will make a lovely stayer in time though she will. Her trainer Mick Kent possibly the most underrated in the game ILO.

Been a big spring, especially in the big races i.e. CC & PLate, but gave a bit back Derby Day which is traditionally a good punting day for leysy. Funnily Stakes day is usually not a good one, so hopefully it does the full circle tomorrow.

Like Buffering to bounce back tomorrow at a silly price for him, but will sit down & do form after.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Had one large go at Brave Soul yesterday. Covered my outlay but missing the jump by 5 didn't help.

One to watch for sure. Haven't had a stellar spring.

Ive had a good spring snake, courtesy of feeling like my nuts were the the size of coconuts on Caufield Cup day and plonking Dunaden. Still got about $700 of bookies money after my annual spring punting sojourn and think Andrew Eddy (the age today, he has had a good spring) makes a very appealing case for Playing God in the Emirates tommorow. Ive always loved a good 1600m handicap and 3rd up over 1600 has been my most enduring punting system, since i remember my dad passing the system onto me at the Ballarat races when I was about 7. At 40/1 (10/1 the place), I reckon this is as good an opportunity as youlle get in the spring GetOut Stakes. $50 each way MR 6 No.3 for me and $600 bookies money in the christmas club.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

BTW, I closed my Luxbet account, despite knowing some of my losses went to the Tigers. Their odds are RUBBISH. consistently 2 points under their competitors. Opened a sportsbet account, who offer way better odds.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

After the delights of Derby Day I have given most of it back, not even getting close. Heading out to the track tomorrow and I'm prepared to cop another knock in the chase for pots of gold.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Took advantage of Betstar's Double Fixed Odds and got $10 for Dear Demi, so I'm back on an even keel. Got the tri as well but it was a pretty obvious and small-paying one.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

OK boys and girls, Im going out on a massive limb here and declaring it now.

Best bet for the carnival is running around tomorrow in race 8, number 2 - SHAHWARDI. This will define if I have a ripper carnival or a stinker.

Good luck if you get on, if it loses i might disappear for a while..... :hihi

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I'll be backing Dare To Dream in the same race Archy. May the best horse win (or mine, whichever comes first :p).

Sounds like you're going to make it odds-on!

Folding Gear from the same race put in a damn fine run at Caulfield. Should be a good race.
