Thoroughbred racing

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Grr just accidentally backed Hot Snitzel twice. Forgot I'd already put the bet on earlier this morning.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Track Bias today was a disgrace. Apart from Unprentiously in the Straight 6 you had to be no wider than 4 horses off the fence. Any horse who came wide in the straight just didn't make headway.

FWIW the three best-weighted runners for mine are
Dunaden - 1kg is a lenient penalty for such an emphatic CC win. He might already be the best Cup winner I've seen, and if he can win with 59 there'll be no argument from me. He'll be well back early and will need everything to go right when he makes his run, but he's one of the few with no question marks against him. Form has held up through the Mackinnon

Green Moon - if he was from a staying family I'd be all over him at the weights, but his damsire Green Tune got mostly sprinter-milers. Montjeu's blood will have to do the heavy lifting. Forget the Cox Plate run; how did he manage to get three wide from barrier 5, same gate as tomorrow? Doesn't race like a two-miler for mine, but if you think he'll get the trip, go in with the ears back I say!

Lights Of Heaven - again, not much stamina on the dam's side through Volksraad, who is proven as a broodmare sire up to a mile and a half, but not at extreme distances. Liked her combination of early speed and coming back underneath Nolen in the CC. Australasian Oaks/Brisbane Cup/Caulfield Cup form is sound for this. Might make this my main bet, but I'll be looking for better than the 20's on offer, and some doubts remain over her stamina. May also be a run short of 3200m fitness

This IS good puntin' L2R2R. If anyone had asked me to hold a bet on green moon at 20's I would have spent their money yesterday. Shows how much I know. I'd be lookin' for a new trainer and jockey before next years cups if I owned ethiopia. Steam home from last to win the derby, so, hmm, lets ride him on the pace in the cox and the cup. To clever by half. watch for him next year. A cup for the ages. a complete wipe out for me and my family syndicate but my best mate had $50/1000 on the winner based on the lyrics of a pogues song, so I got a few free drinks out of the whole affair. That me signing off from the punting life until next spring. All the very best to the rest of you punters.

And they went relatively slowly in the Cup evidenced by Glencadam Gold sticking on well. Mount Athos was probably the run of the race - got knocked over twice at the top of the straight by Americain (Oliver should get weeks) and made good ground against the bias out wide.

That's about the only thing I had remotely correct. Green Moon was one of those you had to make a call on - either he was in it up to his ears or you put a line through him. He did a Jeune - Cox Plate flop, Melbourne Cup hero (to some). Even the odds were the same.

It ain't getting any easier.

It was OK there on Sat LTRTR, except outside.

Drinks & bets were fine to get on. Only issue is mobile reception, which leysy (betfair) & most punters use these days.

Wasn't a bad day at all, for a losing day. Plenty of people but there was no trouble moving about freely, getting bets on & getting something to eat/drink.

Was Green Moon in Archyboys system?

No it wasnt mate, hit on the main rule of first crack at the race, hit on the second rule that you can't run Derby day but missed as not being a 4 or 5 year old. Was cheering pretty hard for Fiorente that ran second for a nice collect, main bet of the race Lights of Heaven simply didn't get the distance.

Well done to all connections of Green Moon and a ripper ride by Prebble, hope we all had a good day on the punt and didn't lose to much, save some for next Saturday as I reckon I have a moral.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Went to function today and also got Dunaden in a sweep, thought I'd be in for a good day :p

They had a series of comps that won you free mystery 3 box trifectas at 50% - sure enough there was a table there who had the winning combo!!! Just under $23,000 :p

I said to mate before the race either all the favourites would run in at the end or they would all miss out. Should have taken my own advice and gone through the field and taken 'all' the favoured horses out - might have had a chance then.

You won me some money today L2R. :)

We should all be shot for leaving out Green Moon.

I should be, i backed him in the Caulfield Cup last year and the Cox Plate this year

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

To think when the early markets came out he was one the favourites then on the day runs around at $22 :p

I know a lot of people don't take much notice of the numbers, but the last 3 cups have been; 8,24,3 (3 x 8 = 24), 3,12,9 (3 + 9 = 12) and today 14,11,3 (3 + 11 = 14)

I stuck a bunch of small trifectas trying to get a result like those, but didn't get that one. 3 has been a constant performer as well.

I had him - and two others to win, Kelinni and Jakkalberry. Backed a couple of others on the day too - Kasane, Koonoomoo, Eclair Surprise - was much better than Derby Day where I had no winners, 4 seconds and 5 thirds at Flemington - but I got out of gaol big time with two winners at Rosehill one of which was Too Hi Tek paid $115.50 at my bookie.

Love the carnival it gives longshot punters like me a real chance.

Will be in Melbourne late Thursday night for work (a workshop all day Friday) - flight home is late Saturday evening - might slip out to Flemington on the way to the airport .......RT

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Good work Remote. A $115.50 winner would cover a few misses.

I miss Blood17 and his tips and ponderings at this time of year. A rose I got when he died, Kentucky Derby, had one outstanding red bloom open yesterday. Would rival any rose at Flemington. The other one, Makybe Diva, might flower for the Oaks.

Yes miss Blood17 too! His racing knowledge was unsurpassed.

My roses up here are just coming into bloom - they are outside our bedroom window and the scent drifts into the room - just magnificent.

My favourite shrub is just finishing its bloom - The Mediterranean Blue shrub - it always blooms on my birthday and I think that has something to do with it being my favourite.

Love the Spring for the blossoms and the RACING.

My horse profiling has only come up with one runner in the Oaks - Summerbliss - your and mine posts on blooming roses maybe an omen...... :hihi :hihi :hihi

For what it is worth JB.

I have just been reading an article on Green Moon and realized he was an import that landed here just over 12 months ago. As they have different birthdays to us, imports can be 6 yr olds under the formula/ rules I use. Can't believe I didn't pick that up, from now on I won't be doing any form on very limited sleep, my fault.

Fair enough, GM is pretty lightly raced too. Perhaps you could extend the rule to include 6yo's regardless.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Was told yesterday that Green Moon's trainer Robert Hickmott is "a front", and that Lloyd Williams actually trains Green Moon. Nick Williams' acceptance speech did nothing to dispel it..."I’m just so proud for all our team at the farm because everyone just puts in so much time and effort, of course led by dad and it’s another Melbourne Cup triumph for Team Williams."

Can anyone confirm?
