Thoroughbred racing

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I'll have my 5 bucks on Nash. Hope the girl power, Gai and Joy, win and Singo has to eat his words about the barrier draw.

Handy pick up for Ollie to get the MC ride on Americaine. Is he still under investigation?

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Just got on Rekindled Interest each way, go you good thing.

If anyone has any spare $$, get on Big Bonanza in the last at Sydney, had a decent go each way on that too.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Leysy's still keen on Ocean Park.

Save on Rekindled Interest $30 is overs.

Roll Shoot Out & Green Moon into multiples.

Good work Leysy, Bossy can certainly ride a big race winner. :hihi at Gai picking barrier 11, wide from the start.

good puntin' leysy. If you pick 4 horses in a 12 horse race, your odds are pretty good though :hihi

Ethiopia a good cup trial. Track, distance and race didnt suit. Jockey weighed in light after completely shitting his pants and he still ran a close 4th.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Can someone tell me about fixed odds bets on the tab site. I backed Nash's winner today and was surprised how my balance had grown when I checked it. I meant to have $5ew but it says the bet was $20. Does it cost more for fixed odds or did I just stuff up (not that I'm complaining)?

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I would say that is your stuff up Rosy but a good stuff up it was.

Big Bonanza getting up in the last in Sydney saved the day and made it quite profitable, hopefully I wasn't the only one to collect.

Yep of course lots of things to weigh up. Plenty of trainers hang out hoping for a favourable barrier draw and other horses have been scratched due to not getting one. They comment about the draw and how it will likely affect their horse all the time. Some horses mightn't be affected, others can have big issues. There can be all different scenarios considered depending on how the horse races. Agree the barrier is only part of a decision but it is obviously something many trainers factor highly into individual horses chances. I'd be surprised if astute punters, those who might look beyond pretty colours, names and favourite jockeys don't take the barrier into consideration too. Odds change after barrier draws.

Anyway I was just interested in your opinion about barriers being incidental. I think sometimes that could be the case but other times they might be vital. Agree on jockeys. No doubt a good one is worth their weight in gold. :)

I walk the track at Caulfield a bit, and there's no way I'd take a wide barrier from the 1400 metre start. That chute is on quite an incline, and they start turning soon after coming onto the main track. The 1600 m is a bit of a risk: Pierro had to work up that hill and wide in the Guineas, and it cost him that race.

The 1400 at Flemington is also a trap: they start turning immediately, and it's a semi-circle for about 800 metres so if you're caught wide you cover quite a bit of ground.

Tough crowd when you throw your best as the winner with just the one roughie added.

Hard to jag the trifecta/first 4 without adding a couple more horses leysy would have thought.

Plenty of warning was given along way back...

Even with the run on Saturday not sure leysy will. generally not a fan of 3 year olds in the Plate.

Read today that the past 5 3 yo favs in the Plate have ll been rolled. Lonhro's generally dont stay either.

Having never ran at the trip & some query to do so on breeding/racing style leysy wont be jumping at shortish odds to find out.

Dont want to jinx by putting out a tip as on fire of late, having a monster spring, but Ocean Park should be a clear fav ILO.

Anyhow, just home after enjoying some fine Tasmanian eye Fillet washed down by a bottle of fine Barossa Shiraz. Or three. ;D

Singo has every right to question her. Crazy.

LOL at Nash's post race comments too. Said the horse couldn't get in from the barrier.

Actually thought the two 3 YO's ran really well.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I reckon some sold All Too Hard short the previous week when he beat Pierro. Beat him convincingly again in the CP. A very handy colt.

Ta archy. I've never noticed the fixed odds option before so decided to give it a try. Paid better that way. I don't like the new TAB site on my computer. It's not as user friendly and is far too big for my screen so I need to keep moving the page around. Anyway good to have a bit of play money for the next week or twos racing.

Just sour grapes from me. I backed ethiopia and had Aldi bubble and squeek for tea, washed down with a lean mix of black and gold lemon cordial.

Excellent punting, well done.

sounds like you might have got a bonus bet Rosy. the cyber bookies are doing it alot. Their odds are often really crap though. Tiger sponsor Luxbets fixed odds are pathetic. Im pretty happy with 25/1 fixed on Ethiopia in the Cup. Hope they run him.

A couple of experts were basically saying his win last week was just luck.

He certainly proved them wrong.

I don't like the new tab site either rosy, so I just use the old one.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Not a good day for me, but limited the losses to about 20% of what I won last week. Would have been a winning day but for the fact I picked Vatuvei, then remembered I had to vote, decided to get a haircut after and completely forgot to back the thing. :frustration
