Thoroughbred racing

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Apparently one of Black Caviar's sectionals - 600 to 400 (where Luke may have given her a bit of a nudge ) - was under 10 seconds.

I cannot remember this ever happening before.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

She ran the last 600 in 31.82. Flying. Hay List gave her a good shake though; he would beat most. The Davenport (boxer shorts etc.) family owns Hay List - they're not scratching for a crust, they want the big scalp. And kudos to them for not avoiding her.

Geez ya'd hate to own Hay List a premier top sprinter in his own right thats come along at the wrong time.

Hay List is Alydar to Black Caviar's Affirmed. His time on Saturday would've won 56 of the 57 previous Lightnings, the exception being Special's track record.

Me either. 72kph, just phenomenal. I remember Schillaci running an incredible closing sectional to win his second Lightning (2:30 below), but don't think it was that fast.

I listened to Black Caviar's race on the ABC. The call made it sound like she was nearly defeated. I just watched a replay of the race and the result was never in doubt. When Luke asked her to go she fired the afterburners and took off. Won comfortably. Awesome horse.

She hasn't been challenged like that though, the sectionals show they were all out on their feet in the last 200. Bit of a gamble to abandon the previous plans and come back to 1000m; even champions are only flesh and blood. Pressure might be getting to the connections.

Newmarket weights will be fascinating. As unlikely as it is, I'd love to see them clash with BC giving away weight.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Just passing on the owner's thoughts on some horses going around today. Owners normally listen to the trainer. The trainer normally says whatever it takes to keep the horse on their books. Keep this in mind.........

KELINNI Canterbury Race 8 No 6 - "May need a couple more runs"

BARYSH QUEST Launceston Race 8 No 14 - "should win"

ALBADEEN Sandown Hillside Race 1 No 2 - "(General Nediym –Alba) First up and is apparently flying. Worth a bet."

MONTE GAMBLER Sandown Hillside Race 5 No 13 - "I think he should go close here as well."

Good luck if having a bet today.

After much deliberation and I admit heartache I have come to the conclusion I cannot run the PRE Punters Club this year.

My family and I are going to Europe late February and will only fly back into Australia on the morning of 29 March (that evening the Tigers play the Blues in Round 1)

Therefore I will not have enough lead time to spark an interest in the idea and get together the list of punters.

Plus our business has grown so quickly - we now employ 30 staff and I am working 6 days a week just to keep on top of it all. I am also a vice-president of the local Business Council and have two main projects underway there that need constant management. God only knows how I am going to afford the 5 weeks away in Europe - but it is a chance we just cannot give up as we won a trip to Barcelona for the World Mobile Phone Congress - and since we are there we thought we would have a look around Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium and the UK. We are meeting up with our 21yo son at Barcelona - he has been backpacking around Europe for the past 20 months and he is going to join us on our tour.

Apologies if you feel I have let PRE down but I just do not have the time nor the exuberance to run it this year.

I have no issues if some other PRE member would like to pick up the baton and run the Punters Club.

Your Sincerely Remote Tiger

Firstly I want to thank Remote for his awesome generosity financially, time wise and of spirit, for initiating, funding and running our PRE Punters Club for so many years. Awesome effort. It's been wonderful fun in many ways with the added bonus of helping towards PRE's running costs. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. PRE has been far better for the experience. Thanks again Remote and safe travels. :hearton

Secondly is anyone interested in running a similar competition for us this year. I doubt we'd put in the $20 each week as Remote has for so long but maybe we could just do it for the fun and the glory...and maybe a signed 2012 team poster. Any volunteers and/or suggestions?

Remote paid the $20 each week? Didn't realise that. Fantastic effort indeed. :clap

As he's done for many years. Incredibly generous...that's why I had everything crossed for results each week so we could at least cover his costs.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

from the various owners....

Flemington R6 #4 -Adamantium – "His form is solid and only got beaten last week by King Mufasa and Pinker Pinker. The 1600 has to be a query though.."

Flemington R4 #1 OR Rosehill R4 #5 - Budai – "Has been working very very well. Definitely worth a bet."

Eagle Farm R2 #9 - Contract Caterer – "Chris says this is more in his league and should be in it."

Also going around tomorrow in the Guineas is one of my favourites - Bombalatomba. Up against some quality horses but I'll have a go and hopefully his barnstorming finish will be timed to perfection.
Good luck punters.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Winmad's horse is having a run tonight - Shock Value Race 6 #4.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Good field in that one KFer. Under The Eiffel resuming, Chasm, Faster Son...

I reckon Instinction will win the Guineas. Gets a 2.5kg turnaround on That's The One and Decircles and the inside gate (after getting caught three wide last time) with Newitt aboard. Query on the distance and the going but only slight in both cases. Mosheen might have to do too much from a wide barrier but she'd be my next pick. Saying that, Helmet's best is too good but he didn't look near it first-up. Huegill the best roughy ($30+ runners have won the past two of these).

Silver Slipper Stakes is a race between Pierro (backed it at $16.50 to win Golden Slipper - lots of talk it's Gai's best) and Hussousa. Traditional lead-up event but no Silver Slipper winner has gone on to win the Golden Slipper for 35 years so I'll be cheering Hussousa home.

Hobartville Stakes is even more a two-horse race. Manawanui or Hot Snitzel - the latter overs at $5, although all three of his unplaced runs have been second-up, so I'll be on the fave.

Ran a good race and beaten a head. Paid $3.50 place. Well done Winmad but bad luck at the same time. Looks like a nice horse.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Thanks RFC.. Forgot to post.. Will run again 2 weeks at the Valley. Nom'd for Newmarket but after such a hard race last night, needs a week off. Couldnt enjoy after the horrific fall of Like an Eagle, a lovely young horse who was going places. It certainly brings you back to reality. A sad night.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Sorry it's so late but the owners & trainer of Glass Harmonium are very confident. Only horse they are concerned about is Manighar.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Unfortunately..they were right!!
Loved that Hay List won.. he certainly deserved it.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Sadly looks like Glass Harmonium may need another throat op..

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Our Horse "Shock Value" is in the last race at Moonee Valley tonight. He was second 2 weeks ago. there have been a few scratchings, so think he will go pretty close. Craig Williams on board, another bonus. I think a good each way chance.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Glass Harmonium - won't race again, owners have puuled the plug on his racing career.

Shock Value - in the money again. The Melbourne winners cheque can't be too far away Winmad.
