Thoroughbred racing

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Well done Rosy, too good, to be sure! Fabulist was ridden superbly but just one run short and probably not good enough at that grade. Will hopefully go to Flemington in 2 weeks over 1400 again when she should be fitter and have no excuses. Then off for a spell.

Back to the doghouse for me! Sorry folks

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Go Paddy boy. The luck of the Irish. :hihi

Was barracking really hard for Fabulist T44. Got to admit I was a bit short of puff after getting my fella over the line. Hard work and so exciting. I thought I was going to get Our Tigressed again but the post appeared just in time.

Barrier 19 was no help to you. Better luck for next time.

Blitzed them. What a lucky pick up for the Boss man to get the late call up.

PRE Punters Club

Paddy O'Reilly Salutes as previous PRE Punter of the Year winner Rosy struts her stuff

Rosy's Paddy O'Reilly saluted and we got $12 fixed price the win and $2.94 the place = $14.94 x $5 = $74.70 less the $10 outlay = a win of $64.70 for PRE. Well done Rosy and you are certainly showing all and sundry that you are out to be PRE Punter of the Year 2011.

Tiger44's Fabulist looked strong on the turn as he came across the heels of the horses in front balanced up and made a charge up the straight - alas it was a day for front runners and though the PRE favourite Fabulist hit the line hard he could not make up the ground on the winner. I reckon he is a black booker for sure - next start certainty.

Add the $4 win from Blood_17 two weeks ago and Rosy's $8 from last week + this week's $64.70 and the PRE Punters Club owes PRE Admin $76.70. (I have remitted $76.70 today to the Admin account)

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Thanks very much Remote. :hearton

Good luck happy.  Hope you have beginners luck and can find a winner for us. :)

I notice Brad has 1 ride tomorrow.  Doesn't sound too promising so might have to let him ride without my added weight on board.  I'll have to get a form guide and see if any of the tipsters fancy it.  Not that they make any difference...none of them tipped my last 2 horses either. :blah

Decisions, decisions.  Not sure I'll sleep tonight with such important decisions to be made.  :rofl

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Rosy Great return last week.
Reckon we are running for 2nd place ( like Black Caviar's opponents )

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Happytige has not logged on since I posted it is his and Rosy's turn in the chair this weekend. Therefore it is safe to assume he does not know it is his turn. If any of you know his mobile phone number could you please sms him with the news it is his turn in the chair of the PRE Punters Club?

Thank you......cheers RT

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Sorry RT I've had my head in the form guide trying to find a winner....looking for inspiration.

With fairly small fields, you'd think it wouldn't be so hard, but I'm still struggling.

Finally decided: Caulfield Race 8 No 3 Sense of Sun. $5 E/W.
If this is scratched, I'll have Race 6 no2 Hawks Bay.

Thanks for the best wishes Rosy. You are the SUPERSTAR of PRE tipping and I hope you have another big win today.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Payment has been credited this morning. Thanks again Remote for your extreme generosity, both in providing a fun initiative and helping towards PRE's running costs. Greatly appreciated.

On another note when we met in Shepparton Remote I pointed out the Zaidee's Rainbow signs in all the shops. Zaidee was a little girl who loved rainbows and died too soon. There has been a very successful Rainbow Foundation charity set up in her honour, both to fundraise and also to promote organ donation.

The Caulfield program is dedicated to the cause today. Races named Zaidee Inspires Discussion, Zaidee's Golden Rainbow, Rainbow Foundation Cup, Rainbow Shoelaces Cup, Organ and Tissue Transplant etc.

For further info Zaidee's Rainbow Foundation

Edit-Just saw your tip happy. Took a decision away from me thankfully. I won't tip in the same race as another tipster. There is no reason whatsoever to suggest Testalux would finish any better than last but I was finding it hard to ignore the Brad Rawiller factor. Glad I don't have to consider it now.

Back to the drawing board and back soon....

Agree happy...I'm struggling too. A hard day to pick.

I wouldn't have a clue about my horse. Yet again none of the tipsters select him and typically I haven't used the most technical criteria for the choice.

Because....

1- I like the name
2- If we squint hard enough from a distance and use our imagination the yellow with the purple sash could look like it's really yellow and black
3- 5 is my lucky racing number and this is horse 5 barrier 5
4- Looking for a bit more substance to hang my hat on I remembered Remote's change of gear/long odds theory. $31 in the paper and crossover noseband for the first time hopefully qualifies. Ok I'll fess up I'm struggling with my justification there. I only added that because the MOTH pointed it out to me after I told him my selection.
5- Bradley's race was already taken.

...I'll go for

Caulfield races

Race 3 Horse 5- Strike The Tiger $5ew please Remote.

Good luck to all, especially happytige.

Go Sense Of Sun. Go Strike The Tiger.

Thanks Remote. Big difference there. It will be interesting to see the odds when they jump. Fingers crossed the TAB is more reflective of his chances than IAS. :help

Just came into the lounge to see a horse fall at the last jump at Oakbank. It's laying on the ground and hasn't moved. Makes me sick in the guts to see. How long are they going to let it continue?

The big Warrnambool jumps 3 day carnival is on this week. It is a great 3 days to attend with the jumps racing a feature of the carnival. Let’s hope no horse are injured in the jumping as no one wants to see that. I will make the following point, what would happen to the jumps horses if they aren’t being raced? I think it’s the lesser of 2 evils from an animal liberation point of view, do we kill them all to save a few from a death on the track? It is known that the horses are well cared for by the industry and that horses do like jumping over the jumps. Let the public decide if it’s a worthy event, I’m sure the 1,000’s of people who attend all agree that the jumps racing makes this event special to so many.

That's been debated in depth on here before...and still the horses keep falling and being destroyed. It needs to be made safer. There have been token gestures but they obviously aren't enough.

As for jumping them to save them being killed what is their fate after they can no longer jump?

Plenty of ex-racehorses are rehomed or live their lives out on properties. I'm sure more retired race horses live their lives out than be destroyed after their career has finished. I'd love to see some stats on that.

I’m sure you are familiar with this site :hihi

http://www.horseracingkills.org/news/news_02_10_06.htm

Wastage is the term used to define the horses that leave the racing industry. For most of them, leaving the industry means entering the knackery, sooner or later. Many of these horses will not have run a single race. It is a well accepted fact in the industry that out of 1000 registered foals born each year, only 300 will ever run a single race. Only around 2% of the horses that do race will win enough money to cover their costs. The racing industry keeps and publishes statistics of every conceivable description yet keeps no records of horses after they finish racing. The reason is painfully obvious. It is estimated in Australia each year, anywhere between 15-20,000 horses bred for racing are killed for pet food sold by their owners, often for just a few hundred dollars.

Sadly, the view that racehorses are retired to live out the rest of their lives in a tranquil country pasture is a myth. The reality for nearly all ex-racehorses is that they will end up at the knackery where they will be slaughtered well before the end of their normal lifespan. The average lifespan for a horse is 25 years of age yet the average age of a thoroughbred is just over 5 years. For those few whose lives are spared, many face an even worse fate, being passed from owner to owner, often ending up in paddocks, neglected and left to starve.

So I'm pretty sure your assumption is wrong.

The jumps horses like jumping and are well cared so let's keep them living by jumping.

No I'm not familiar with it and I don't get the joke either.

I know horses love jumping (interesting how they don't jump out of their paddocks for the sheer joy of it just the same).  I did showjumping and eventing back in the day.  There is a big difference there.  The horses aren't flogged to exhaustion before being put over the jumps and there is no crowding for a spot.

I'm not sure why you've quoted me yet ignored my comments about jumps racing needing to be made safer.  I'll leave you to it.

Rosy you asked a question in your posting on what happens to horses after their racing career is finished and I answered it?

As far as you statement goes on the safety it’s your opinion, as I had mine on what a great sporting event the May race carnival is in Warrnambool (which you didn’t acknowledge if you want to get that petty)

I agree that we need to make the sport safer that’s why they are doing more schooling of the horses to get better quality jumpers so that thre are less deaths. As it is only the second season with new standards only time will tell if there is improvement in the overall safety.

Anyway I will be at the Warrnambool carnival for the full three days and I will be hoping like everyone that there will be no deaths, as it truly is a magnificent horse racing carnival.

Seems you're the one wanting to get petty seeing you mentioned it. :rubhead

You chose to quote my original post and said let the public decide. It seems to me you mis-judged my comments to mean banning jumps racing rather than make them safer otherwise I'm not sure why you quoted and made the response you did. Good onya though. That's entirely your prerogative. :)

Meanwhile back at the Punters Club...

sorry I let the team down bigtime today. I guess there are reasons a horse is $31. If it was a 500 metre race we would have collected. :rofl

Time to polish up the lucky pin and hope for better service in future.

Here's hoping happytige can do it for us in the last.
