Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Apologies Big Nige, I was trying to wait until after you had picked before posting the update but ran out of time. She was very ordinary (again). Got back and although racing more tractably than last time she pulled out wide to make her run at the turn and just never made ground. Nothing made ground all day out wide, a few weaved a way through to win from behind. Her sectionals were ok but just can't keep giving away starts and expecting to make ground when the bias is against her.

Think we will look for 1400m probably at Sandown but may also need to lower our expectations and go back to a restricted grade rather than trying to get to black type races. In all honesty she may not be as good as I thought (hoped) she was going to be.

Not a great weekend for T44 with the Tigers going down also.

Persistence is the key

Surely is t44 when it comes to race horse ownership.

We have just picked up a lonhro mare the wanless family originally paid $200,000 for and was trained by moody.
Only four starts but is still undeveloped so hope she can show some talent...we paid $10,000 for her.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Good luck with the Lonhro mare RR. My experience tells me that if Moody can't get them over the line then it will be a hard task for another trainer. Still if their is scope for improvement and you have the right trainer then hopefully it can work out goood for you.

Was at Morphettville Saturday on an EOS cricket trip; her form of course reads very well if the MV run is excused so a few of us tipped in.

All her wins have been in Aug/Sep, maybe she'll pick up then. :don't know

No Apolosgies need T44 :)

My Father in law trains trotters and although one trials well she has a hard time come the race so the fickle nature is all part of the punt

I also enjoy following your girl and and am prone to tip a couple of dollars in for a bit of spice
Next time she'll go O.K

ROLLS, Let us know the progress of the mare, I like keeping tabs of the horses the guys on here have

whats her name??

BTW bad luck with the multi ...... no-one saw the ess-doggies result coming

Good punting gents

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

PRE Punters Club

Bignige selections on paper looked the good but did not get into their respective races - very hard on a track that favoured front and on-pace runners.

The speed of the Bombers cost us a good divy in Rolls Royce's footy selections

Next time gentlemen?

This week the champion - eastlavy takes on the challenger - Blood_17.

Hey eastlavy don't take the octogenarian Blood_17 too lightly - he has a great eye for a winner - don't go easy on him.

Only jokin guys have fun...........

Please have your selections posted on this thread by 11am Saturday. Thanks.......RT

Order of punters for 2011

1. Bignige
2. Rolls Royce
3. eastlavy - The Champion
4. Blood_17 - The Challenger

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Champion? May have to change my name to Bradbury. :)

Hope we can both pick up a winner this week. Is Oakbank the main meeting in South Australia this weekend?

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Black Caviar voted the best racehorse in the world.

Hard to argue with that if you are prepared to compare sprinters and stayers in the same category.

So You Think at No.5.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

It's a shame that it takes Black Caviar for an Australian sprinter to be instantly recognised as the world's best sprinter. Thankfully, the rankings acknowledge that she's the best horse in the world. That's at least something. The first sprinter to top the world thoroughbred rankings since their conception. Meanwhile, the deluded trainer of Rocket Man still wonders who the better horse is.

Remember, Ortensia is a competitive race mare, but we have better mares here. More Joyous, TT (recently retired after being too good for Ortensia in both runs in her final prep) and the filly Crystal Lily would definitely be too slick for her. Then you can make a solid case for Response (a dual G1 winner). Avenue would definitely spank her over the short course but might struggle at 6 furlongs without a soft run in front. Ortensia was/is probably superior to Varenna Miss & Beaded.

The point being, that Ortensia was within two lengths of JJ the Jet Plane (and also Rocket Man, 2nd) in Hong Kong late last year, and they didn't go hard. Ortensia ran 5th, and wasn't suited. What would More Joyous, Typhoon Tracy or Crystal Lily have done in the race? And these are just THE GIRLS. And this trainer of Rocket Man finally wins a G1 international outright in Dubai and is curious to know who is better out of him or Black Caviar? His stupidity astounds me, he would struggle to come down here and beat our other top girls, let alone Black Caviar.

The best sprinters in the world are more often than not, Australian. Takeover Target, Miss Andretti, Scenic Blast (went amiss after flogging them in the King's Stand), Starspangledbanner have all been dominant in G1 victories in Europe in the last five years. If there is a horse good enough to win multiple sprint races in the Autumn, chances are you'd struggle to find one faster in any part of the world. And on the off chance you do, it was probably bred here, and then sold to HK or Singapore.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Does anyone have any thoughts on the slipper tomorrow? Sepoy would be a real goer at that sort of price if the *smile* hadn't been up for nine months. Plenty of horses faint in the wet, think that the punters have jumped off too quick. The mail I've got was that Smart Missile is sore, but it's not direct enough to be taken as gospel.

There is a bit of a quirk in those rankings that has gone pretty much unsaid. It is the rankings for the most recent 6 months of racing only. The Europeans havent raced in that period as it is jumps season. It will be far harder for Black Caviar to be rated the best when they come out again in 6 months time once all those horses have raced.

Still an excellent achievement from a great horse. Makes good marketing material as well.

yeah tough race as always. Wouldnt want to have your last on it. Leysy's gunna spec Elite Falls who will get back & have the last crack off what is usually a hot pace.

Its an unusally good card for a NSW meet. Leysy likes a few at e/w odds -

Race 4 No 2 Pinker Pinker
Race 5 No 7 Linton
Race 6 No 3 Danleigh (bet of the day 11's unfucking believable).
Race 8 No 3 Rainbow Styling

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Lol @ Danleigh at double figure odds, Leysy. On already ;D Quinella repeat of the Chipping Norton for mine. Centennial Park the danger.

Tampiko is really good odds at the valley tomorrow against the mares. She beat home the two males (True Persuasion and Zedi Knight) in stunning fashion first up at the valley... Could be a real comer. Back to mares grade I honestly expect her to open pretty close to evens, but a poor draw and Ms Meech have made the odds workable.
