Thoroughbred racing

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Thanks Azza and JB03, think the Oakleigh Plate may have been a bit too quick for her, I note Big Spirit decided to run tonight rather than go there and she beat us fairly last start. Like the $4 in this mornings H-Sun. If you can get each way odds fairly safe bet I would have thought.

Fingers and everything else crossed

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

How did she go T44? I forgot to watch yet again.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Can I say "Disappointing" ? She just didn't want to race. Wouldn't go through the tunnel, dug her feet in when she (eventually) got on the track, wouldn't go in the barriers, almost dug her toes in after jumping - as a consequence lost a couple of lengths and then didn't race truly the whole way. And still was only beaten a couple of lengths, and had the second best sectionals in the race. Was in a pig of a mood and raced accordingly. Hope she doesn't do that again as she will be looking at a life as a broodmare.

Hope no one lost too much!

Sounds like a reasonable batch of excuses/reasons there T44. Will stick with it next start.

Does anyone in Australia think that Black Caviar will not win the Newmarket?

No, but only because there don't appear to be any strong challengers. The Newmarket isn't a race to break apart with pure speed and has a history of close finishes. Prefer not to get a fright when taking threes-on.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Hey all.

Just in case anyone pre enders like a decent punt, i heard whispers today that a massive story is brewing up north in QLD, not to sure when it will be released but it will almost be as big as The Fine Cotton affair.

If you like a decent bet, stay away from QLD until this story breaks. Betting through the corps has dropped dramatically in recent times as the pro's are onto it and everyone is steering clear.

Other than that, good luck finding a winner

I doubt it. But she's not a machine.
At the weights Star Witness, Beaded and particularly Decision Time (if he runs) could force her to cog it up to 3rd or even 4th gear.
Always thought Vain was the best sprinter I ever saw (saw him win his first race at Caulfield on Guineas day in '68), but if Black Caviar treats the Newmarket field with the same contempt as her previous starts then she is right up with him.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Handicapped weight, weight for age and weight difference for some (all ?) of the confirmed runners:

Black Caviar  58   56.5 +1.5
Hay List      56.5 58.5 -2
Eagle Falls   55   58.5 -3.5
Star Witness  53   56   -3
Beaded        52.5 56.5 -4
King Pulse    52   58.5 -6.5
Response      52   56.5 -4.5
Decision Time 50.5 56   -5.5
Crystal Lily  50   54   -4
Hinchinbrook  50   56   -6
Panipique     50   54   -4

At WFA there's no argument, but if there's a chink in the armour it'll be found under handicap conditions.

Hay List the only danger IMO. He mets her 3.5kg better and hopefully we get a Good track. No excuses but can't see him turning it around but looks a lock quinella.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

If anyone from last year's successful and fun Punters Club, or anyone else, wishes to rejoinfor the upcomign season there is a thread about it here. There is an added option to bet on AFL games this year too.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Well it's Newmarket Handicap day, otherwise known as Dyer'ere Day. This is my favourite race of the year and my my most successful. It was on this thread that I declared Stratum the bet of the millennium. Fell into third at fifties. Bulletproof the drum at eleven and a half to one.

So. Eagle Falls. He's not a genuine six furlong horse IMO. Or at least he hasn't been to date. (But he is maturing.) And as we saw in the Oakleigh Plate he wants a speed and he won't get one. Furthermore had the race a full field of eighteen the mare would have to carry the weight. And a hard run Newmarket is a seven furlong race, a long way for even a champion mare to carry 58 kegs.

So why lay her? Because her price is silly. Under fives on? Crazy. I'd have laid the *smile* out of her in a full field. As it is I'm inclined to think that she might be the best sprinting mare I've seen. But I don't know. Maybe Hay List is no good - we know that Catapulted is a cat; forget the stable rap. She beat the *smile* out of Eagle Falls in various mongrel six horse Valley races? Counts for nothing. Rubbish races, rubbish as testing material. And her victory over him down the straight was a massacre? Yeah. Some days he just doesn't turn up.

The rest of the Newmarket Field is not much good. But Eagle Falls absolutely destroyed the Oakleigh Plate field. And he drops in weight for it. He's getting 4.5 kegs from the mare. And, get ready for this - they are betting $26 fixed about him. I'd take $10 about him. I rate him 11/4.

Remember he was unsuited behind Wanted last year. The riding in that race was incompetent but for Nolen on the winner. But he still ran the winner to a length. Star Spangled Banner ran third. And I would be backing him to beat the mare at $26.

If, for the rest of your life, you only bet on horse horses that are five times their correct price. And lay ponies at fives on that should be twos on, you'll die wealthy.

My other interest in the race will be Hinchinbrook at $26. Given the relative size and maturity of the favourite and this 3yo eight kegs is a huge weight pull. And that's essential if the mare is to get rolled.

Shocking is hilarious at $8 fixed. Should be 9/4. He's good enough to carry Corey Brown and that's a big call. Good luck, PREnders.

Take the $1.30 BC - it is overs IMO.

Ya shopped well, jb. She won like a twenty to one on chance. 1:7.3 in second gear with 58 kegs. Best sprinter I've seen. And the old timers are taking the name of Vain in vain.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

LOL at Dr Turf whingeing about a Craig Williams's ride. Shocking totally outclassed them. Race over after five furlongs. Cue in the rack.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

That was simply unbelievable that win. Mare, with 58kgs wins by 4 hard held. Would like to see them take it overseas.

They have ruled that out to date, jb. She'd donkey lick anything in the world. I know there isn't a lot of opposition for her here atm. But she is destroying Australasian sprinters and they are better than any other.

Agree, rolling Whobe into BC into Shocking has made today a very good day.

Like Set for Fame in the last.
