Terrible news for the sport of kings today with budding champ Black Caviar straining a ligament during trackwork this morning.

Definately out for the Autumn with a question mark on the spring according to Peter Moody.

Just when the badly sport needs some hero's to drag it along the most talented of them goes amiss.

BTW how well did her form stand up after she completely towelled Here de Angels who then came out & won its next start.

Hopefully she comes back in full health soon.

Yep very disappointing Hazy. She looks the real deal. Reading between the lines she'll be out for a year which means the spring is out as well. It's tough with those sort of horses. She's very big with a massive motor and it just puts so much strain on her legs. The odds of her ever been sound for a prolonged period would be pretty long. But the news reports say the owners have no intentions of early retirement so hopefully she gets back to full fitness.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Damn it , there goes some easy money, guess I'll have to work for my money now.
:hihi

She'll be back & she'll be even more powerfull than she is now & I'll be waiting to take what ever odds are on offer.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Nice run by an emerging star in Linton today people.

Black book this one, he's destined for much bigger things.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I'm not if anyone has mentioned, but there is quite a good horse running around named 'Richoman' has won two in a row now after smashing them at Mornington today.

The big Richo lives on!!!

I was there & had a nice win on it, I made the Mrs collect the winnings whilst singing 'I wanna be a richoman'! I may bribed her with more champagne :hihi

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

My tip from a few weeks back Escargot won on weekend and paid $14. Bugger, i missed him too.

Also the two year old I have with some mates, Copacetic, had his second start in a strong two year old open race in Townsville today and ran second to a horse rated NQ's top youngster.

Very good run as he ran off on the turn and was very green in the straight but after leading to the turn still came again and charged home for second.

Most impressive and a great buzz after such a long wait as we actually bred him using one of our former galloper's Althalia, (a talented but contankerous maiden mare), mated with Falvelon.

He has a little brother coming behind him so fingers crossed.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Good luck Rolls. Hope he posts a win soon.

I'm keen on Intertidal in Sydney on Saturday and for that juvenile raffle, the Slipper.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Couldn't find a red hots thread on here, so I'll post this here.

A friend of our family owns a pacer called "Annual Vacation". Raced in the first at Abany WA two weeks ago from the No.1 spot. I saw him before the race as he was driving onto the track and yelled out how it would go. He nodded, which I took as meaning have a bet on it.

So I went straight to the tote (no bookies on course) and chucked some hard earned each way on it. Very happy when it led all the way, never challenged, for a good win.

Was gobsmacked that it paid $34.60 and $6.80. I hadn't looked at the price before laying my bet.

So now I am going on an annual vacation on Annual Vaction. Coming to Melbourne to watch a round of footy, that will of course feature the mighty Tigers.

Funny thing is, when I asked him later, he said he only nodded hello. Reckoned it was no chance.

The sad bit is, when I get a tip at decent odds I usually lay a Trifecta/field/field on it for half divvy. Would have cost me $23. The Trifecta paid $8700 :'(

And a question for anyone who might know. The quartet was a carryover. If I had gone half divvy on that, would I have scooped the pool or got half of it?

On second thoughts, maybe I don't want to know the answer.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Full pool is my sketchy answer Streaker. Not 100% as leysy's days in Perth were a few brain cells away.

Good luck with ya nag Rolls, great feeling to breed a winner yourself.

You would have got half the pool, Streak. The balance would jackpot.

Generally you can get the pool with a 50% bet. Can you flexibet quartets? So the payout will be double the pool, TAB deductions aside. For Superscab this is a carryover from pre flexibetting days when most exotics like quaddies were taken out by people for half a unit (50 cents). The old half unit is effectively equivalent to the new 50% flexi.

Things get rather more complicated if you are the sole winner but the bet was for a smaller than 50% win.

Good luck RR, must be a real thrill! Will you keep us posted on progress?

Haha, good luck to you. Similar to the jockeys' room attendant at the 1972 Melbourne Cup - John Letts is having a nap prior to the race -> attendant wakes him -> Letts says "I'm in this race" -> attendant hears "I'll win this race" and backs Piping Lane at 40/1.

My girl Fabulist is back at the track at Sandown on Wednesday. Over 1600m, drawn 3 is fit and ready to go. Worth a dollar each way. Fingers crossed.
