Thoroughbred racing

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Not a bad day.

Took Whobe and also Alcopop. Had a big go on the Pop.

Not great but not bad.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I picked out Precedence for the Melbourne Cup months ago. My confidence went "bang" with my PRE selection.....I apologise.

I am the same - thought the Cummings factor - but I took the wrong Cummings horse on the day - should've had Allez Wonder????????

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Remote, now that Precedence has failed so badly, I don't fancy anything, strongly, in the Melbourne Cup. I was sure Bart was timing Precedence for the big race. Maybe the 2010 Cup?

I use the ol' rule of thumb - 1st three placegetters in the Caulfield Cup unless one of them is a 3yo then I also take the 4th placegetter - first three place getters in the Moonee Valley Cup (which is overdue to produce the Melbourne Cup winner), 1st three placegetters in the LKS MacKinnon unless one of them is a 3yo then I also take the 4th placegetter, the winner of the ol' Hotham Handicap and the winner of the Geelong Cup

Usually finish with 4 or 5 possibly 6 horses and the winner more often than not..........

Turnbull Stakes, The ol' Craiglee Stakes and the Herbert Power over the years has also been a good early pointers - Efficient is back and on target for another tilt - Vigor did look the goods in the Craiglee and that Alcipop did win well yesterday - but they will all perform in other lead ups to the big one (Caulfield, Moonee Valley, Geelong or even a race on Derby Day......)

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I agree with your "rule of thumb" comments, RT. I think Efficient, Viewed and Alcopop have been the most impressive so far, but maybe one of the overseas arrivals will be a real chance this year. I'm stunned after Precedence's bad run. ::)

Hmmm might be a day to put away the wallet. I like a lot of those selections too.
Wise move JB.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Good to see tall poppy syndrome alive & well on PRE.

They've been waiting all spring to nab leysy on this thread.

Going to spec a couple e/w at the Heath today -

race 4 - At the Crease
Race 5 - El Mandon (small)

& in the Guineas - Melito. Will also pay to have a saver on gun trainer Michael Kents My Emotion at a big price.

Also See the field & barrier draw for the Cup is out -

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

As a follower of yours Leysy keen on Predatory Pricer, how do you see its chances and is the $7 good value

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I agree Kirklees and Cima de Triomphe will take beating. Vigor has drawn the carpark but I think he'll run his usual honest race. He's been checked at his last two runs.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Ok lads, let's see if I can do this.

In the Carsales classic get on Purple each way but if you've got the extra readies don't look past Clandon.

And in the last O'Tobefamous each way is a beauty.

Good punting lads!

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Got the first two legs of the quaddie but it is looking pretty slim so far.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Leysy's has a 2nd & 3rd e/w so no damage done.

On the Carsales. Tough race. Prima Nova e/w at odds maybe. One of us should get it.

Mate, Good horse. The barrier really worries leysy. reckon he more than nearly every other needed to draw well.

He's a Bull who hasn't been settling properly all campaign whilst still running very well. If they give him a dig to use his tactical speed leysy doubts he will come back underneath King & settle. It will quell his finish if he does. He may have to go back & come late.

But His forms certainly up to it & is well weighted for a horse running well at WFA so dont let leysy talk you out of it if you like it.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

4,8,13,15,16 in the last.

Took Irish Lights and Here De Angels one out so I can load up on the last. ;D

I like O'Tobefamous each-way as well. Should enjoy the 2000m. My only bet of the day.

Well, one 2nd and a nothing from 2 goes. So be it.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

CC can be a bit of a farce with only half the field out to win it. Looks a very tough year to pick the winner.

If C'est Le Guerre is trying i reckon he'll win it. Also, if Shocking can sneak a run he has to be a huge chance... I've watched the Herbert Power a dozen times, and if you take Alcopop out of it Shocking demolished the rest... he would've been installed favourite for the CC in those hypothetical circumstances. But instead he looms as a 20-1 shot.

In terms of the speed map... I would've thought that Zavite would be certain to lead with Fiumicino moving across to sit outside him with Light Vision and potentially Vigor trying to get the drop on them both. Leysy is bang on the money regarding Predatory Pricer, he has raced fiercely pretty much all campaign and his only convincing finish was when he was snagged back first up over 1400 at Caulfield. Should settle back in the field on Saturday.

Anyone know anything about the racing patterns from these internationals (I include Daffodil and Harris Tweed in that) ?
