Great day's racing today. Although, I reckon it could be a dangerous betting day. Nevertheless, gotta love the Turnbull, even if it has been a maggots race of late.
As usual the Turnbull looms as a potential joke, the last three winners have been Littorio, Devil Moon and Sphenomaggot. The set weights and penalties conditions must surely be the reason for these bizarre results.
There appears to be absolutely no speed. None. I would expect that Maldivian would get an incredibly soft lead, with Baughurst sitting outside him, Vigor box seating and Predatory Pricer one out one back. If, as expected, there is no speed, you would expect the winner to settle in the first four. But big Mal is coming off an unorthodox preparation and doesn't appreciate the big straight at Flemington, Baughurst is a maggot, Vigor is a maggot and Predatory Pricer got very upset and overraced last time at Flemington. I'd be interested to here if anyone has any conviction regarding the winner of this race... personally, i reckon that if i have a bet in this race it will wipe me out the same it did the last three years.
Interested to see how All Silent goes today... i reckon he's potentially the best horse in Australia, but was plagued by bad luck and wet tracks in the Autumn. I'm really hoping we can see the same bloke we did last spring as he looked absolutely awesome.
Speculating on roughies Imashadow (likely leader in slowly run affair and has defeated Gran Sasso up the straight), Pillar of Hercules (ran 4th in Rupert Clarke last year, finishing next to Turffontein, and has tongue tie on today, leading me to believe that he choked down last start).
Backed Hot Danish at 3.50... first time i've ever backed her. And I'm hoping Light Vision sh!ts in as i backed him in the Caulfield Cup at 100-1 earlier in the spring.
Good luck all.
