Well, LF did turn the tables on that handy mare last start. Maybe he is better than Zarita after all?

Maldivian defied the pattern in the Orr Stakes and was too good. WFA racing is in serious trouble when an Easter cup winnner is the star. I mean, even Baughurst ran a cracking race! A Werribee cup winner FFS!

LF will go to the mile now in the Futurity where he is suspect. His win in the guineas came over two horses (Playwright and Marching) who are proven to be no where near the top level. (Although Playwright's effort behind Red Element on the weekend was much improved)

I think it's incredibly likely that LF is being badly handled. Price stated early on in the campaign that the Newmarket was a good go. Perhaps the owners have interfered. Perhaps Price thinks he is a sprinter. His run in the Carlyon suggests that he is.

In the Spring, people were suggesting that LF was the same class as WH. Which is nonsense. But he does appear to be a similar class to those maggots that beat him home in the Orr. And they are the best going around at the moment. Very sad.

Well said on LF Gyps.

It was just a run. Only beaten a length & led the field up. But just a run.

Fully agree on his campaign. Price was talking Newmarket, TJ Smith, Doomben 10000 campaign a few weeks ago. Looked to suit him well. The Newmarket in particular is an ideal race.

Dont agree with the switch. He hasnt looked like a miler.

Reckon your hard on & need to re-evaluate Maldivian. Like many many Zabeel horses before him he's been fitted with blinkers & grown 4 legs. Its amazing how many do. He also ran time for a dead track. The big fella will continue to be hard to roll when blinkers are applied.

You make a good case. And I'm aware that I may need to re-evaluate him. Funnily enough, it's not like he's been costly to me on the whole. I was on in his JRA plate demolition, and again in the Yalumba, and had something on in the Cox Plate.

But I will wait to see how he goes in the next few WFA races against the likes of Theseo and other WFA maggots before i re-evaluate him, as he's already proven that he is up to substandard WFA races. BUT if he keeps defying racing patterns, and running handy times at distances he isn't overly suited, THEN i will re-evaluate him. Bar all that, if he can beat Sirmione on his merits in a truly run Australian Cup, he gets instant upgrading in status.

Any speccing for the Newmarket lads? I took 50-1 about Nicconi before his first and second up demolition jobs, but unfortunately he is headed to the Guineas.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Leysy backed Nicconi last start, he looks a very impressive type doesnt he. The stable have very big wraps from all reports.

Guineas is his race. He'll handle Fravashi & Whobegotyou looks up against it after injury.
Desuetude the danger if he comes down for leysy.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Thought the fields today were disappointing. Particularly the mares G2 WFA race where there are a combination of mid-weekers and off season horses running. If Princess Marizza wasn't such a nonnie, she would be a certainty.

Backed the Hussler today on Betfair. $1.8 seemed great shopping. Last time I lumped on at such a short price was on the Huss as well. And he promptly spanked them in the Oakleigh Plate. The Hussler has proven one thing at this early stage of his career. He is a 1200m superstar. It's the journeys beyond where his champion status is questionable IMO. Interesting to see whether they lead on him. I'd prefer him to take the sit.

The Cat is an interesting one. Has been badly placed (and trained) his entire career. This prep has had two uncharacteristically bad failures up the Flemington straight, where he appeared to *smile* around for large portions of the race. In the G1 race in HK, he *smile* around again and wanted to lay in(or out?) and switched off at a critical time of the race, still almost won. Probably a tad insulting to have Time Thief ahead of him in the betting.

Smart thinking by Freedman to place Time Thief in the race IMO. 3yos are very much suited at this time of year at WFA and perhaps Freedman is thinking Time Thief is a significantly superior colt to Wilander, who dead heated with the unlucky Huss in the lightning. Can see the logic behind this race selection.

Anyone having a bet in the feature?

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Melbourne
Futurity noise is all Alamrosa - they might be right but I will not be on it - maybe Niconero e/w
The JRA is a wide open affair - Sound Journey has gone from the Price stable to the Kavanagh stable and has a gear change first up - Bonded had a good win in the Hareeba @ Mornington - Fav Nine Tales has been racing well in inferior company - and Tetsu Gama had a strong win @ Caulfield 2 starts back

Sydney
Hobartville has plenty in it with a show - Mic Mac was a Big Winner last start can he run the Sydney way of going? - Youthful Jack (a tad short for me 2/1 @ the time of posting) Sousa, Caymans and Marchinski form have attracted my eye.
The Millie Fox is as wide open as the Sydney Harbour Heads - looking @ Diana Cazadora for an international upset- Jewelled Gate show promise - and Dance Girls Dance is in good form up north.

NSW Southern Tablelands horses travelling to Sydney today are Deejay Brahms SR6 big step up in class - Belong To Many SR8 Fav and the Baroness of Bombala, Barbara Joseph has this mare firing - For Cruyffs Sake SR9 is being aimed at the Sydney Cup and will run well according to the stable - Macknuckle SR9 is in good form and should make his presence felt

Anybody have any horse they particularly like today?

Niconero was my fancy...and of course Hey Rosie.

Condolences to Craig, and the Newitt family, on the tragic death of his Dad in a car accident. A brave ride by Craig to finish 2nd on Light Fantastic considering it was straight after he'd received the sad news. :(

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I see Orange County is racing again, in the Newmarket no less. Didn't BMS retire him last year?

I'll probably have nibble at the each-way price. Good field though. Should be a cracking race.

That was my mistake. As you suggested at the time the friend who passed the info on to me, after talking to BMS, got his wires crossed between Orange County and Maybe Better.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks. So, I've confused myself into thinking he was retired after I corrected you that he wasn't retired? Jeez, I must be losing my mind. Oh, well, I'll be getting on board on Saturday. Bit short for him but looks to have been fair effort in the Aust Stakes. You never know...

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

One of leysy's favs Road to Rock each way all day in the Aus cup. Currently 12's.

Should be a great days racing at the track.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I've only got as far as race 1 and also like Miss Twoicee.  Pretty good odds with 3 minutes to go butt hat will probably change.  Currently 9.40 and 3.00 on the tAB.

We were going to the races today but had to pull out.  Best wishes and well deserved good luck to all the CFA members who are guests for the day.

Edit...seems Miss Twoicee was 9 bucks for a reason. :blah

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Looking forward to the Newmarket today 23 (biggest field I can rmember is it) rattling down the straight six going at top speed.

Plenty of value in the race, Northern Meteor may be my pick with Time Thief but may search for some value in Typhoon Zed, Swick.

Might go for MIss Scarlatti in Race 4
Baughurst in Australia Cup in trifecta with Theseo, Zarita, Niconero and Master O
In Guineas Von Costa Hero and Dr Doutes, Dr Doutes is in terrible form but will be tempted by the odds and Flemington track it likes.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Thanks to a tip from Blood17, and also being the selection of the tipster on Sky I had a good win on Kavinsky in the 2nd race. I'll put a few sheckles on Brad in the 3rd, even though Rostova is hot favourite.

Massive effort by Scenic Blast with all that weight on board.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Any punters out there make sure you tune into Sky at midnight every night this week for the greatest racing carnival in the world - The Cheltenham Jumps festival.

Broadcast here for the first time. Its great stuff.

The Irish come over & plunge there jumpers at the exclusion of all else. Cleaned up the first two last night.

The noise & celebration shown to the winning horse & rider after any of the major races is amazing.

Form can be had here-

www.racingpost.com then click betting site & cheltenham on the top left.

The public build a great affinity with the horses because they run around for years.

Leysy was backing a nag running in the main race tonight - The Champion Chase called Well Chief when he was in the UK in 03' & 04'.
