Leysy's also gunna take the Mick Price advice & back the noted milk drinker Schilling. Been gelded & changed its whole attitude around from all reports. Can do wonders for a horse when it loses its aggards.

Some must get slower as well.

Bloody oath JB. Never again on that thing. Folded up as quick as it used when it had the ol' janglies.

very quiet leadup to the lightning on here today.

Leysy's never been a Hussler backer, mainly due to the price. Cant believe the odds he's getting out to today.
Might get close to 6/4 the way its going. Clearly a better sprinter than these. The Cat has lost a bot of ping & more a 1400 metre horse these days ILO.

Was on track today and backed both those. If I knew Lesys was on both I would have jumped ship. ;D

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Ahhh the Lightning. Interesting.

Typical G1 WFA race with NO SPEED on. If I recall correctly they ran something like 56.9 and came home in 33. *smile* it pisses me off. Regardless, Scenic Blast kicked the *smile* out of them.

The Hussler was slaughtered by Brad. Hard to imagine him not beating Typhoon Zed and Grand Duels with clear running. But while the Hussler has spanked Scenic Blast on all three previous occasions they met, it's hard to imagine Scenic Blast not winning the race, based on the demoliton job he turned in. Arnold couldn't hold him at the 400 when he started to amble up to them. When Arnold asked him for the supreme effort, it became an annihilation. Entitled to be the favourite for the Newmarket after that win.

Swick was typically unlucky and slaughtered by M.Rodd. A very impressive effort by him. Found himself about 6 off the leader at the 400. Only beaten 2L. The poor bloke just can't get a genuine tempo up his preferred straight course.

Anyone like the look of that Fair Trade bloke? Smashed the 3yo 3rd graders at his 2nd start. Bit of hype about him now. 3rd favourite for the guineas, ahead of proven top line 3yo colts, Von Costa DH and Time Thief. I can't help but think of Playwright's similar win in the CS Hayes last year and how poorly he has raced since.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Good writeup as always Gyps.

Scenic Blast - Nice Win. Can be a very handy horse early in a campaign that one. Trust Leysy to get on the champ & get bad luck in the run for ppossibly the first time ever. Though as you say, mightn't have got the winner anyway. Leysy wouldnt take any short odds on the Blast as he gets deep into his campaign.

On Swick, very good straight horse. But the rider cant expect horses to loaf & cheat out the back waiting for the others to put in & cut each others throat & the leaders to run home in 34+ over sprint distances so they can win. It will rarely happen.

On Fair Trade, nice horse. One thing he has on Playwright, he puts himself in the race, has a turn of foot & can run time. Whether he's up to Group 1. Dunno. But he'll give punters every chance.

The racings starting to hot up. Bring on the Orr, looks to suit Light Fantastic nicely.

Should be a good Autumn. Leysy can't wait.

The wind op may help Scenic Blast hold his form... which i think was discovered as the reason for his dismal Memsie flop in the spring. But still, you make an interesting point.

They've opened LF at $3.50. I might get on him for the first time since he demolished that filly Gibraltar Campion at that price. Entitled to be much shorter IMO.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

C'mon Gyps. LF couldn't even beat the third string sprinters first up which last prep tells us is will be his best run of his campaign. Should be 10's. Don't listen to the leysy hype.

Throw those 10's up on betfair then sunshine. Leysy will be ready to snaffle it.

I would prefer to win more than $6.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

My main issue is about the quality of the field. El Segundo is a 7f star resuming from a serious injury. Von Costa De Hero is a top tier 3yo who may be an improver. I don't really think the others are G1 WFA horses (excluding Sirmione over 2000m at Flemington).

LF's Liston Stakes win at the course over Weekend Hussler, Maldivian and Alamosa (All subsequent G1 winners) entitles him to be about $2.50 in the race.

Too busy paying out many others on Betfair I'd suggest.

Did you miss Niconero in the field gyps?

Heh heh leys's laying service continues to provide. Why of all people does leysy get caught up in the hype?

And I expected better from you Gyps.

He was massive unders. And he's not much chop.

Disappointing performance from LF. 2nd up though, so unfortunately he can't be condemned. No excuses for his next start.

I only mentioned Niconero as I thought from memory you were a fan.

Remember they said that about LF after his fourth second up last prep.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Just a reminder for you Gyps, this is what the excuse makers said last time.

Second up, mate. He gets a price next time they meet if he's right. LF didn't go a yard today. We got any sectionals yet? I'd have guessed 62 sec and 33.7. I don't even know the gross time.

LF was a bit like Footscray on Friday night. The thing they have going for them is that they did absolutely nothing. They couldn't get any worse.

Here leysy is JB,

Great win by the hustler, gee that was an awfully slow time. Played right into WH'ers hands as he's undoubtedly got the best sprint in the land.

LF had an off day as we all do. He went past WH, Maldivian & Alamosa first up & they all finished within a length or so of each other at the next start so the form held up.

Whether he didnt settle (he did pull) or was flat after a tough 1st up run not sure but he's come home far quicker than that off far faster paces before. The Hustler'll be tough to roll but leysy'll backup again on him when we head out in two weeks to see if he can get back ahead from the current 1-1 ledger.

And this was your sage summary.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

All I can say is get on Angry Cat.

I'm friends with one of the part owners sister.

Been racing up country and going great guns, Running well down here......Won last start.
At Moonee Valley last Friday, Was paying $16 put $35 on it..............BOOOOM i'm picking up $560.

Keep ya eye out.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Well, LF did turn the tables on that handy mare last start. Maybe he is better than Zarita after all?

Maldivian defied the pattern in the Orr Stakes and was too good. WFA racing is in serious trouble when an Easter cup winnner is the star. I mean, even Baughurst ran a cracking race! A Werribee cup winner FFS!

LF will go to the mile now in the Futurity where he is suspect. His win in the guineas came over two horses (Playwright and Marching) who are proven to be no where near the top level. (Although Playwright's effort behind Red Element on the weekend was much improved)

I think it's incredibly likely that LF is being badly handled. Price stated early on in the campaign that the Newmarket was a good go. Perhaps the owners have interfered. Perhaps Price thinks he is a sprinter. His run in the Carlyon suggests that he is.

In the Spring, people were suggesting that LF was the same class as WH. Which is nonsense. But he does appear to be a similar class to those maggots that beat him home in the Orr. And they are the best going around at the moment. Very sad.

A fan out of necessity if anything. I was absolutely mad on him in the Emirates at 50-1, as I thought the field was even lower than Maldivian class. All Silent may be a smarty.
