Thoroughbred racing

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

On the internationals.

Cumani is also very switched on. He is giving his horses a run here to acclimatise. But just as importantly is bringing horses down that are lightly raced unexposed horses with talent that are down in the weights.
Purple Moon & Mad Rush have been his two.

The other important factors are weight relief & bringing 2400m horses that have some ping rather than the ascot gold cup 4,000m grinders. Most now realise this.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Sirmione, Zipping, Maldivian, Master O'Reilly & Princess Coup your winner is in that five the rest can't win. Theseo, Raheeb, Gallant Tess this is meant to be the premier WFA race in the country it is absolute rubbish this year. Everyone arc'd up when Dane Ripper was put in the field she'd brain those three.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

You guys are being a bit hard on the internationals.

They have regularly run places (or won) at big odds and All the Good just won the Caulfield Cup at 50-1.

In recent years:
2007 Purple Moon 2nd, Mahler 3rd
2006 Delta Blues 1st, Pop Rock 2nd (note Makybe Diva got its arse kicked in Japan)
2004 Vinnie Roe 2nd
2003 Jardine's Lookout 3rd
2002 Beekeeper 3rd
2001 Give The Slip 2nd, Persian Punch 3rd
1999 Central Park 2nd
1998 Persian Punch 3rd

So in fact, the opposite argument to leaving them out of your trifectas is true and you should at least include them all for at least the places.

Re The Cox Plate: Clearly the worst field in recent memory. Where are those discretianary powers the club has. I seem to remember them leaving out a Caulfield Cup winner once.

I can't see a deserved winner there, WFA ranks must be cactus if Sirmione is the headliner.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I really like the way the barrier draw was done today.

Agree with the feedback on the Cox this week. Won't stop my dishing out some hard earned.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

BMS told a mutual friend that Orange County was injured and has been retired.

That's a shame. He was a handy galloper.

Another G1 winner cut down by injury. Real shortage of talent at the moment. Perhaps it's the year for the 3yo filly.

Shame about Orange County. Glad he went out a Gr1 winner.

It's already the year for the 3yo filly. She's favourite. Hope she wins. Will at least provide something memorable from this atrocious Plate.

That gunna horse Largo Lad looks well priced in the Geelong Cup. Drops five kgs from the Yalumba. He's been costly but reckon tomorrow could be his day. I'll be on.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I think Largo Lad will be scratched today and run in the Moonee Valley Cup. The wide barrier brought this about. I'm very sad to hear about Orange County, Rosy, as I tipped him just about every time he raced from his first start.

True. With a such a poor year it may be best that that the 3yo filly wins and goes on to be a great. Then we can look back and and not have to cringe that the Plate was won by a substandard horse.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

FWIW, dropped in to my brother The Punting Tiger last Wednesday who lives and breathes punting on horses. Asked him for specials in the spring racing, he said that there wasn't much Aus talent and he would be looking at imports and NZ horses. and look what won the CC, despite given 'no chance' in the SMH? I didn't back it of course. Anyway that endorses whats being said here on the thread. Normally I get right into spring races, finding it hard this year.

JB I remember that Trifecta with Central Park second paid $50K !!!! Field/ field/ field costs $5K odd.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Agree, worst Cox Plate field ever. I'll probably have a go at Zipping, more in hope than anything.

Top Fluctuation was $4.40 x 10 = $44.00 - $20 outlay = $24 win and remittance to PRE Admin.

The payment has been credited Remote. Thanks for your continued generosity towards PRE. :)

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I might have to apologise for posting wrong info then Jake. The friend isn't a racing fan and could well have got his wires crossed. I certainly hope so.

No apology needed Rosy, I think it might be an omen bet for PRE this Saturday.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

At the huge risk of making a complete fool of myself, can I say I'm tipping C'est La Guerre to win the Cox Plate? :help

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

I'm in the same boat Blood but tipping the stablemeate Zipping. Just shows how much the field has slipped this year. Never thought I would ever tip him to win a race let alone a Cox Plate. Reckon he will be in right spot at the run - off the pace but not wide or too far back, happy to risk the two girls (Princess Coup and Samantha Miss).

Don't like horses either coming back in distance (Maldivian, Master O'Reilly) or horses going up in distance (Samantha Miss, Raheeb, Alamato, Theseo, Gallant Tess) leaving Sirmione (last run was horrible), C'est La Guerre (better suited over a bit more ground) Princess Coup (obvious danger) and Zarita (not sure)

Still think Whobegotyou would have started favourite and would probably win.

Good luck with your punting to all.

Possibly mistook Orange County for Maybe Better, who definitely has been retired.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

That's the most likely scenario eh, STC? Good news anyway.

Kavanagh is a carnie. How the *smile* can he run Whobegotyou over the same distance, at the same track, and on the same day as the Cox Plate? Just ridiculous. He doesn't want to overtax the horse at this early stage of his career, yet his primary goal for the horse is the Victoria Derby. Now Mick Price (a trainer recognised as very astute on this thread) believes that particular race isn't in most horse's interest due to the high stress it places on them.

This decision is as stupid as Lloyd's decision not to run Zipping in the Caulfield Cup. Bunglers. And carnies. Everywhere.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Yeah its hard to explain eh!

He's gunna run the horse over 2500 as a 3yo yet wont run him over 2000 with 6 or whatever it is kgs less.
All in a year where the Cox is at its lowest ebb known.

See he's putting blinkers on Mal, who's been putting himself in races but never finishing off. Zabeels with blinkers 1st time are notorious for finding lengths. You couldnt tip him with any conviction, but dint underestimate that gear change.
