Let's hope you aren't a Jonah, Tiger Force!!!!!!
Very clever, Blood. :hihi
The highlight of last weekend's racing was the Sale Cup - Number 15 or whatever - Crabs... was scratched.
Okay. Last weekend's racing, the lowlight - The Soff Cox Plate. Bang. Bang. That was one bullet for each of us, Rosy. Me and the mongrel. BTW if your family ever finds out you've backed Sirmione they can get power of attorney in any court in the land. So keep it quiet, friends. I've got winners to back.
Danny Nackerlick had a whinge after the race that best horse didn't win. Well, that would be your fault if you feel that way, Nackerlick as you were the one who let Rodd proctologise you. Surely in light of his comments Danny has forgone his riding fee. He earned but a knackery fee. And how.
But History was well served by The One Man Knackery's ride. (Lucky I couldn't organise that horrific toilet fall, eh?) Because if Zipping, a midweeker when in white hot form, had won this Cox Plate it immedialtely became the worst of the modern era.
But Danny's was by no means the worst ride in the race. It was only a year or so back that Glenn Boss was in form as good as any jockey's ever in my memory. But that don't make his ride on the filly in the CP anything but carnage. How, when the leader (a full adult male) is cutting a 1:30 1400, can you get a horse carrying 48kg six lengths off the lead? There was only one place for Glenn Boss to be. Before, during and after the race. One place. He had to slot on the leader's back. Legless mongrels like Savabeel have won the race from there. And handy 3yos have run flattering placings from there for eons.
If he places her on the leader's back she runs at worst second. (Okay probably no better than that.) But not third. Glenn Boss? Dodgem Car bandit.
Maldivian was a merciful result. A second rate galloper who was head and shoulders above the others. And lengths ahead.
Sea Battle. There are two Sea Battles. The one that sits up second or third, or even leads, is a good Saturday handicapper capable of running placings in weakish group handicaps. As he did in the Toorak. But the real Sea Battle, prior to the Waterford, we'd only seen once. He sits back and joins in with a withering and sustained burst. That horse is a group horse as he showed with his demolition on Saturday. There is little doubt in my mind that if he'd been ridden as Alamosa was in the Toorak he'd have won it.
Sea Battle is a Two-face. One way he's ugly and the other he's mighty stylish. And this type is pretty rare. But my Sea Battle observations apply equally to Baughurst. Another Two-face. Ridden close on the speed he barely gets 2000m. A good Saturday handicapper etc. But as we saw when he demolished them a fortnight ago, if ridden back he has a powerful finish.
Jamie Mott slaughtered Baughurst in the MV Cup. Chanceless after 200m. He strolled to the front at the 150 and promptly died in the arse, beaten by the notorious mongrel Gallopin. Had Mott slotted back in the field, his horse, a little query at a mile and a half, would have won easily IMO, would have kicked the living daylights out of Gallopin. The result was more about the difference in class between Winks and Mott than Baughurst and Gallopin.
That said I still have a tiny doubt about Baughurst at the staying journeys. But while Mott is destroying his chances I can't be sure. Watch for the real Baughurst (the second face) before making up your mind. Id' spec him in the MC in a heartbeat if I knew he'd be ridden right.
Lucky maggot was too good in the sprint. Quite an indictment of those behind. But he's always been a dishonest galloper and maybe he's learned to race. I doubt it- he's just not much good. But you've got to be careful with this type. When they put it all together they can go right on. Still, if you lead at the Valley over the sprint and can't win they shoot you. Or they should. Lucky for this maggot I never have.
Just to leave you on a positive note - Crabs was scratched. What a weekend.
