Thoroughbred racing

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Littorio the safe bet for me. Dolphin Jo wonderful value. Imagine he was trained by Freedman or Hayes. Would be a quarter the price. And half that with Oliver on board.

Tough card.

Took Biscayne Bay at odds.

Perhaps MK will trust in Nifty to get Miles Above over the line.

Would like to Gypsy but might just have a quiet dollar myself on it as not as confident to use pre money on it.

My two favourite chances in the day for you RT are
$10 win R6 n1 Mimi Lebrock

will go on the cup as well
$10 win r8 n12 Littorio

Really like Littorio , the Hustler too much of a risk at $5
Think there is some value in Red Ruler, Boundless if NZ form is any good, Riva San
Will go maybe a trifecta with Littorio one out and 2/3/7/9/13/14/16/18 for 2nd and 3rd

others I like
r3 n1 Tindal
r4 n7 Miles Above
r5 n7 Pinnacles
r7 n7 Musket
r9 n1 Grand Duels

Happy punting, hope I am in the chair next week.

Good luck today and I hope you're in the chair for many more weeks. Maybe we need to change the seat-covers. None of us seem like to sitting there too long. ;D

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

All the Good has been penalised 2kgs for his Caulfield Cup win. He will now carry 55kgs in the Melbourne Cup.

Here is the latest order of entry for the Melbourne Cup.

http://www.ozracing.net.au/OZRacing/viewfile.aspx?FileName=0411FLEM.DGW

Onto the Caulfield Cup.

They ran 2-27.45 with the last 600 in 35.80. Can’t complain about the pace. I wouldn’t say they went ballistic, but based on the performances of the horses who settled in the 2nd half of the field, I think it’s fair to say the race was truly run.

Barbaricus did a stack of work and entered the first bend 5 deep. He raced no closer than 3 wide until the 1400m mark where S.Baster allowed him to stride to a clear lead. Ensuring they didn’t dawdle.

It appears as though All the Good raced wide throughout the race, with McEvoy revving him up nice and early at about the 800 metre mark. All the Good tracked Dolphin Jo throughout before peeling off his back at the 600 to commence his run to have him about 6 wide on the turn and in 5th postion after settling around 12th. He was entitled to get very tired in the final furlong. It was a fantastic effort to sustain the run considering the run he had. Despite the 2kg penalty, All the Good is entitled to be favourite for the Melbourne Cup. I know that Frankie Dettorie is now likely to ride, but surely that doesn’t justify relegating him from the logical favourite to having him as the 5th elect.

Nom Du Jeu tracked Littorio on the bend and then proceeded to give him a cold for the 2nd time, despite carrying 2.5kgs more than him. Steven King (Littorio) was hopeful rather than optimistic of improvement when the horse gets backed to Flemington.

Mad Rush was absolutely bolting at the end of the race after threading through the field in straight. The Ollie factor really hurts the price though. Currently 2nd elect.

Barbaricus was an absolutely massive run considering the amount of work he had to do. Probably a massive indictment on the quality of the field.

Still planning to spec Dolphin Jo in the Melbourne Cup should he sneak a run, and maybe have some doubles with him, after he raced wide without cover throughout. Hopefully that's the end of Ms.C.Lindop being on top of him!

Leysy was prob gunna anchor Sunburnt Lad in his quaddie. The form around his 1st up win (Sea Battle) is very strong. In well at the weights & prime draw. Looks nailed on.

Leysy was expecting no more than $3. First markets are at $3.80. Think they might have it wrong.
Leysy's considering an early lash. Should he?

Sunburnt Land got out to $5.50 on track. Money for old rope. Far too good for that lot & sets up leysy for a nice spring.

Gyps/Jack did you back Biscayne Bay e/w & at what price. did you get the early price, 35's was it??

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Well done, Leysy.

Yeh I backed him... took the Tote price in the end. Waltzed into the tab before cricket expecting the 35s to still be there, but no.

Got Pacino home each way at 1,000,000-1. Ended up being a good day.

Did you get the $5.50, Leysy? He was too good for them. Really versatile sprinter by the looks of things. Can settle anywhere.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Good day for some.

THree legs of the quaddie for this little black duck. All the Good my arse.

Same here but i missed out on Baughurst that's the 2nd time in just over a month he's done me out of a quaddie. Had a little each way All the Good but only just came out in front as i launched on Master O'Reilly in the same race. For me the cup isn't headed back to Europe i think the media is going way over the top with the internationals. Look at the tape there's enough there to suggest we'll give it a shake. If it's wet look out for Viewed his was a nice little trial for the big day.

As for the Cox Plate the worst field to be assembled almost in the history of this race. Any of the past 25 winners would spank this lot. Saying that i'll jump on Master O'Reilly again if they back him up. Just no champions amongst them that's for sure.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

Fair call there Cogs. The internationals do look strong but some of the better locals might get out to silly odds if the current media spruik continues. Especially Matt Stewart in the Sun.

Agree on the Cox. Shambles of a race. The two shorties have convictions for there price. Master o'reilly is a blowout chance but they'll have to run along. Even the mare Zarita might be an each way bet.

Ha Ha, Pacino. Forgot about that. Thought you might have dropped off. Well done for sticking. He's a funny nag.

On Sunburnt. Backed him earlier at $4.80. He's top quality that fellow & the stable have a massive opinion.

Know its aftertiming, but had backed Mimi Lebrock (amazing how many times the class mare wins those SWP mares races) & Baughurst, an old fav who's flying so was cashed up so went for more at the $5.50 on Sunburnt. Great day.

Matt Stewart can't tie his own shoes together he is an absolute knob jockey. Look at the stats excluding the Japanese there have been 65 european horses for two wins hardly a great strike rate is it?

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

On the Cox Plate how anyone can back Samantha Miss coming off a 3 and a half week break first go at 2000m you'd be mad. The sydney fillies form is up the creek aoart from Glowlamp the rest failed in the Thousand Guineas would Samantha Miss beat Gallica? A stayer will win this year back something that's won or run well at 2400 or further the class isn't there the stronger horses will fill the placings.

His record at 2000 was extremely impressive. Had a little something each way on him the start before, but had been waiting for the correct journey.

RE: The internationals (excluding Japanese and New Zealanders).

I've got a simple policy about these blokes, don't back them, as they aren't much chop. The only international I'd even get semi interested in is Profound Beauty, as Weld does seem to have some idea what it takes to win down here. Hopefully the ridiculous media spruik you mentioned leysy continues. So then we can back the locals at ridiculous prices.

RE: The Cox

Agree, Cogs. Never seen one this bad. I think the Cox Plate is pretty good at providing the worthy winner, year in year out. Here are the last 10 winners.

2007: El Segundo (annihilated a bunch of average 4yos in Wonderful Word, Haradahype, Miss Finland and Devil Moon)
2006: Fields of Omagh (came from behind and went around the subsequent 2007 winner El Segundo, had previously beaten Defier and Lonhro in the race)
2005: Makybe Diva
2004: Savabeel (maggot)
2003: Fields of Omagh
2002: Northerly
2001: Northerly
2000: Sunline
1999: Sunline
1998: Might and Power

So with the exception of Savabeel all have been very worthy winners, and are proven WFA stars.

The best performed WFA horse in the field, is Sirmione. By an absolute mile. He is a Mackinnon Stakes winner, and an emphatic Australian Cup winner when he destroyed the favourite. (I know she was unlucky, but the margin was four lengths FFS. Granted both wins were at Flemington. But I was extremely impressed by his run in the Feehan (the traditional CP lead up)... when he sprinted the entire 1600m out wide. Naturally Mertens was sacked after this effort.

The fav has only won WFA events in New Zealand. Which I've disregarded.

Yet people still queue up to spruik and back them every year. Love them. Hopefully they never stop coming down.

Re: Thoroughbred Horse Racing [Merged]

They've paid up. Here is the field.

I hate to say it, but outside of Sirmione, I'm actually seriously entertaining the thought of backing Maldivian.

And apart from her poor run in the Turnbull, Zarita's form has been good enough for this *smile*. She is probably down in class.
