Ha Ha, Pacino. Forgot about that. Thought you might have dropped off. Well done for sticking. He's a funny nag.
His record at 2000 was extremely impressive. Had a little something each way on him the start before, but had been waiting for the correct journey.
RE: The internationals (excluding Japanese and New Zealanders).
I've got a simple policy about these blokes, don't back them, as they aren't much chop. The only international I'd even get semi interested in is Profound Beauty, as Weld does seem to have some idea what it takes to win down here. Hopefully the ridiculous media spruik you mentioned leysy continues. So then we can back the locals at ridiculous prices.
RE: The Cox
Agree, Cogs. Never seen one this bad. I think the Cox Plate is pretty good at providing the worthy winner, year in year out. Here are the last 10 winners.
2007: El Segundo (annihilated a bunch of average 4yos in Wonderful Word, Haradahype, Miss Finland and Devil Moon)
2006: Fields of Omagh (came from behind and went around the subsequent 2007 winner El Segundo, had previously beaten Defier and Lonhro in the race)
2005: Makybe Diva
2004:
Savabeel (maggot)
2003: Fields of Omagh
2002: Northerly
2001: Northerly
2000: Sunline
1999: Sunline
1998: Might and Power
So with the exception of Savabeel all have been very worthy winners, and are proven WFA stars.
The best performed WFA horse in the field, is Sirmione. By an absolute mile. He is a Mackinnon Stakes winner, and an emphatic Australian Cup winner when he destroyed the favourite. (I know she was unlucky, but the margin was four lengths FFS. Granted both wins were at Flemington. But I was extremely impressed by his run in the Feehan (the traditional CP lead up)... when he sprinted the entire 1600m out wide. Naturally Mertens was sacked after this effort.
The fav has only won WFA events in New Zealand. Which I've disregarded.

Matt Stewart can't tie his own shoes together he is an absolute knob jockey. Look at the stats excluding the Japanese there have been 65 european horses for two wins hardly a great strike rate is it?
Yet people still queue up to spruik and back them every year. Love them. Hopefully they never stop coming down.
