I'm truly shattered, loved him so much.

Goodbye Mr Ali, the world will never forgot you.

Ditto. A poet, a warrior, a dancer, a comedian. A civil rights activist, hero to millions and arguably the most charismatic man who ever lived.

Well written and said Spook and Chiangmai Mai.

Amazing that he fought for so long. Just showed his tremendous and strength in adversity.

Sad day !

R.I.P. The Black Superman.

His speed was amazing.

The most interesting man ever. A life lived.

Teared up when the news came through.

Channel 7 news tried their best to spurt out 'racism' when editing the 1979 incident at the Logies with Bert.....tried.

Revisionism is the Left's specialty. Give it enough time and Cook will become a sinister figure in Australian history.

R.I.P., Muhammad Ali.

Channel 7, that well-known radical left organisation.

I agree, he didn't know the cultural implication for a black American. It wasn't racist.

Yet two forms of media have portrayed the comment as "racist". It's the very definition of revisionism.

Just tell the truth, goddammit.

Greed is a hard disease to break.

Death of a true hero for so many reasons. What a loss.

If you've never had the chance to see Rumble in the Jungle go and find a copy now. Smart, witty, funny and a hell of an athlete.

Smoking Joe was twice the human being that Ali ever was from my pov. He and his family were forced to endure years of racist remarks after Ali characterized him as a gorilla. Being black Ali knew very well how hurtful that was yet continued to belittle Frazier in racist terms. Ali was at times a prick who floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee.

I always thought that the whole thing was staged. Listen to how they calmed Ali down. Why on earth would he accept the explanation that Newton said 'Roy', not 'boy'? It doesn't even make sense.
RIP Muhammad. One of the greatest sportsmen ever, and for more than what he did in the sporting arena, too.

Great article on his life, both the good and the bad, here.

Nothing was as staged in those days as it is now, although, even I still wonder someone yelled out 'Roy' instead of 'Boy' and Ali put a sarcastical angry expression on his face. It was even funnier how Bert went defensive and yet still let out a "I'll change religion" line to Ali.....classic.

These were the days when comedy was at it's best especially between these two quick-witted blokes.

Bert's the last of the great ad libbers left. He and Kennedy were capable of turning almost any situation around in front of the camera. It came from coming up in the early days of TV when if you couldn't think on your feet, you didn't survive.
