Re: To win or not to win - Draft pics V late season wins

We know you'd be happy to tank all year long Claude - that's you, then there are footy clubs.......................

Go Tiges........every week (except perhaps the last game of the season - if it matters)

Re: To win or not to win - Draft pics V late season wins

Hi Everyone, this is my first post on PRE so please forgive me if I stuff it up. In terms of the choice to win or not to win, I think it will be important to go out and try and win every game for the rest of the season. I believe that there is more to be gained for us in the long term for the playing group, coaching staff, club morale etc to do everything possible to win.

Playing the best team possible with every player trying to win at all costs will allow a new coach to make a better informed decision as to the make up of the playing group if the new coach knows the players went out and gave it 100%. I'd prefer "winning" than a new coach trying to second guess the ability of a playing list finishing low on the ladder in order to maximise their draft potential.

At this time in our history, I think we need to take calculated steps to steer this club away from where we have been for far far too long. Winning at all costs is just the beginning.

when you start beating decent opposition in big games.

the only possible conclusion i can come to from reading this post is you think we have the cattle and thus dont need early picks. good for you. i hope you enjoy the culture.

Thanks for your warm welcome Rosy & TigerBob. I've been reading these posts for so long I'm glad to have the opportunity to finally contribute.

Re: To win or not to win - Draft pics V late season wins

what a poll and here i was worried the deluded ones were greatly thinning in their ranks.

we must have an awesome list to throw away a top 2 pick and a pp as well. im looking forward to top 4 at least next yr.

Those who are saying they want late wins are mainly proponents for the notion that improvement can come just as much from development as getting high draft picks, which is hardly deluded. The evidence in favour of the importance of development combined with smart recruiting is greater than that for tanking.

Re: To win or not to win - Draft pics V late season wins

Majority seem to think that our list is good enough to make a sustained challenge for finals footy and all we need is confidence and a good coach.

Nothing really changes.

Cattle people, cattle.

Yep, we need to change the cattle in the yard big time. Play the kids.

we don't have many kids left. Post, Connors, and that's about it.

JoN, maybe if you were being generous you could count Thompson, but that's it for players that realistically are anywhere near senior selection.

Re: To win or not to win - Draft pics V late season wins

When is the club and its supporters going to realise that the list is ordinary and that we need to inject more class and that the only way to do it is by bottoming out properly. Never it seems. Enjoy the 9th-10th position at the end of the year folks.

Re: To win or not to win - Draft pics V late season wins

Thomson, Post, Connors, Browne, Gourdis that's all we have. We know what the rest have to offer. Just bring them in even if its against bottom four sides. That way we enjoy a full youth policy, get to see the kids and those that want losses will get losses.

firstly there is no way we will win enough to finish 9-10th - have you even bothered to look at our draw?

secondly, no-one is saying our list is there, and most people are talking of delisting 6-10 at years end (and thats before they even factor in any trade opportunities).

what people have been saying, which you keep ignoring, is we will get more value playing kids - and if they win, great. also we need to focus more on developing these kids. we keep saying we have duds, but how much of it is due to the player, and how much due to the fact we have not properly developed the players to their best?

finally from your final statement, does that mean you are no longer a tiger's supporter (given it will be "our" team not yours that you think will finish 9-10th)? If so, I wish you luck with your next team, hopefully they tank sufficiently to keep you happy.

Thomson has been injured and Browne/Gourdis are on the Rookie list. Connors is therefore the only one immediately eligable, and his last effort at senior level was that of complete indifference. Don't mind playing kids, but they have to want to be there.

No we think we need more resources in development to properly develop the players we have coupled with smart recruiting.

When are you going to realize that there's more than 1 way to skin a cat, that only 1 club has won a premiership after bottoming out and that was as much to do with an extremely astute recruitment of a Coach and List Manager as to do with its bottoming out.

Melbourne have top 2 picks sewn up so it's not even a possibility. The only priority we can receive this year is a second rounder, which would be nice, admittedly, but unlikely. Apparently next year all priorities are out so is it really that crucial to have less than 5 wins?

The most important thing is to just draft well and draft often with any pick, whether it's pick 5 or pick 75!

Nope.
