we've done both in the last decade.
clearly neither is working...

all i can say is that
1. i'm sick of collingwood playing finals
and
2. the thought of carlton being in the top 8 *smile* irritates me.

too right rokin but like many on here have said lets embrace the draft, keep our early pics and trade into some draft pics by off loading some players how else are we going to build a side capable of playing finals, yep we've got some nice talent on our list that we know but they need support and to think some were happy for the club to win some meaningless games and inturn climb the ladder, a top 3 pic beckons now, well need freo to beat melb 2moro and top 3 is almost assured....

clarkson built a core group with youngsters and only traded when he thought the list was ready for finals. clarkson has taken just 3 retreads in his time at the club.
guerra in the psd gilham as a rookie who was an original 2nd rnd pick. was delisted by port because of an abundance of kpds. stuart dew was taken at 45 in 07. their retreads have cost them little to me there in lies the key.you always keep your early picks and trade with late and psd picks.if you can trade into an early pick and then trade into a player with that pick fine you have kept your first rounder.

stkilda under lyon has gone for a few retreads. the key here is they were already a finals side they have been regular finals team since 04.

your making to much sense here claw, agree whole heartedly

2. My youngest (4 year old) has been a member since he was born also and he's already making eyes at (uuuugh!!)......Collingwood.

Hmm I guess after todays game you're probably saying goodbye to your youngest.

I bet all those in favour of 'late season wins' are just wrapt with the new winning culture that these wins have brought to the club. We dont need talent, we just need guys who have learn't how to win - just like they have shown over the past few weeks.

A winning culture...mmmm it feels good. :rofl

Now people will realize that those wins v ess and melb mean nothing and as a result we lost the priority pick.

On the bright side is that we are now certain to finish 15th so we get pick 3 in the national draft.

im seeing the biggest farce in football, melb playing like they really want to win, playing like their lives depend on it well of course they can still win and get their pics 1 and 2...Freo playing like a team that knows if they win they jump over us and miss out on their preferred target Morabito...

One thing is for sure had melb beaten us a few weeks back and gone into todays match with 16 pts there would be no way in hell that they would set out to win today, just to much on offer....there lies this farce can anyone really say had melb gone into todays match on 16 pts would they really want to win and throw away their Priority Pic No 1, effectively handing over Tom Scully to Freo?

Tigers are still an outside chance for pick #1. If McMahon had missed would almost be a lock.

Would have depended on how Melbourne were allowed to play today. No way they were going to give the pp up.

JB never would we get pic 1, even had melb beaten us we would still be on 18 pts and melb 16, no way they would set out today to win, it wouldnt happen mate, they're not that stupid they're playing this game to a tee....As claw says and even harry something we shouldve done ourselves last year and this year to maximize our draft pics...

Would anyone mind having Rich, Natanui, Scully and Trengove thats what we would have been looking at if we played the game last year and this year, like carlton has done previosuly, even the bulldogs in 03' and 04' had PP's in the top 6....Now Melb are reaping the benefits of bottoming out, they are taking the grit between the teeth understanding where their list is at and are maximising to the hilt whats on offer from the AFL...

Need Freo to beat Essendon at Subi next week to jump over us on the ladder, if this happens we should get pic 3 as i cant see us beating Hawthorn....

I'd rather win for the rest of the year and miss out on all the quality players to maintain this winning culture!!! ::)

Here we go again. As if Pick 2 or 3 versus pick 4 is suddenly going to turn us in to premiership contenders. Get a grip people.

no one is saying that but we do need talent coming through the door and yes it will help as the top 3 seem to be ahead of everyone else, a top 3 pic would net us morabito or trengove depending whether Melb pic 2 mids in scully and trengove leaving Morabito for the 3rd pic, well this weekend will tell the tale essendon play freo at Subi lets see how freo go about it at home, if they lose they will get pic 3, if they win we will get pic 3....We wont beat the hawks!

Yes people are saying that. They say it every year. Almost every year we get bottom dweller picks and nothing improves. Great we'll get a morabito or trengove, and I wont be bemoaning that but based on previous 5 drafts, a Pick 7 would have got you Rich, Palmer, Joel Selwood, Ryder, Lewis.

Please tell me its not just about the pick number but there's a certain amount of skill in picking the best players, not just whats an obvious pick at 1 or 2?

When Melbourne leaves us for dead and shoots up the ladder whilst we continue to wallow near the bottom, what I will want to know is what the excuses of the anti-tankers will be? How will they explain it? Their wonderful winning culture maybe or simply some astute selections at the draft table (the number and position of those picks would of course be totally irrelevant). Carlton after years of being pointed at and ridiculed as club going nowhere in this forum, a club fostering a deafest culture, has on the back of those picks a chance to finish in the top four this year. Tell me that their bottoming out and priority picks have nothing to do with it? And of course there is Hawthorn and St Kilda.

To me this is one of the most depressing moments in Richmond history, we have the worst or near worst list in the competition, the draft is about to be torn apart for a number of years, and Melbourne whose list bristles with promise compared to ours is about to be given picks one and two (when we're the ones that really need them). Arguing with anti-tankers is like arguing with climate change sceptics or consipiracy theorists about 9/11 - any explanation except the most obvious one ie 'believe me not your lying eyes'. Again I'm sure their revisionism as to why Melbourne became finals contenders and we didn't will amuse for years to come.
