The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

I think Hardwick as senior coach with mentoring/guidance from Sheedy would be worth considering. A mixture of both young & old, both have been successful as players & coaches and have considerable experiences to draw upon. Would be a good balance.
Have read that those two don't get on too well. Not sure how true that is though.

Alot of people are warming to Jade Rawlings.

Who? Whats changed? Absolutely no way in the world! If he is appointed amongst the current field we are a complete and utter basket case!

Would be keen to hear views on whether it would make sense to go for a lesser known head coach (who we obviously will pay less) and put the savings into player development which has sorely been lacking in recent years...
Pretty sure this is the way we'll be going.
Grow the list and coach together as Dawkthorn did with Clarko, while we paid Plough top dollar for not much.

And how much will Buckley cost?

Liam Pickering was speculating on SEN Friday that he could probably expect $500k plus bonuses at the Kangas, and given Burns is on $300k at the WCE, around $400k at the Pies.

This is just his gut feel though.

That seems around the mark

sorry Rosy my previous heading was inappropriate :p

*Do you get the impression Mitch "Tickets" Morton looks at himself in the mirror for hours on end each morning ?

*Anyone notice the difference in Jade's coaching yet ? Players are beginning to play for their coach...and the players appear to be enjoying their footy again...classic examples are Deledio, Newman, Edwards, Thursfield, Jack amongst others.

*Great call by Rawlings to drop Tuck...even though Tucky gets alot of the ball...geez he hurts us turning it over at crunch moments !

*I'm thinking Rawlings could be the man to keep at the helm...I don't want a Buckley, a Malthouse or a Hardwicke starting from scratch with us...Jade has a headstart on them...not frightened to drop the "villians" of our woeful performances...plus we don't get the "circus" the media put on if were to get a big name coach...sick to death of it...love the body language of our players since Jade has taken over.

I dont know if anyone else has a caught a glimpse of Jades press conference after the game??....but geez this guy is becoming more and more impressive. He is honest, straight down the line, no BS like wallace, no spin doctoring.....just seems a really terrific candidate for the position. I originally wasnt a fan...however this has certainly changed over the past few weeks.

I know all the hype surrounding Buckley, but i tell ya what - im liking what Jade is doing and i certainly feel the players are as one behind him.

GO watch the interview...makes some really good honest points about some players and the team and its setup - great stuff Jade.

Our midfield didn't seem to turn the ball over today as much as it seems to with Tuck in it. I guess our other players just had to work harder to get their own ball and when they did, they used it better than Tuck does.

Absolutely agree. It certainly looks as if the players are playing for the coach and each other unlike earlier this year.

Just proves how disposable Tuck actually is. We come up against quality opposition and it just seemed like he was no loss whatsoever. It might be difficult for him to slip back into a midfield rotation of Deledio, Cousins, Cotchin and Tambling. IMO I'd check his trade value in October, I'd take a 3rd round pick.

Re: sorry Rosy my previous heading was inappropriate :p

wait till we play a big hulking midfield and see if we still think we dont need him

Could not agree more. I dont want to get on the bandwagon to early, however, Jay will be the man if, as expected, we cannot snare Buckley.

Jade will be great in 2-3 years time as a coach however nothing has changed IMO. We need someone from outside the club with a fresh outlook but also has the experience behind him to take on such a hard task. Step forward Damien Hardwick.

The knock on him I've always had is his form for Coburg BUT Knights coaching stint at Bendigo was probably worse. Its a difficult choice Jade's coaching seems more meat and potatoes rather than innovative which may be what we need but would we advance? I'd love to see us with a coaching structure resembling Geelong's. I just hope we keep Jade if he isn't picked. Maybe bring him back as an Assistant Coach to the senior side.

I hope Jade the Blade gets the gig just listened to his presser he is really passionate about this club & speaks well doesn't take crap told Lids if he doesn't lift his game he would be wearing a Coburg jumper that is the type of coach we need someone who doesn't play favorites & gives games on merit!!
