The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

I find the final presentation to the board a bit strange.

We have had four candidates complete extensive 3-4 hour interviews with the coaching selection panel. Obviously very thorough. Two will be selected to present to the board, although presumably the coaching selection panel will make a recommendation.

Although the board will make the final selection, should it really be any more than an endorsement of the coaching selection panel's preferred choice?

After all, the coaching selection panel are presumably the experts in this regard, and although I'm sure all the board are all competent and prominent within their personal endeavours, they aren't (for the most part) coaching or football experts.

Could/should the board select someone different to who is recommended?

Which prompts the question - why are the final two making presentations?

March was on a radio a week or so ago and stated that the sub-committee will hold greater sway on who gets the job, since they are the ones who have sat with them over this exhaustive process.

The presentation to the Board would be like attending an Open Day at Uni. Just a meet and greet for both parties. Ultimately the coaching sub-committee will make the final decision.

Thanks Smokin'. It's kind of what I figured, and am glad that it isn't primarily a board decision. I guess having a second person present gives them a fall back position, but does seem to be a bit of a waste of the applicants time. Perhaps if the recommendation satisfies the board, then the second applicant's presentation will be cancelled.

So basically a *smile*-up: drinking warm cans, playing drinking games, throwing up on yourself and waking up under a bush in the gardens several hours later? ;D

Agree otherwise the whole process would be pointless if the board are not going to take onboard the recommendations of the sub committee. Might as well have just done a presentation to the board and made a choice from there.

The board members with a football role have been involved in the process pretty much anyway.

its the only part of the process i do not like because it does seem to be a waste of time. this presentation to the board will not be as formal as the last round of interviews so it should not sway the sub committee's thoughts unless the 2 coaches have different 'ways' of re building the club and the sub committee wants the boards thoughts on which way to go.

wouldn't suprise me if just the seleted candidate and the sub committee presents to the board.

Its one of our most senior appointments, so ultimately the board must have ownership of the decision.

Denham said today they two candidates will speak to the board, THEN the sub-committee will come in and give their feedback and votes on the two men (with their subsequent recommendation).

After that, we will have a decision.

Personally I am happy with it. Consider the final board presentations like meeting your girlfriends Dad for the first time. Sure, your daughter has done proper due dilligence and selected a candidate for boyfriend that she thinks is best. As her Dad however, you reserve the right to boot his ass out the door if he is a complete tool (even though you will most likely just accept her choice).

I am loving the speculation. No one has any *smile* idea.

Feels like Christmas morning.

Just hope we don't end up with socks and undies.:laughsanta

Socks and Undies would be an improvement on Wallace ;D

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see the forgotten man, Richardson, get the gig.

On AFL Teams last night at the end of the segment BT said the same thing.

So essentially, now that the interviews are concluded, for the first time the sub-committee/club know who the next coach will likely be.

For the first time, rumours from here on in will have some weight! What was that the Boss said this morning about Hardwick...

He said Hardwick MIGHT be just ahead

I reckon the sub-committee have a lot of thinking to do now, and given how close things are, it could go anyway.

be interesting to see who makes the next cull though

Fancy standing out in the cold for four hours, big live cross, and he had absolutely nothing to add......funny.......as....

Just shows how ridiculous Hutchy's become. Might have been a time when Hutchy would be given info. Today he's avoided like the plague.

I hope Richardson does get it...that would conclusively prove the club has utterly ignored media and supporter pressures, and is doing things far more professionally than it has done for a long time.

I assume August 25 is the day we wait for.

Everybody keep your eyes open at Hardwick tomorrow night at the G.

He might be gawking at our huddle instead of concentating on his players.

Hopefully they used some method of scoring the applicants with weightings given to various factors.

Rawlings may get it then under that criteria.

Are things actually close?

If I were on the board/sub-committee, and was asked by Hutchinson or Denham how things are going, I'm sure the party line would be: "It's very close", "Too close to call", "All excellent candidates" etc, etc, even if there was a clear favourite.

It gives the committee/board breathing space should not everything go to plan (e.g., the favourite stays at Geelong, or decides to go to Port), and provides all candidates with credibility.

Although I suspect they are all great candidates, I hope there is one clear best-fit for Tigerland.
