The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

Reflecting over the synergies of the Senior Coach (SC) / Director of Coaching (DOC)combination, I can see the following possibilities.

If Richardson is chosen as SC (with his perceived forte on the strategic side), then someone like Dean Laidley (with a perceived tactical forte) might be a good DOC balance.

If Hardwick is chosen as SC (with his perceived all round forte, but with an emphasis on the tactical), then Sheeds (perceived strategic) may be a good DOC match.

Don't know enough about Hinkley, except about the concern over him moving out of his comfort zone in Geelong.

Although, I am only guessing, and have no info re the real relationships these guys have with each other. For all I know, Hardwick may not now get on with Sheeds, nor Richardson with Laidley.

Just guessing, I suppose!

Personally, I'd like to ask a double barrelled question to sort them out.

A. Please relate to me what you've identied in Morton's goal-kicking technique?
B. How would you correct it?

We complain about poor kicking.
Let's see if we can find a SC who can identify & correct it.

I'm sure you all have other questions you'd like to ask the applicants.

That could be the start of a separate thread.

What would you ask the applicants?

Kidding yourself moments. If Jack is such a dud, then no team would offer a top 8 pick for him.

And any player we would get offered for him would in NO way compensate us for the loss of Jack. Our forward line is already incredibly dysfunctional...and you want to throw away the only real shining light we have of the tall forward variety?
Not at all Skybeau. Name me one successful forward in the past 20 years who was slow off the mark. It is part of the reason why our forward line has been so dysfunctional. He is young but not too many 20 year olds get quicker. Hope I'm proven wrong but I don't think so and hence my willingness to trade,- if the price is right. Higgins, Luenberger d/p 8, yep.

I'd ask the applicants about their tactics, skill development and game plans (must be a plural!!)

As for your suggestion on kicking, I think it's best to assess a sample of bad kickers in our team rather than one.

What's the difference between strategy and tactics. I thought they meant the same thing

He's not slow off the mark. Has had plenty of lead and marks. Has some learning still to do but has overall been a shining light amongst all the gloom this year.

I'd ask them bout their mowing skills

The most important strength we need in our new coach is the ability to

1. Develop a game plan and structure that players have confidence in

2. Be a good communicator and teacher and drive young players to produce their best. This I think has been our downfall under Wallace. Kids just have not improved and as such have lost confidence and their progress has halted.

3. Be aware of player's strengths and where they best fit in to the team stucture and game plan and play them in the best position

4. Have a good support crew of assistants and fitness guys.

I lean towards Richardson but would also b happy with Hinkley.

A little worried about Hardwick.....why four processes and four knockbacks.??

just found out scotty chose the roos over us thats why he was eliminated
He said they had bettnfer young players and could improve
While ours were already at there best
And he wants to be an educational coach he thought he could teach the roos more

Don't believe that for a second!

If this is true, I start to wonder exactly what 'process' we are using.

What he wants to do is exactly what we need, but if he thinks our players have reached their peak, then Scott IS an idiot.

I just hope we're not forcing some conditions on these candidates.

Re: The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Threadn

neither do i im sure our young boys r just as talented
Do u think brayshaw gave away the faults in hardwick when he said scott was
Young
Driven
Talented
And a leader of men
I wonder if this is dimmas weekness

i dont think we need a coach that can identify and correct kicking flaws..... thats a role for a skills coach
we need a coach that can plan and prepare a team for the future, a season and a match, and develop the group over all
add to that a guy that spends time on skills, a couple for each type (ie) kicking, rucking etc
a guy on fitness
a guy on strength
mid, back and fwd coaches
a development guy to work with kids
and an allrounder that can run some sessions and be a dogs body or sgt major whilst the core group meet

As players, Hardwick and Scott were virtually the same. As assistant coaches, I'm sure Hardwick's got better experience of good and bad times with 2 clubs.

Scooty - please re-read the news article you pulled this from - the journo made the connection - Scott did not say that.

Sure this process isn't being headed by Agent 86...

Max: You might as well give up, Danker. This building is surrounded by 40 CONTROL agents!
(Danker shoots at him)
Max: Would you believe 30?
(Danker shoots at him)
Max: One angry Boy Scout?
(Danker shoots at him)
Max: Girl Scout?

Interesting to hear Scott on SEN just before... he thanked Alan Richardson for his work with the devleopment program he started at Collingwood.

Would not count Richo out yet...

Just on Richo, from what I have heard he didnt want to leave the Tigers, Wallace wanted him out when he first started.

Ringing endorsement for Richardson there.

Perceived him as a serious threat obviously.

Thats why he hang on to his side kick in Royal for so long, knew he was not going to steal his job. ;D
