The Official "RFC Coaching Position" Discussion Thread

Sheedy part of succession plan!

The club needs a strong figurehead at the moment and Sheedy fits that bill.
We need to steady the ship and really start behaving like a professional club whilst looking to the future.

Sheedy would be ideal on a two year term while he mentors the next head coach. He has had some
ex-assistants that have become fairly decent senior and assistant coaches, i.e. Thompson, N Daniher, M Williams, O'Donnell, Harvey, Knights (to an extent)

This makes senses to me - Sheedy is the man for the moment and for the future success of the Mighty Tiges!

Interesting little titbit tonight on On The Couch - Mike was setting up a pump up the Dees segment based on their win over Freo [does any other journo jump on and off causes as shamelessly as this bloke?] and said "If you were a coach who had to choose between The Dees, North and Richmond who would you choose" - the inference being all 3 would nominate the Dees as the obvious choice.

Hirdy said Richmond quick as a flash to Mike's obvious surprise.

Now I know most would agree with Mike's assessment but it was an interesting call by Hird. Certainly is his own man -and a pretty interesting media performer.

If you really want to make your mark as a coach, and not be to concerned about longevity in the game, you'd have to say Richmond.

The chance to achieve immortal status in the coaching fraternity by turning the clubs fortunes around is an enticing prospect, if not a fatalistic one.

Hird's got balls, that's why.

Sheahan's the biggest bandwagoner I've ever seen or heard or read in the football world. If Melbourne lose next game by 100 points with a poor effort, he'll return to saying they're hopeless and have no future. Just like he said about us tonight.

It has probably been posted before, but the Roos decision to appont Scott smacks of a risk management approach to me.

The Roos could not be seen to have missed out on another preferred candidate after Buckley and Longmire. Whether they sounded Hardwick out or not I am not sure, but in appointing Scott, they have certainly chosen a path they knew they would be safe.

The Roos have played this coaching appointment thing very badly IMO. They boxed themselves into a corner twice. Buckley turned them down despite the money being offered, and they couldn't afford to risk making a public offer to Hardwick. And they lost out on Longmire big time.

I wonder if they wish they had done it all differently, and maybe included Richardson and Hinkley in their list of potential coaches. And, instead of just jumping in, had held their nerve a little and gone down the process path.

Saw him have a shot at us tonight, guess he is still annoyed about Benny not giving him the scoop about joining the club.

Yeah - He does it so routinely it's hard to understand how anyone would value his opinion.

There's actually been numerous times he's pumped up our prospects over the past year. He's got the long range forecasting ability of a goldfish.

BT just said he thinks Roos will go with Brad Scott
Brian Taylor?

Wouldn't know his head from his ass that bloke.

If that is true about Gale then this club is finished. If Gale doesn't believe that there is a culture issue at the RFC club and he has just become our CEO, he might as well appoint Capmbell as senior coach, and recruit Daffy and Tivendale back as his assistants. I don't want Jade the blade to get the gig but his statement about the culture at the RFC and its players was spot on.

God help us. :'(

agree. AA 101: we need to admit we have a problem before we can do something about it

I believe other things need to be kept in house like March coming out and stating that Richo will play on next year when we haven't even appointed a coach yet. That is just plain stupidity. They are basically keeping a player on regardless of the new coaches decision on Richo.

well it's not confirmed yet, and we know the coach doesn't make the final call on list management, but it's a joke if richo is signed before the coach is appointed

is that you KB? instead of rewinding back a couple months, lets move forward. it's over mate.

Did I hear correctly that our interviews are now finished? Pretty sure that she said that Hinkley met with the club tonight.

Yep she did say that Hinkley had his interview tonight which is the final interview. Maybe an announcement in the next few days she said.

Good. No need to wait 10 days after the last interview.

Did March say anything about 10 days from last interview? I thought when ask on Saturday he said a decision would be made in 10 days.

No not really.

I stand by it, he has no idea of anything does Brian Taylor.

A calculated guess was all it was.

He is a damn fool and thinks he is better than every other man on this planet. His head from his arse is hard tom tell apart too mind you!

they now have to schedule the board presentation, and you would imagine the coaching sub committee need to assess the data before doing this.

March's 10 day indication looks pretty good IMO
